This is the game we all had circled on the calender when the schedule came out.
No matter what the records we knew it was going to be a matchup up of a ton of ex-pens.

(Heward and Koci are actually former Penguins prospects and never played with the NHL team. We just wanted to make this list as long as possible.)
In a perfect world Orpik will destroy Mark Recchi at center ice.
Ryan Malone will most likely get booed, or not. There be some big post about it somewhere.
We could care less.
He has 13 points, So does Kris Letang.
What a disaster.

There's a difference between "jumping off the bridge" and being angry and frustrated that the Pens have played like crap throughout pretty much the whole of December. Now obviously they've had some injuries but that's not really an excuse for getting tremendously outplayed every other game, not being able to forecheck effectively, not getting enough shots or shots on goal.
Now I don't advocate firing Therrien, but I'm still upset over this atrocious game, getting shut out at home against the worst team in the league with 14 shots. That just does not happen to good teams, and it's been happening way too consistently over the past month.
I just wish I could even make a suggestion as to a fix, but other than stuff like work harder, don't pass up on shots so much, just get the damn puck on the net more consistently, dump it in and actually chase the puck down more, I don't really have anything to add.
Zigomanis is key.... i wonder what our faceoff % has been without him.

thank you for saying what i've been trying and failing to for months. i cant stand everyone who leaves any criticism in a post getting attacked with all this "trade malkin, sell the team" shit. any good penguin fan who isn't infuriated by games like tonight and saturday must not really care about this team that much. it's great to be a positive person but there's nothing wrong with being angry after a game like this.

Here's my thing...I'm not some kind of stoosh-like great hockey mind, so I can't advocate any trades or firing and I don't have any answers n'at, so all I can do is say my piece:
The economy is in the shitter and falling fast, and if you people aren't laid off yet, you know some people who are, and even more that have had their retirement funds totally raped, and the way I see it, the FANS are the ones footing the bill for these EXTREMELY well paid guys to play a game to the best of their ability for our entertainment. If you guys went to work half-assing every day like this, or saving it up for the end of the week, how long would YOU last? Who would be YOUR advocate and make excuses for your being a shitty employee? Hockey is a business and these people are not your friends. You don't have their cell numbers in your phone and you ain't on their speed dial. (To paraphrase some great minds)
These guys aren't getting it done and there needs to be an accounting by whomever. The Penguins performance OF LATE is unacceptable. Is it okay with you?

I still don't buy into the 'SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE' mentality. The team can win with the personnel they have.
Yeah having a premier winger would absolutely be helpful (a Kovalchuk or Hossa would have buried the two shots that Syko whiffed on). But without completely sacrificing the future because of some mediocrity today, there isn't a move that makes sense.
Sometimes teams play like this. It happens in all sports. That same team can snap out of it and go on a tear. Part of sports is weathering the storm. It's frustrating to watch a performance like the one tonight. But it's not the end of the world.
The Pens are talented. The coaching is solid. The wins will come. Remember November?

Who exactly here is even panicking? I'm not panicking. While I am worried that this bad stretch will continue indefinitely, that's more of my personal pessimistic attitude, whereas my logical self can see that through the last two seasons the Pens have played stellar in the second half and can very well do that again.
But it's natural for any good fan of a team to be angry/frustrated/depressed/whatever after a bad stretch and a particularly tough game like this one was. Nobody wants to see this team, especially this team, get shut out on any night, so there is going to be at least some bitching about it.
That said, I'll be at the game on saturday, rotting for them in my usual spot, and I think I'll take my camera and get a pics while I'm at it.

The Lightning are such a crappy team that it shouldn't have come down to "lucky bounces." The Pens should have put the Lightning on their ass and FAST, then stepped on their necks.
I'm not advocating firing Therrien, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he starts talking to the players. SOMETHING needs to be done, and I hope he's the type to do it. Whether that's chewing out a few people or what, I don't know - I hope he does.
I'm furious - this was a crap game against a crap team and Therrien's talking in his post-game press conference that players are complaining, whining, lack a work ethic...
It's sickening. The only thing worse than sucking has to be sucking when you have this much talent on the team.

It wasn't lack of effort, they just didn't finish.
I'm not saying they played a perfect A+ game, but cool it. Its 1 game. Shit like this happens, every shot you take goes an inch wide, an inch high, so on. Other games, every shot you go finds a hole for a goal. It just happens.
And to be clear (since in re-reading my comment I may not have been), Therrien should be fine. The Pens are a good team, but these kinds of periods of poor play need to be nipped in the bud and quick lest they become a habit.
Here's to hoping the Pens get a little Herb Brooks "again" type treatment or something - anything - soon to right this listing ship.

As disappointed as I am in them getting outshot every night, what concerns me the most is how opposing teams can set of a lawn chair behind and in front of the net and nobody would notice.

That was part of my point. For some reason, and this has gone on longer than this one game, the Pens have been just missing net a damn lot, at least more noticeably than in the past. That's something they definitely need to work on. Gotta get the puck on net if you shoot, force the goalie to make the save.
Sure, the puck not bouncing right can lead to a missed net, but so often they'll just completely miss the net on shots, mainly from some of their wingers and their less offensively gifted defencemen.
This is at least something that can tangibly be worked on though, unlike "just having the bounces not go though way". I really don't like that as an excuse.
I can't wait to see how they break the Devils trap on Friday!!
One more thing. Whats all this "we lost to the worse team in the league" bullshit.
Tampa might be the joke of the league, but they are in 14th place in the conference, not 15th.

Ugh... this has to be the most frustrating and infuriating game I remember in a long time.
I'm not for any personnel changes yet, but they seriously need something to jumpstart themselves out of this slump they've been in. I don't know if it's getting our injured players back or what, but SOMETHING needs to happen soon.
I'm guessing they were overconfident going into this game to begin with - they seemed rather lackluster most of the time. I think MAF played extremely well, but our offense was probably only playing around 75%. And I hate to sound like one of those godawful homer fans, but it seemed like we didn't get any breaks - whether it was the retarded missed calls, bad bounces, missed shots, or whatever.
Whatever. Let's hope Therrien does something to light a fire under them - maybe doing some Herbies until 1am would work...
In any case, let's kill the Devils on Friday.

PS, upon review, I seem to be just stating the obvious, or reiterating what people have already said. Sorry bout that. I gotta vent to someone.
And btw, I hope the Festivus was a tremendous success and everyone had incredible amounts of fun, despite the trainwreck we saw tonight. One of these days I'll have to make the trip out there for a meetup and game or two... If you guys do this again next year, I'm definitely going. :)

TB was tied for last in the NHL with the Islanders until they beat us tonight. Besides, they racked up most of their 23 prior points against the likes of the Southeast, while the Isles have been taking it in the ass from the Rags, Pens, Devils and Flyers.

For those still claiming "it's one game," I'll remind you that there have been more than plenty of these "one games" so far this season. After about 10 of them not even halfway through the season, the "it's just one game" line gets old. Here's a new one: "They really sucked ass tonight." Try it.
I could accept losses when it really is just some unlucky bounces. But missing the net is NOT and excuse. Remember back in high school or college when our coaches would make us do 10 pushups on the ice every time we missed the net in practice? I make my high school kids do the same thing if they miss in practice. Because you can't score if you can't hit the net.
A lot of it has to do with the over-pretty play the Pens try. Look, I understand when Crosby and Malkin make ridiculous plays. They're Sid and Geno. But Jordan Staal is not Crosby. Maxime Talbot is not that Malkin. Ruslan Fedotenko is not Buries It, and Miro Satan is not Alexei Kovalev. You don't beat San Jose with 14 shots on goal, and fuck, you can't even beat Pittsburgh Reject South with it either.
And no, Marian Gaborik and his glass skeletomuscular system isn't the answer. You know who is? That sargeant from Mail Call. Bluto Blutowski. Hacksaw. Donovan McNabb's momma with the Chunky Soup. It's about who wants to win right now. And frankly, it looks like the Pens--for the most part--almost don't care. It's as if they're saying on the bench after two periods, "Hey, it's only one game."
Well fuck the "one game" shit. It's another game in the shitter. And as someone who drops hundreds of dollars to go see these assholes play, I deserve to expect more.
