Bah! Now a gameday...

Docciavelli said...

Already 1-0 by Gameday Post time. I like it.

Matt said...

I knew I had a good reason to be excited by the third line! WOOOOOOOOO

Rba said...

WOOOOO FREE COOKIES!

meecrofilm said...

Wall-e's first NHL point! Solid.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Bad news, stuck watching the Trashers feed.

Good news, it's a great quality feed.

Docciavelli said...

Ah, the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Fun place. Just don't show up in Brett Favre's hometown unless you're white.

Allison said...

@rba-
yea, they are homemade chocolate chip.

ok, they're break and bake.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Are there more than 20 fans in the arena tonight?

Matt said...

For those of you not watching FSN Pittsburgh, they were just talking about how Wallace watched a bear eat a baby moose while playing golf. Unreal...

Rba said...

break and bake != homemade, however its still good enough.

was i correct in hearing during pregame that Zigo was hurt? something like an upper body injury or personal reasons? or am i just blowing smoke.

Rba said...

GENO!

Docciavelli said...

Is it just me, or does Horatio come us with the "Keys to the Game?"

"Mike Yeo can't coach a power play unit to above a 15%? Isn't that...special."

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAHH!

Docciavelli said...

And on cue. GENO FOR #2.

Matt said...

Atlantaattendanceblog: I've seen more Penguins jerseys than Thrashers jerseys in the crowd thus far. Gotta love the Southeast division

TheNWChica said...

Timbits for the win!

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Doing this well early on can only mean a third period collapse.

Rba said...

Matt - Atlanta attendance is always terrible, the night i went (vs Hurricanes few fridays ago) there werent but 3-4k asses in the seats.

I wore OV jersey and got boo'ed immediatley entering (My friend stole my Crosby jersey during the ride up so he wore it, and i didnt want to go to a game not repping a jersey, so i wore an OV jersey, dont sue me for fan treason, he stole it :/)

Docciavelli said...

@PensEx

I'd have that feeling if MAF weren't back in net. Right now, I feel like he's the door-shutter we've been lacking. I know, I know...the Pens were having collapses before he went out. But it's a new start for him.

Eric P. said...

Late gameday post..

must have been stuck in triple OT or somethin

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Docciavellim you're right.

MAF is awesome.
Sabu never would have made that glove save.

Docciavelli said...

@Rba

If I was going to a political rally, I wouldn't wear a Bush/Cheney sticker just because someone stole my Obama sticker.

You're better off just wearing an argyle sweater or something. =]

Docciavelli said...

@pensex

Yeah, and if you ask FH, Sabu couldn't stop a blueline flip-in either. But he does a decent job for a backup.

Speaking of backups, isn't Conklin starting for Joketown against the Sharks tonight?

Rba said...

Haha, if anything i wore my OV jersey because it's Atlanta, and they hate the Caps, i wanted to see the recation, and to pick a few fights (Alcohol was not a factor). it's fun to gauge reactions. Shame nobody wanted to say anything else besides the few boos i got coming in.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

I think Osterrible is injured, so Conklin is in.

I hope Conklin plays the Winter Classic. It would be his third outdoor game.

Docciavelli said...

Your OV jersey reaction is the same reaction I'd get a few years back wearing a Pens jersey to a Caps game. A few people would give me a lukewarm boo, but nobody would say much because the Caps were trash.

Now the Caps fans are bold--they'll always go with the "Crosby sucks." I guess they feel with a playoff season behind them, they can try to act like Philly.

dying alive said...

I don't care how washed up Sundin is; anyone who tells the Rangers to go fuck themselves is aces in my book.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a statement more than I agree with this one.

MAF looking really solid so far.

Docciavelli said...

Enstrom looks as big as some of the 6-year-olds I coach.

Dr. Turkleton said...

DA said:

Plus I've been around tPB since dinosaurs walked the earth and I have yet to meet a single cblogger.

Where are you at in D23?...how far behind coffeytalk?...I'll be over on the 20th or 23rd to give you the honor of meeting me and buying me a beverage.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

dying alive said...

The music and announcer in that building sound SO LOUD.

Docciavelli said...

Something tells me part of the Sundin decision was that he wanted to play in Canada.

Wait, did the Atlanta color man call him "Ondrej the Giant?" Classic.

Matt said...

Docci, reminds me of a joke:

What's the only difference between Philly and DC?

dying alive said...

Where are you at in D23?...how far behind coffeytalk?...I'll be over on the 20th or 23rd to give you the honor of meeting me and buying me a beverage.

Like, literally two rows back and a couple of seats over. Shamefully, we've exchanged waves but never talked to one another. I don't get up much during the intermissions because I have kind of a phobic reaction to big crowds of people(literally) but for cbloggers I make exceptions.

Rba said...

free candy anyone? shit atl goal, but nice ruckus, crosby and valabak? oh shit.

Docciavelli said...

How about some Free Candy with your goal? And Sid beating on Hlavac?

What did these guys eat today?

dying alive said...

Holy shit, did their horn get stuck or do they just not get the chance to blow it very often? That was ridic.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

What happened that pissed off Sid so much?

Allison said...

Letang and Crosby double teaming on thata dude... IM DYING!

Docciavelli said...

Crosby just punched Valabik in the nuts. Classic!

dying alive said...

I still get sick every time I see Colby in that gross blue jersey. :(

G-Lyn said...

What a fight.

Sid was pissed!

Rba said...

crosby in the box 2 mins for nutcracking?

Docciavelli said...

What nobody on the Atlanta feed will talk about is the interference in front of goal where Reasoner knocks the stick out of Orpik's hand. No discussion. Nice, assholes. That's what ticked Candy off.

Ormiss said...

Am I the only one who saw the Atlanta player (not sure who it was) fly by Orpik and just sending Orpik's into the air?

Did I dream that?

Allison said...

glad to see candy policing the game for himself now. I guess he learned this is more efficient than telling the re about it.

and i think that i could watch that scrum at the net over and over and over... i cannot wait for it to be on youtube, because i will sit mesmorized.

Ormiss said...

Gary Bettman wants the Thrashers to win!

Oh, sorry, I thought I was from Detroit for a second. Whew, that really hurt there until I remembered that I'm not.

Docciavelli said...

@ormiss

See my earlier comment. Apparently nobody in Atlanta picked up on it.

I'll be honest, someone does that to me in front of the net, and I'll give them the Free Candy treatment as well. It's not out of line when someone pulls that kind of shit.

Rba said...

I saw it too, so did the millions (ANDDDD MILLLLIONNNSSSS) of Penguin Nation, but the four people who count didn't see it. Whatev, Cheapgoalblog. We're still up by 1.

Docciavelli said...

Dear Marty Reasoner: It is okay to look at the intervewer's breasts during the segment. You do not have to stare into space.

Ormiss said...

Kovalchuk. Wow. So much for his sportsmanship.

Allison said...

holy shit, could that chick get any closer to Reasoner? (not wasting my time to look up spelling on that)

Docciavelli said...

Yeah. "Sportsmanship." That's what I thought too. How about "dickishness?"

Even with that, he's still not a bead-necklace douche like Mike Richards.

Team Canada said...

Ha ha Rba - two minutes for nutcracking. Awesome.

That entire sequence of events blew my freakin' mind.

Allison said...

@doccia- haha, how weird did he look... strangest interview ive ever seen. I now have a new deffinition of "blank stare"

Dr. Turkleton said...

DA...

I hear ya with the whole 'crowds' thingy. I usually just stay in my seat or at least stand up to stretch my legs...but, it's like pulling teeth trying to get past peeps to exit out of my row [sitting in the middle IS an advantage that you don't have to get up for peeps...unless you have that knucklehead who's lost and walks thru your entire row to get to the next section!] and then it's bumper to bumper traffic out in the phone booth disguised as a corridor/walkway.

[But...it's OUR Barn, and I'm gonna miss her when she's gone]

Rba said...

I could've made a holiday season joke, but hey i figured i get a few laughs with Nutcracking, i wonder what the referee hand signal would be for that? Punching yourself in the nuts?

Also Kovy has never had the sportmanship, but he's never had anyone to mentor him in Atlanta, he needs that veteran type to mentor him, and a change of scenery, he really needs to get out of Atlanta

meecrofilm said...

Kovaljoke almost scored a goal there at the end when he was actually trying.

Talk about the definition of floating. He's floating more than Ovechkin. At least AO tries in the offensive zone.

Kovalchuk looks like he's playing for a trade. 90 % coasting with 10% effort right now. Meh.

Ormiss said...

I'm just waiting for the announcers to do a replay saying, "Here's the great play by Kovalchuk knocking the stick away from Orpik while Atlanta keeps the puck on the outside. That's why he's one of the best."

akus said...

I just happen to catch a split second of "A Great Day for Hockey". Did they "add" Sykora's hattie in the footage??

I seen someone jumping/group hug, like Sykora did when he had the HT.

just askin!

{Let it Snow}

Rba said...

Ormiss, i dont think youll get that from Dellacamera (who's actually one of the best announcers on colour, he does the soccer games as well, everyone whos heard him says hes a great color commentator, and puts you there), you might get it from Darren, he's a hom(o)(er)

Ormiss said...

@Rba

*nods*

No wonder if they're too embarrassed to even show the footage again. They sure cut the video down to size on the highlights reel just now. :p

Team Canada said...

Ok I know everybody is over this by now, but seriously seeing Crosby punch Valabik in the back of the ballsac was the best part of my day... it was a bad day but still.. I'm still laughing. Thank you Sidney!

Allison said...

haha who was that "go Gino, go go"

dying alive said...

Nice hit from behind there on Sid, followed by a make-up call.

How much do Steiggy and Errey love saying the name Crabb? They've said it at least 5,729 times.

Matt said...

Wow that Crosby jersey guy looked like he was going to murder someone.

A lot of hitting from behind being allowed nowadays? Clearly Charlie's been reffing.

Rba said...

GO GENO GO GO!

dying alive said...

I <3 Geno.

kstewy16 said...

Geno is a fucking beast.

FINALLY someone in front for a PP.

Docciavelli said...

KA-CHUNG!

I still say fuck Mike Yeo. Staal needs to stay in front like Dino Cicarrelli from now on.

Matt said...

I have a riddle:

If a PK is only 72% efficient, and no one's around to watch it, does it still suck? Thrasher koan.

kstewy16 said...

Malkin hatrick???????

Docciavelli said...

Thanks for another freebie, Colby.

That was just careless shit right there.

Matt said...

Not to be greedy, but it should be 4.

And is someone seriously booing Crosby in Atlanta? REALLY?

Docciavelli said...

Wait, did Malkin just step up on someone at the blueline?

Living at Sarge's house must rub off at some point...

Matt said...

Hail Satan!

Rba said...

What a DEVIL of a goal!

rebecca said...

HAIL SATAN

i love seeing fleury back.

Docciavelli said...

Hail Satan. Beautiful move.

Dr. Turkleton said...

anyone else get their Colby wedding invite in the mail yet?

cblog Wedding Crashersblog?

kstewy16 said...

OMG, That was seriously a beautiful goal. I almost feel bad for that goalie, he was just embarrassed.

Could we possibly see the Moose???

meecrofilm said...

Don't forget the nice assist by the illustrious Jeff Taffe.

kstewy16 said...

You mean point per game Jeff Taffe?

Rba said...

And i echo everyones thoughts alike. Tommy Glavine is still alive? Dayummmm.

meecrofilm said...

Eaton has been penalty city this season. He's gotta be more disciplined. Or just play better so he doesn't have to resort to that.

Matt said...

Atlanta PA Announcer = STUNNED.

kstewy16 said...

Boucher. Wow.

THE MOOOOOOOOOSSSSEEEE!!!!!!

Rba said...

Booooooooooooooooo. Wow nice, just what we needed from him. Now if only that was on the PP.

rebecca said...

beautiful.

dying alive said...

Aw man, I have a hard time rooting against Hedberg.

Rba said...

Shame, Moose is in, and the Pens are rolling. Ondrej is going back down to the AHL asap.

Just because I can.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE

kstewy16 said...

I love the Moose. He was one of the things I can remember best about being a kid watching the Pens.

Rba said...

Now that the games getting slightly out of hand, i bet you Valajoke is going to be headhunting Crosby. I hope not.

rebecca said...

memories flooding over me :(

Dr. Turkleton said...

Mark Eaton, you are the weakest link....Goodbye!

Rba said...

Cookie in the box, 2 minutes for high joking.

kstewy16 said...

Lets see Geno rape Kovaljoke for a breakaway SH hatrick.

kstewy16 said...

Did we just see a 3 defenseman PK? I swear I saw Boucher, Orpik, and Letang all out there.

Rba said...

It wasnt Tang it was Scoods. Nice PK, nice save too.

Kenji said...

MAF booyah

kstewy16 said...

When Satans hot, he's hot. He even scores on his own net almost.

kstewy16 said...

Told ya I saw three guys, it was Boucher, Brookse, Letang and Geno.

rebecca said...

with cblog, you're never aloneblog.

Rba said...

Wow i didnt know A.C. Slater played hockey, weird.

rebecca said...

with S&T it feels like FAMILY..ohohoho.

kstewy16 said...

Wow, Geno tried to kill that guy lol. He woulda knocked his ass out if he hit him lol.

Rba said...

God and Valabak, big matchup there, id take God though

rebecca said...

Empty C-blog.

kstewy16 said...

Yeah, all the gloom and doomers are outta here. They only come in when they have complaints.

Rba said...

Im fighting sleep to watch the third period haha. Showerblog is wonderful.

Matt said...

Not much to say...

Except there have been 2 "Year End Saleathon" commercials per break. Jesus Effin Christ.

akus said...

Toronto/Bruins 5-1 second period

Where's pops? He is MIA tonight. Must be the holidays.

rebecca said...

Picking the Pens game over studying. This is the most obvious and frequent choice.

Sharks are losing 0-3 to the Wangs as of now.

rebecca said...

aw fuck. I'm a latefag.

kstewy16 said...

Was Mike Yeo crying?

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Fleury "hasn't looked real sharp."
- Atlanta's colour commentator

Hip said...

I have to go to bed.
Go Pens.

Docciavelli said...

@rebecca

Me too. Studying for an estates & trusts law school final vs. watching the Pens beat on the hapless Trashers? Easy call. I've got all day tomorrow to study.

Rba said...

McFlurry with a beaut of a save. He's been on the game tonight, hasnt been tested too much though

Allison said...

@rebecca- sharks score makes me sad.
@rba- me fighting sleep too, got a serious case of tiredness

fleury has made me pregnant like 4 times already tonight

akus said...

What game is he watching PensEx??

kstewy16 said...

/sarcasm/
Throburn should have been Sids scoring winger. Ray Shero should be fired. /sarcasm/

rebecca said...

@Allison
yeah, me too. I watched the Sharks game last night which was 2 periods of nothing, a goal by each team and blue jackets win in OT. wow.

Rba said...

I hear ya Ally, but being sick doesnt help with the tiredness, get some sleep, and mail me some cookies.

Rba said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
kstewy16 said...

So whats the "crab" count so far this game? They must have said that word at least 100 times already.

Allison said...

wtf, common, let goddard ruin someones like, refs are never any fun

Rba said...

God and Colby BOTH got tossed. Shame, i wanted to see a God and Valajoke fight.

johnny said...

MAF not skipping a beat. He's shaken a lot of the rust off already.

The "MOOOOOOSE" chants are taking me back to drunken undergrad years.

Allison said...

well, goligoski, thats one way to defend

Allison said...

grrrr frozen feed

Rba said...

Yeah the night i went to the trashers game Moose started and the whole building (all 5k of us!) were screaming Mooooooose when he made a save. Philips is a great arena, if only asses were in seats and there was a product on the ice. Ho hum.

Docciavelli said...

looks like atdhe feed went down again. Wonderful.

Allison said...

@doc... i closed out and opened back up and it's back

Rba said...

Geno in the box for roughing right now.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

About two minutes after they called Fleury "not sharp" he made about three great saves and they cut to a Fleury highlight package.

Rba said...

SportSouth always does that with any player, call him trash one minute than praise him the next. Welcome to the south.

kstewy16 said...

Whats wrong with Dupuis? I didn't hear.

Allison said...

"canoodaling through the slot"

what?

Rba said...

Oh, btw, the second Geno goal got changed to a Jordy Staal goal FYI.

PenguinsExperience.com said...

The Penguins aren't playing that great.
I'd say this is a combination of bad Atlanta goaltending and a great job by Fleury more than anything else.

kstewy16 said...

Its so great to have Fleury back. No doubt in my mind this would be at least 5-4 right now, if not 5-5 if Sabou was in.
Its not Sabou hating, its Fleury love.

Rba said...

Can someone PLEASE get a shot of Ondrej on the bench stunned with STUNNED on the photo PLEASE PLEASE.

Rba said...

Colby against the Pens, ruh roh raggy. This better not happen again.

Kenji said...

at least it was colby

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Well, if they were going to score, I guess I'm glad it was Colby.

Docciavelli said...

That's an inexcusable giveaway. Someone needs to run a few regroup breakout drills tomorrow.

rebecca said...

@kstewy16
yeah, i was so excited to have fleury back in the net, :D needed some MAF back in there.

i want to see the steubenville commercial right now. atleast i can say thank god there is no more saved by zero.

dying alive said...

Aw, Colby, you done us wrong!

PenguinsExperience.com said...

Without Fleury this game is tied.

Not a great game by the Pens.

pops said...

im here. sorry. having a fucking terrible day. got an excessive speeding tick in maryland. hate my life

Docciavelli said...

Steuuuuuuubenville. The Burgh of the Burgh!

I don't even get FSN and I love that spot.

Allison said...

is it bad that i got excited when army scored?

ill go with "no" cause we're still up by 2 with 5 mins left

PenguinsExperience.com said...

It's almost like they feel they can make defensive mistakes since Fleury is in net.

akus said...

__________ ( insert Penguin player here) is out and won't return the rest of the game.

Dunno what happened to Dupris.

My guess, upper, or just maybe a lower body injury.

How long has Gill been out?
I can't even remember why he is out.

Docciavelli said...

Excessive speeding in Maryland? Why would you want to leave our state so fast Pops?

Lemme guess, it was on Rt. 70 heading west near Frederick after coming down the hill with the overpass at the top...

rebecca said...

@docciavelli
if i ever find that commercial on the internet, i will play it on loop for atleast two hours.

Rba said...

theres hills in maryland? only time ive been past it was pretty much nothing. except that joke of a town called baltimore.

Crosby tried twice to get Malkin that goal.

Awesome stuff, especially considering Malkin is ahead of Crosby for the scoring title.

kstewy16 said...

It wasn't pretty, but its a W.

Geno is on a 140 point pace. I'm so happy we got screwed over with the draft and got Malkin instead of OV.

Docciavelli,

Thanks for the tip, but i'm in Winchester right now. Might make my way down to Fairfax County in the next few days though. Buffalo Wild Wings, wherever they might be, tend to be a decent bet if you're trying to find a game. They gave me a bunch of shit and made fun of my sweater, but whatevz. Worth it.

Docciavelli said...

@jayness

Oh, that Northern Virginia.

Sorry--in the Baltimore/DC area, we think of No. Va. as Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax & the Dulles Corridor. Anything past Leesburg is pretty much considered lower West Virginia.

If you're in Fairfax, jump on the Vienna Metro and take it to Clarendon. There's a sports bar called Summers about a block away from the Metro stop, and I seem to remember them having Center Ice.

Stoosh said...

Thoughts, dudes...

1. I was at a friend's house watching the game tonight, so I wasn't watching quite as closely as I normally do. But did anyone get the impression that the Pens looked off tonight? I was listening to the post-game show with Grover on the way home and quite a few callers were suggesting that they thought the Pens played a bad game. I know they took some bad penalties, but 2-for-3 on the power play and five very solid goals doesn't seem like much of a bad game to me.

2. Boston is a machine. Then again, they were playing Toronto.

3. I know it's taboo to mention them, but that was a bit of a statement game by the Wings tonight. 6-0 over the Sharks? How many Babcock/McClellan,, "master schools the pupil" jokes will there be over at Abel To Yzerman?

4. For an old Canucks fan who had his sports fan's heart broken by Messier's Rangers in 1994, I love the subtle irony of the Vancouver Canucks sticking it to the Rangers and getting Sundin. Sundin might not be what he used to, but anything that keeps him away from the Rangers is good for me.

5. Dear Boris Valabik,

Nice to see that you are just as much of a joke of a hockey player now as you were when you played junior hockey in Kitchener. You still can't skate. You still can't shoot. You still handle a puck like it's a hand grenade with the pin pulled. And you're still a 6'7" version of Sean Avery on the ice; way to pick on all the smaller guys and then tuck your tail between your legs when the heavyweight came calling. Make sure you send Bettman a Christmas card this year, because if he hadn't expanded the league to 30 teams, you'd be stealing your salary from some team in the Tier II Polish Elite League instead of stealing it from those 28 devoted fans in Atlanta.

6. Explanation for the vitriol in #5. Valabik and Mike Richards used to play on the same junior team together in Kitchener. Kitchener is one of the rival teams of my Erie Otters.

7. Finally, FH said it best. World of difference with Marc-Andre Fleury in the net.

Dr. Turkleton said...

stoosh...

funny how the boys appear to play different in front of Sabu v. MAF...

going into tonites tilt, Sabu was 23rd in the league in Goals Against Avg, MAF: 42nd....yet, Sabu with only 6 W's in 15 GP and MAF had 8 in 14 [now 9 in 15].

is DAL the biggest disappointment this year or what? The fellas playing in front of Marty put a five spot on the board and he gives up the tying goal with less than 2.5 minutes to play...It's almost as if Turco is going the Chuck Knoblauch/Steve Blass route into the twilight of his career.

It WOULD be nice for a team like CBJ to crack the top 8 and see the playoffs for the 1st time in their franchise history...this Mason kid in goal [not playing tonite] has been unreal...and it looks like Nash finally has some decent secondary scoring in rookie, Brassard.

So is this reason enough to start voting MAF again??

I say yes. He'll get 20 games in too by the 2nd, even if he doesn't play both games in the upcoming back-to-backs.

Holy shit... I've been browsing through Getty Images and found THIS.

I'm surprised the camera lens didn't melt from all the awesomeness...

@ Carroll -

I think part of it is the fact that I grew up with minor league hockey for the better part of eight years with the Erie Panthers. When the ECHL left town and we replaced minor pro with major junior, most of the fans didn't realize the caliber of hockey we'd be getting. I knew many of the names, but the quality of hockey was even better than I had expected to see. I've been able to watch some very good players come through Erie (either as Otters or as members of visiting teams).

The junior game is every bit as entertaining to watch because every kid plays hard every night. Every check is finished. Every fight is a knock-down, drag-out affair...not some of this scripted enforcer crap you see in the NHL.

And when the team is winning, it's awesome to see the fanbase fall in love with these kids. Tim Connolly, Brad Boyes, Carlo Colaiacovo, Chris Campoli...these kids are every bit as loved and revered in Erie as Sid, Geno and yes, even Lemieux is here.

They retired Boyes's number in Erie last season and there wasn't a dry eye in the building, including Boyes.
