GAMEDAY [26] --Ottawa Senators

How perfectly placed is Charlie's hockey stick.
Thanks to SNYPER for coming up with the idea.

9-10-4

Ain't no party like a Scotiabank party.

There is nothing like getting the hate juices flowing early on a Saturday.
The Sens have been a joke this year, but we knew that was coming for a long time.

But let's not forget how one game can change a season. Over a year ago, the Pens were in the Sens shoes, except none of them fled the country after committing a crime.

The Pens were a similar 8-11-2.
The Sens were an astounding 16-4-1. They were cruising.

Then, the Sens pooped themselves in 6-5 shootout loss and went 27-27-1 the rest of the way.
There is no reason to think something like that will happen, but it is amazing how fast things change.

::::::::::::::::::

Joko Ruutu will be up to some old tricks. He had some interesting thoughts on the Avery thing.
[SLAM]

"It wasn't a surprise," said Senators winger Jarkko Ruutu. "If you want people to respect you off the ice, you better behave off the ice. Stuff that happens on the ice, stays on the ice. I think that's been the code forever. You've got to be smart with what you say. No one can dispute (he crossed the line)"

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

[Picture+21.png]

TK is out 4-6 weeks.
We're in a hurry doing this post. There's a link somewhere.

Interesting article about Malkin and Crosby having a good competition going. [TRIB]

"Call them the "Dynamic Duo," though keep in mind that neither Malkin nor Crosby digs that tag."

"No matter their nickname -- "Mega Powers" has gained steam recently on the Internet -- there is reason to believe this season could be remembered as the point in hockey history when two transcendent talents firmly asserted themselves as a center tandem for the ages."

"Mega Powers" gaining steam on the internet?
Wonder where that came from?

We did a double take when Sabu said something about it last game.
The photoshop is from reader Justin Falce. Just another example of how a photoshop can change your life.

We fully expect this photoshop to be hanging in Section F of the Mellon by the end of the season.

Unreal.

Orpik will knock some sense into Ruutu yet again.

Two Ruutu's in a row. And we'll rock them both.

Sabu, do big things, as you've been known to do.

And that Mega Powers PS is still beautiful.

Go Pens (and Pitt Panthers).

WOOOOOOO.

Staff-

Thanks a BUNCH for posting the photoshop of Petr Gunn.....now we get to listen to Steigy drop that every 2 seconds during his abismal "play by play".

Wow... I move and don't have the internets for a while and when I come back to my favorite site, I am rewarded with lols. LOVE the Mega Powers shop. As I am stuck at work... does anyone know a reliable way to watch the game online?

@Tanya- That's weird. It was a pretty slim margin between the two, though.

Jarkko Ruutu is classy as shit off the ice though. You seen them glasses? Scholarly douchebag right there.

Matt Cooke and Jarkko Ruutu cause a rip in space/time when they connect on a massive body check on eachother, causing their to be too much pest per square inch.

Also, Mega Powers ain't no joke.

Aubrey said...

Hands of God or Cookie Monster v. Ruutu????
This shit could be good...

debrisslide said...

Ruutu is classy, Travis. I had to job him over at my blog though. He's gonna get lots of free candy today.

fleuryous said...

No doubt Jarkko is a pest, but at least he keeps it on the ice.

Avery's buffoonery is neverending...kind of like his passion for fashion.

And his glasses do add an air of intelligence.

Hopefully, it turns around when this game is over.

Big second period, Pens.

Vanessa said...

What the hell are those uniforms the Sens are wearing? Is that their idea of a third jersey? That is the worst jersey design I've ever seen. Nothing like stating the obvious. "SENS". We get it.

--Sorry, I'm in the fashion biz. I know you guys don't care about that crap.

fleuryous said...

Vanessa...since you are in the fashion industry, what are your thoughts on the fashion savvy of a one Sean Avery?

I agree their uniforms are...pooblah.

tanya said...

I think Flyers' have the worst jersey... I wish I was blind everytime I see those horrible orange creation which should be burnt in hell and all evidence their exist destroyed

fleuryous said...

Wait, Tanya...their jerseys or them in general?

Ouch.

fleuryous said...

Ugh, I switch just in time to see the Sens celebrate their goal.

Well, we're better down and getting them from behind. Sens like it that way too.

LargeTurkey said...

Why is he chasing players behind the net, leaving it completely open?

tanya said...

fleuryous - I was talking about the jerseys but now you mentioned it... both:) Well, except Timonen

tanya said...

Nice play by Letang... (or someone else, couldn't read the name well)

Vanessa said...

Crap. They scored. Again.

Fleuryous... Sean Avery's interest in fashion is not that interesting to me. I honestly think he's using it as just another tool in creating his image. If you think about it, most hockey players dress well and like fashion. Look at any off-ice picture of Max Talbot or Geno.

Avery is a self proclaimed clothes horse, but he's not creating any new trends or looks with his own dressing. Someone who was truly into fashion is always trying to be innovative and unique. Although Avery claims to be interested in women's fashion, not really mens, any fashionphile would automatically bring innovation into their own lives.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think he uses it for shock value, because of the preconceived notion that all "tough" hockey players don't care about fashion. He probably thought that some guys would call him gay, so he could have an excuse to start crap with them.

fleuryous said...

Neil is a goober.

Smizik's panties are probably in a bunch now.

fleuryous said...

Ruutu, thank you.

tanya said...

delay of game = worst.penalty.ever.

tanya said...

I'm happy that Sens got penalty but I still hate it

Stoosh said...

I'm not a big fan of these stupid pre-arranged fights between enforcers, because that's all too many of these enforcers are reduced to anymore.

But Neil and Godard are two guys that can both play (Neil maybe a little moreso than Godard), and that fight reminded me of some of those bouts in the late 1980s or early 1990s, when you'd see two guys that could play AND fight square off, beat the crap out of each other and then come up and give each other a pat on the back afterwards.

Allison said...

That Orpik hit was gorgeous.

Stoosh said...

A new Orpik hit for the highlight reel.

Stoosh said...

Yard sale in front of Spezza's house.

Vanessa said...

@Stoosh, I agree. I think there are too many of those fights and not enough emotion in them. I would love to see fights that were borne of true emotion and passion for their team/mates.

It's just not fun to watch the same guys go at it over and over. Fights are a part of the game, but I'd love to see guys like Max or Geno, or TK get involved with someone just because they care. I know it happens sometimes, but the fights currently seen in the NHL are too much of the same.

fleuryous said...

TK v Upshall fight in the ECF...still one of the most entertaining I've seen.

Come on, boys...PPG.

Stoosh said...

Stoosh said...

50 career goals for Staalsy!

Carroll is probably going nuts right now at the game.

Serena and Chuck said...

@ Vanessa - I had this same conversation with someone about Avery. I think he also said he played with dolls just to get dudes to call him gay and want to start with him. Everything he does is soooo calculated, and yet a lot of people buy into it.

Staal...wooooo!

tanya said...

I also want my hockey without Spezza scoring a hat trick...

meecrofilm said...

Pennies need a bounce to help them get back in the game.

Stoosh said...

No one gave two pounds of rat shit about Sean Avery when he was with Detroit. And for the most part, no one cared much about him when he was with Los Angeles either, outside of his little pissing match with Brian Heyward and Laraque accusing him of making a racist remark on the ice.

When Avery got to New York, it was a match made in heaven because the New York media is more interested in someone that can create a story than they are actual talent.

Avery has never eclipsed the 40-point mark in a season (he had 39 in 2005-06) and he's never scored more than 15 goals in a season, yet somehow the media managed to make him just as relevant as guys like Brendan Shanahan or even Jaromir Jagr. And now the rest of the media now treats this guy like his opinion on things matter.

tanya said...

best interview ever

fleuryous said...

Come on Pens...big third.

Vanessa said...

@Stoosh-- I know what you mean. I was reading up on his stats after that Elisha Cuthbert thing and wasn't impressed. I always knew he wasn't a goal scorer.

It's so true about the New York media doing anything for a story. My sister-in-law is a member of that group (NY reporter) and my husband jokingly calls her stories "Baby in the dumpster stories". I totally agree that it was the perfect situation to get his name out there. He's nothing more than an attention whore who happens to have been lucky enough to get into the NHL.

fleuryous said...

Woooooah, close call.

Kat said...

My roommate just called Bing a little girl for that slash. That's automatic disownment.
