With all the hard work TK's been doing, I want him to get a goal. Let's go, TK.

Go Pens.

LargeTurkey said...

If Pesonen gets adequate playing time with line mates with an ok scoring touch (not godard and Zigomanis), He will bury one. nananananan.

I love Rick Jeanneret...the Gus Johnson of the NHL. This guy could make reading the phone book sound awesome.

Jeanneret calls Brian Campbell laying out R.J. Umberger.

One of my all-time favorites...

Drury ties Game Five against the Rangers a couple of years ago.

You only need to listen to the first minute or so of the clip. And I have no f'ing idea what he says from like 0:55 to 1:00.

And his all-time best...

May Day.

So far this season it varies between 3 and 8 people... but last year in the playoffs there was consistently 15 people minimum.

Come chat and be merry

NHL Center Ice doesn't seem to be carrying today's game. Does anyone know a site on the web that has live video feed?

man, this PP makes me shudder

Docciavelli said...

Dave Andreychuk. Skated like Hal Gill, shot like Mike Bossy.

Couldn't hang in today's game, but was a beast in his day.

Docciavelli said...

On cue, Lindy Ruff on Andreychuk: "Not a great skater, by any means."

Docciavelli said...

What a garbage powerplay the Pens have on the road. 8% now? Ugh. Time to start declining penalties.

fleuryous said...

Patrick Kaleta takes more penalties than the entire Penguins roster.

Dear Lord.

pops said...

seriously, is there anyway hcmt can bench mike yeo or something? send a message? our pp is a no threat.

Docciavelli said...

Orpik to the box for handing out Mallo Cups and Smoothies.

fleuryous said...

Man oh man.

Curry is playing really well--that was a tough shot.

fleuryous said...

BING!

Goal clusters.

pops said...

once steigy said something about buff having a first shot on the PP i knew something bad was going to happen on the next. fuck

pops said...

thank god, sid. needed something offensively

rickyaustin33 said...

Steigy just laughed at Pominville. haha.

"tripped over the blue-line, apparently"

fleuryous said...

If Orpik had a good shot on that goal, Miller wouldn't have had a face.

Fact.

fleuryous said...

BING, GET A HATTRICK. WOOOOO. haha

pops said...

wow. therrien, all business. love it

pops said...

0 for 7

rickyaustin33 said...

One shot and then ice the puck.

Not momentum.

WTF Mike Yeo?

Allison said...

Someone NEEDS to get a screen shot of Orpik's face there on the bench.

pops said...

wow, letang. just wow. come on, guys. they gave that one to them way too easy

fleuryous said...

Holy shit, that was a great save by Curry.

fleuryous said...

Can I say that Buffalo's starting goalie is being shown up by our THIRD goalie?

Curry has been making some great saves.

Go Roccooooo.

pops said...

i agree. curry has played a great game. in all fairness, all three goals were basically slam dunks. not his fault.

pops said...

holy shit. they need to wake up, because curry is SAVING THIS FUCKING GAME RIGHT NOW!!

BEAST

pops said...

there is no way theyre gonna rule this a fucking goal. they mustve blown the whistle.

pops said...

seriously. the pens looked weak this period. im not surprised its a 4-3 buff game.

rebecca said...

bing wants a hatty. do it.

rebecca said...

also agreed, even just them going to review it, i'm like NAW BRAH.
curry :)

PittHockey said...

3 shots in the third, that's just asking for a loss.

pops said...

0 for 7
no goal on a 50 second 5 on 3
a VERY VERY weak 3rd defensively and overall
overskated a TON of pucks and allowed a ton of oddman rushes

curry played great, he didn't deserve having no help defensively

ugh. could've been a win. buffalo deserved to win this game, though, they showed up in the 3rd

in the end...0 for 7. ugh. vomit.

fleuryous said...

Curry deserves a star. I know the losing goaltender typically doesn't get one, but come on...he was phenomenal.

Pens played good hockey--but they were leading going into the third. You know what that means...

rebecca said...

did that just say pens win 4-3? or am i tripping balls?

rickyaustin33 said...

Zero and forever on the powerplay.

Lose.

Coincidence?

dying alive said...

Curry played an awesome game.

I know that the Pens are going to lose some games, but I hate losing to Buffalo because of their fuckface fans.

fleuryous said...

The Pens are lucky to have such strong goaltending. Seriously.

I love that Curry is only 5'11, but he plays like he's 6'4.

Boss.

Flyer Hater said...

I didn't expect to win this game anyway, in a hostile environment, with basically an ECHL goalie, you usually don't come away with two points. It would have been nice to steal a point but I'm not too worried about it. Just beat Jersey tomorrow.

Docciavelli said...

@fleuryous

I don't think the Pens played good hockey in this one, other than in spurts.

The entire third period was played in Pittsburgh's end, and the final 90 seconds was symptomatic of that play. They couldn't even break it out to get Curry to the bench.

Frankly, the 3rd tonight looked like the 1st and 2nd periods of the Isles game on Wednesday.

HCMT has some work to do with these guys on the PP. But on the bright side--no shortys? 4-for-47 PP on the road. 8%.

Reminds me of the '90 Canadiens, when a Guy Carbonneau-led unit at one point literally had as many shorties against them as PP goals on the road. Crosby is not Russ Courtnall and Malkin is not Stephane Richer. This should not happen.

Peso was a non-factor offensively, and I counted more than one time he was out of position in his own zone. There's a reason Fedotenko will be back in the lineup shortly.

Flyer Hater said...

Buffalo Still Blows

Flyer Hater said...

Mike Yeo has to go, there is no way that a first unit filled with Crosby, Malkin, Sykora, Satan, and Goligoski should be clicking at a rate below 20% Hell, I would think that 25% is achievable.

Docciavelli said...

@FH

Curry's not an ECHL netminder. Hell, tonight he looked like a legit NHL goalie. Even the Buffalo feed credited him with the "save of the game."

This one was lost by mental errors and an inability to consistently break the puck out and get it deep. Frankly, that'll doom you in most games, except where a few individuals make an exceptional play or two to get some goals. Luckily, Crosby and Malkin have been doing just that.

I'm not going LGP here, but I've noticed something in some games recently - other than the PP vomit - that concerns me. I guess it's my nature as a coach, but when I repeatedly see a team running around chasing the puck instead of controlling it, I think something's wrong.

Maybe Whits will right the ship.

Where the hell is Curry?

jammer jagger said...

he played like he was 6'4"? really? he's an emotional goaltender, and he made some key saves tonight.

But honestly, he's out of position a lot of the time, goes down early, and is not very disciplined.

A tested goal scorer will eat him alive, i'm afraid. not to take away from what he did tonight, but it will be good to have MAF back.

Flyer Hater said...

"Curry's not an ECHL netminder. Hell, tonight he looked like a legit NHL goalie. Even the Buffalo feed credited him with the "save of the game.""

Ever hear about the blind squirrel and the acorn? For most of the game I thought Curry looked like crap, out of position, flopping around, and having trouble controlling almost every rebound.

The Penguins need MAF back.

Docciavelli said...

@jj

Curry's rough around the edges, granted. But the talent's there. You can see the reaction time and the ability to see shots through traffic.

We can agree that he wasn't the problem tonight though, right?

dd7 said...

So 7 games in the echl qualifies you as an echl goalie?

jammer jagger said...

@ flyer hater:

word.

Flyer Hater said...

Curry will never be a starter in this league, ever.

Flyer Hater said...

No, Curry's ability qualifies him as an ECHL goalie.

Flyer Hater said...

If you can't even have a save percentage above .900 in the AHL, how good could you possibly be?

Docciavelli said...

@FH

Ever hear about Elroy Jetson and a Stanley Cup? He's a half-assed goalie as well, but his team usually carries him with a great system and all he has to do is make saves on routine shots. Curry was asked to do plenty tonight, and frankly he did his job.

Buffalo was getting chances in front on a regular basis tonight, and there was a ton of traffic. I'm not going to knock the guy in his first NHL start. If you were expecting Roberto Luongo, I'm sorry.

TheTick said...

Good game, guys. No joke. I thought Curry played very well for you, and the refs were trying very hard to affect the outcome (in either direction at various times). Buffalo played the way they did the first half-dozen games of the season, hitting hard, skating fast and trying their damnedest not to leave Miller high and dry. See ya on Versus December 8th.

dd7 said...

I watched curry all last year in WBS he is far from an ECHL goalie.
What he is a quality cheap back up goalie in the nhl.

Docciavelli said...

07-08: John Curry had a .915 SV% in 40 games with WBS. This year's .897 is over 8 games.

Stop dogging the kid.

Flyer Hater said...

I'm not knocking Curry for his performance tonight, I'm just saying that he's not an NHL caliber goaltender.

dd7 said...

You are knocking him by saying he is an echl goalie

Flyer Hater said...

It's pretty stupid actually to be arguing over someone who won't start more than 20 games in his NHL career.

Flyer Hater said...

"You are knocking him by saying he is an echl goalie"

It's not an insult, it's a fact. Just because he made one lucky glove save in the third period doesn't mean I'm about to appoint him the next Bernie Parent.

Flyer Hater said...

Maybe I'm too critical because I play goal and focus in a lot on what goaltenders do but I saw a ton of flaws in Curry's game.

Docciavelli said...

How long did people say that Tim Thomas wasn't "NHL caliber" or that Ty Conklin wasn't either?

Again, this is beside the point. Sabu had the same difficulty on Wednesday, and I don't think you'd say he isn't "NHL caliber." It wasn't Sabu's fault either. It's as simple as this: If your team gives up too many chances in your end, you'll give up goals. It doesn't matter if Ken Fuckin' Dryden is between the pipes.

dd7 said...

I never said he was berine parant.
But he is far from an echl goalie.
He is most likely going to be backing up MAF next year though.

Flyer Hater said...

"How long did people say that Tim Thomas wasn't "NHL caliber" or that Ty Conklin wasn't either?"

No team will ever win a Stanley Cup or come close with Tim Thomas as their goaltender and need I remind you about the past glorious moments of Ty Conklin?

Flyer Hater said...

I wonder how much the Pens could get in return for Fleury since Curry has firmly entrenched himself as the number 1 goalie with "the save, pt. 2"

Docciavelli said...

As of right now, nobody's won a Cup with MAF either.

You made me do it FH. Here's your glorious MAF moment.

So are we done with this conversation yet? Or do you need to job Curry some more?

dd7 said...

FH I am not saying anything like that all I am saying is he is not an echl goalie he is an ahl starter and can and most likely will be our back up next year.

Docciavelli said...

Eh. Whatev. I'm done with the convo re: Curry.

Just score some fucking man-advantage goals and don't worry about who's in net.

Peace.

meecrofilm said...

So, can we all at least agree that this is more or less the current state of the Pens' PP?>

Jonny Van Mundegaarde said...

It's a shame what crack can do, Meecro

John Curry is no Kelly Hrudey

Jim Paek said...

detroit's pp is clicking at almost 33%. just saying, that's fucking insane.

but hossa has herpes so it's void.

gpclay said...

Fawk.

Allison said...

I don't know how long until someone fixes it, but man, I wish I'd seen Kris Letang'sgoal.

debrisslide said...

First game I was able to watch on actual television since the Pens came to Boston. Home for Thanksgiving is always fun. Screaming at the TV with friends almost made the loss bearable. . .

We played good enough to win this game at many points, but so did the Sabres. Shit really wasn't clicking at all, but we got some offensive bursts that kept us in it. So did fucking Curry. We were so soft on the Sabres defensively that the fact we were even in it was due to his ability to make some timely saves. I have a ton of respect for the kid--he's a capable backup. If he's backing up Fleury next year, so far I'm not worried.

Going to have to disagree with FH. WOOOO.

The Penguins could not receive passes tonight. Too many giveaways. That, and soff defensive play, lost us the game. Ooops. Time to get nasty with the Devils.

When is MAF coming back though? Jeez.

fleuryous said...

That Winehouse picture is legendary...and that's saying alot considering...it's Amy Winehouse.

fleuryous said...

And I never said Curry was a Luongo or a Brodeur...for what I was expecting, he exceeded my expectation, and a lot of others, from what I've seen. None of his goals were "soff," from what I saw. He worked his ass off tonight, and I'm proud.

If he's our backup next year, I will be content with that...

but I will miss Sabu.

Flyer Hater said...

A day later and Curry is still an ECHL caliber goalie...
