Pensblog: In The Posts And Beyond

This post is brought to you by:

Now is as good a time as any to visit an old friend:

Is that guy pointing at himself?

That dude in the chair may be a gameday candidate.

UPDATE: Darryl Sydor has asked for a trade. TRIB
H/T to Eileenover in C-blog.

This past Saturday, every NHL team was in action on the same day for the first time since opening night of the post-lockout season.

Ross The Boss McKeon broke down the day of stats. YAHOO

Check out this hit that Doug Weight laid on rookie Brandon Sutter.
He's the one who scored on Orpik's gaffe the other night:

People are whining that it's a hit to the head.
Tell the rookie to keep his head up. What an idiot.
Weight wasn't going for the head. Case closed.
If that's what Weight is about, he wouldn't have been in the league this long.
These guys are flying around the ice. It's a physical sport.
There's a difference between this and something Chris Simon would do.

David Lee from RED AND BLACK HOCKEY agrees.

If Sutter keeps his head up, he would see the hit coming.
He went to the hospital with a concussion and has been released.
He'll keep his head up next time.
But it won't stop the Hurricanes' GM from being on his period. TSN

The Hawks and Wings unveiled their throwback uniforms for the Winter Classic. NHL.COM
Chris Chelios is an idiot.

though that really sucks for sutter, weight is far from being a headhunting goon.

i agree that he will learn to keep his head up.

Justin said...

Clean hit with intention means clean hit to me.

Sutter is the one who made it illegal, he should get thrown out or put in the box for it.

Flyer Hater said...

People who think the Weight hit was dirty shouldn't be allowed to watch hockey anymore.

Scotty G said...

That Great Day for Hockey commercial is just awesome. Total goosbumps every time.

FireFox said...

Holy shit those throwbacks are ugly as hell. The Pens and Sabres were all over the Winter Classic in the right way. This one isn't going to hold a candle to last year, mark it down.

But I will still watch it because I will have my head up. Young Mr. Sutter might miss watching the game. LOL!

I get chills watching the Great Day for Hockey spot every time. Never has an organization understood their fans like the Pens. When it comes to fan public relations, the Pens bury it. Gee, I wonder where they got that from. :)

@ Staff:

Smizik just called, he wants hitting to be banned from the game now..

That is all.. for now..

The Goon Blogger said...

As the authority on goonery, Weight's hit was as solid as solid can get.

I mean, if you're gonna call that hit dirty you might as well call the hit on Umberger a few years back dirty as well. Dude's get lit up sometimes, it happens.

Sides, it wasn't like Weight only went after him because he was looking the other way, like a certain Steelers WR.

wilsmith said...

Firefox I agree, but I bet everyone outside of Pittsburgh and Buffalo said the same thing about the jerseys last season.

Glorious hit, thats what the league needs.

Keep your head up.

fleuryous said...

I still love that commercial.

It wasn't a malicious hit.
It was clean.
Ridiculously hard hit, but still clean.

And you need to keep your head up.
Plain and simple.

Man, at least Sutter's okay.

Jonny Van Mundegaarde said...

I don't think even the Bengles message boards have had this much whining over a Steeler than what's been here the last couple weeks. Try a little harder goon blogger

OrpikSmash said...

i like the uniforms for the Winter Classic simply b/c of the Original 6 angle being taken with the game. I think they will look even better inside Wrigley as opposed to if the game was at soldier field. it'll have a real historical feeling about it.

The Goon Blogger said...

Lol@People taking the Steelers way too seriously.

Hines Ward=My favorite player on the Steelers besides Aaron Smith.

Good game.

debrisslide said...

Putting that video at the end of the post = the ultimate uplifting thing to put an end to a shitty hockey weekend.

Let's get out west and kick some ass.

fleuryous said...

I'm actually partial to Keisel.
Although, I do really love Aaron Smith.

But Keisel's makes me like him more. haha

I have Parker's jersey, but Moore is playing like a beast. I'm totally comfortable with him starting, although I'm pretty pumped Parker is probably starting next week.

which is higher?

A] the number of pump, pump, pumpfakes it takes a Stiller to throw a football

2] the total height, in ft., over the gimp punters head snapped by a short, muscle freak, girlfriend slapping, linebacker

III] San Antonio Holmes

If it's good enough for Knute, it's good enough for me.

Rage said...

Okay, this is kinda off the subject of the Stillers, but if you look under the pic of the D-BAG in the Grape Smuggler speedos pointing at his big toe sized peen, the guy in the grenade shirt looks like Vinny Lecavi-queer...sweardagawd...or is it just me?

fleuryous said...

"III] San Antonio Holmes"

Turk...I am in love with you...r comment. hahahah.

That comment made my weekend ten times better.

Thank you.

Harry Kalas is the new voice of God.

Making an observation is taking things too seriously? My mood hasn't changed one bit since the end of the game. As a matter of fact, all three Pittsburgh area teams had a pretty shitty weekend, and I can care less. Didn't take one bit of wind out of my sails. They lost. C'est la Vie. Just think it's funny that someone who likes Ward so much is still crying about a block he laid on some guy. Let it go dude. It's really unbecoming for someone who devotes time to writing a blog on goons.

Barbasol gets the Sr. Van Mundegaarde seal of approval, Doc.

High hit, but clean. This shouldn't even be the conversation though. Depending on Sutter's luck, this might carry with him the rest of his career. I certainly hope not. Kid is fun to watch and all promise at this point. Everyone's got their head down at some point, he just got caught. Don't just write this off as a warning to everyone else. Fingers crossed for him.

Aaron Smith is far and away my most favorite Stee.

I like the WC jerseys.

hockey is a tough as nails sport. weights hit was an example of a rookie making a mistake by not being aware of his surroundings. He learned an important lesson.

as far as this years winter classic is concerned. I for one am utterly pumped. I think it will be a great game. As well as another great showcase for the sport overall. A hard fought blackhawk victory.

staff- hilarious post.

With that said, if anyone ever needs any commercial signs, vehicle wraps, magnetics, business cards, or banners... Feel free to call Signs of Steel out of Denton, TX @ (940) 612-3999.

I could be wrong, but isn't this player-T historically inaccurate?

This song has been stuck in my head all weekend...

I thought it was The Rick for a second there, Jon...but I gave you the benefit of the doubt and clicked on it. haha

FYI...that girl is definitely not wear a bra-ski.

fleuryous said...

*not wearing.

I never said I was a great typer. Lay off.

SteelPensBucs said...

Not a good weekend for Piitsburgh teams versus NJ/CT/NY teams.

The Steelers, Pens, Pitt, and Duquesne all lost to teams/schools from that area (Giants, Rangers, Rutgers, and Sacred Heart). At least Robert Morris came through, beating Wagner.

I am unfortunately stuck in CT, so I get to deal with Boston and New York fans on a regular basis.

I need to get back to Pittsburgh.

SteelPensBucs said...

Jesus, that would be Pittsburgh.

I apologize if this was already posted somewhere, but Sydor has apparently asked for a trade. Below the article.

brett said...

Poor Sydor.. I feel bad for him. He deserves top-6 time, just not with us. Best of luck to him and I hope he goes somewhere that playoffs are a possibility.

jefe p said...

sydor for gaborik. done deal.

fleuryous said...

Man, I'll miss Sydor.

fleuryous said...

And I'll be damned if we pay Gaborik a ridiculous amount of money.

nonono. haha

debrisslide said...

Sydor is a go for the trade. I wish him luck. The guy is solid but we don't need him.

Leave it up to the fucking papers to put in that Sykora supports McCain though. I don't really give a shit. Does the election have to be part of EVERYTHING all of a sudden?

stokes said...

I hesitate to even call that a hit. Weight made contact, but it was really like Weight just skated into him, not lowering his shoulder, not head hunting or anything. If Sutter had not been leaning forward to reach the puck, we'd not be talking about that hit. Stop whining.

fleuryous said...

I just realized how funny of a picture of that guy pointing to his package is.

Awkward sentence, I know.

Is he serious?

OOCally said...

Found this on the net....About sids 100-200-300 night. They compiled his top 10 goals.

Rage said...

@fleuryous- you call that a package?

Are YOU serious?

watching "Great Day for Hockey" makes everyday GREAT! having the clarks play that song is clutch.

firefox is right, the pens know their fans.

johnnylaw said...

You'd think the Hurricane's commentators would realize that the hit was "high" because Sutter was not only not looking, but was bending over quite a bit? Hopefully he's ok and that he's learned a valuable lesson.

As far as Gaborik goes, I'd cream myself if we got him, but it won't happen, the guy is more moneygrubbing than Hossa.

As far as the douchebag award, it'd have to be between the guy in the banana hammock and the guy with those hideous glasses. I'd give it to Mr.Italia though for thinking he has the wang to actually fill out a speedo.

I kinda saw the new Talbot/A&L commercial on Saturday, but since we were out, there was no sound.

Anybody know if it's on youtube yet? I tried to obvious searches (Talbot, A&L) last night and got nothing.

Beav said...

I am way off the Gaborik bandwagon. Great player when he's healthy. Too bad that's only about 15 games a season. Poor Minnesota, can't resign him cause he turned down ridiculous money and can't trade him because he's out right now (yet again) with a groin issue.

Gabs and Tim Connolly should have a bet to see if they can finish a season with at least 70 games played.

demondg1 said...

The chick in the pink bikini needs it from a real man. Needs it bad. And I'd like to give it to her.

That settles it, I'm dressing like a douchebag for Halloween.

The dude in the chair NEEDS to be the game day post. But reserve him for big games only.

The Hawks WC09 jerseys are sweet as can be. Back in the day, they wore them with cream colored pants. I hope they do the same New Years day. Most people will hate em. But I like it.

crmzak said...

ha! At first glance, I thought that was the Rock pointing to his unit.

I agree, that other dude does looks like Vinny. Although he seems more along the lines of a douchenozzle than douchebag.
