Sabourin was absolutely phenomenal tonight. I'm proud to have him as our backup. He is so clutch in the shoot outs it's unreal.
I think Malkin will score on almost every shoot out, penalty shot, and shorthanded breakaway this season. After he missed that penalty shot against the Rags in the playoffs you know he was seriously pissed. He will never let that happen again.
I think the last goal Malkin scored in a shootout was the one against Washington 2 years ago to cap off that 4 goal comeback. Scoring against Kolzig doesn't even count anyway.
I haven't been this pumped for a regular season win in a while. This was just a great game and win.
I think the Pens just have a collective amount of SO talent for the entire team. Since Crosby and Satan took shots that *I* could have made the save on, there was plenty left in the pool for Malkin to take and make a sweet goal with.

Yeah, because trying to preserve a road point in the final minutes with solid defensive play is really stupid. We should have put Crosby-Malkin-Sykora-Satan-Letang out there for the entire 5 minutes.
Why is Staal going to get murdered (I missed the first period so this isn't entirely sarcastic)? He would have ended the game in OT if it wasn't for him getting hooked. I thought the slash was a little suspect obviously, but Staal musta thought he could get away with it, Wideman was throwing so pretty big checks and I guess Staal just wanted to let him know he was there. Also, Wideman totally embelished.
Yeah yeah, he thought he could get away with it, but it was still a really stupid move when we were one man up in overtime. I kind of felt bad because he looked so upset. I just don't think Therrien will take it so lightly. He doesn't take much lightly.
Staal fucking blows. There's just no way you take that penalty in that situation. A 4 on 3 PP in OT is almost a guaranteed goal.

I can admit that, especially because the refs are looking to even up the teams even more than usual. Even if we had lost, I don't think it would be a huge deal.
We had basically a 3 on 2 for a good 40 seconds at the end of OT and still couldn't get it in.

It's still a little early in the season to be busting Gronk's offensive output, Sid only got his first goal the other night.
In other words...Staal doesn't suck.

Staal was moving in front of the net if you didn't notice at the end. If it's not one thing we're bitching about, it's another. Staal is a young guy who is learning to adapt, give him time to do so. He is talented defensively and is a great shut-down center. Center is his natural position and the scoring isn't coming like it was his rookie season, but it's hardly because lack of effort.
Tank has also been contributing on the defensive side of play and has been great on the energy line. Give him some credit.
@Fleuryous: Don't bring up the brotherly competition. Not like the media doesn't try to go over-kill with that *rolls eyes* Eric and Jordan are brothers? What?! What about this Marc Staal and Jared Staal? Are they brothers too?

I respect your opinion IHK but I think that's laughable. At times this year he's looked lost in his own end and has not made the simple plays to get the puck out. I can't stand when people treat Staal like Bob Gainey when he's finished with a minus more often than not. I'm sorry, but you can't be a 2nd line center in this league and not be expected to contribute offensively.

I don't think people are saying Staal is bad, but everyone always says Crosby, Malkin and Staal. The three that are going to bring us to the promise land. Staal should not be considered in this company. Fine, he is good at defense. To bad he plays forward. Defensive forwards are valuable, but they are not superstars. I just don't want us to overpay for this guy. 2.5 million is still a decent amount. I simply said I don't want him to be paid significantly more than that. And seriously his chop to the dick in OT is indefensible.

Normally, I hate me some 2-1 games because I'm always afraid they're going to give Count Bettman cause to allow the pre-lockout rules to seep back into the game. But there was a good flow to the game and that resulted in a plethora of scoring chances.

Flyer Hater, I see where you're getting at with your comment. You obviously know I'm not proclaiming him as Gainey which should be stated for others to know. Tonight wasn't his night, we know that, Staal knows, HCMT knows, but he can't have a great night every night.
I think he is putting to much repsonsiblity on himself with the departure of Malone to be a more versatile guy. I know you don't think highly of Bugsy on many levels, but you at least understand the metaphor. Bugsy had great PK skills and defensive skills, but he also used his body to create offense and his hands are pretty nice. Not too mention his ability to fight and at least protect his teammates. Now Staal has a lot of abilities he wastes because he feels like he has to play differently which is what I feel is wrong with his playing now compared to last year and the year before. Staal has great capabilities as a Top 6 forward, to trade him now seems like we might be not giving him a chance to live up to his potential. I don't think we should give up on Staal considering all of this potential. Like I said he's young and needs to adapt to the changes presented in the organization.

I think Pens fans are just spoiled. They see young centers like Crosby and Malkin light it up and expect Staal to do the same. When in fact Crosby and Malkin are both one in a generation hockey players. Most guys Crosby and Malkin's age are just getting their first NHL time. Staal will be good.

Most of the time I just shout about God beating some one up or Biz Nasty murdering someone's family with their fists. But much like a goon stuffing in the odd goal, I stuff in the odd point about actual hockey.

He's young, great, but I still say if e doesn't improve by the deadline see what solid player you can get and sign them long term.
You can get so much in return for Staal. These bone-headed Ontario-born GM's would give up almost anything to get their hands on the golden boy.
The same things that are being said about Jordan Staal now were said about Ryan Malone. They have almost mirrored careers so far to boot. Malone too had an amazing rookie campaign and then kind of plateaued for a while, constantly battling trade rumors while still going out and sticking it as hard as he could.
fh, while that's true, I just can't get the pipe dreams out of my head of having another Ronny Francis. I think Staal's potential is atleast that.
A hockey cliche that has always annoyed me is "naturally", like Staal's a "natural center". Did the doctor label him as a center as soon as he came out of the womb?
First of all, there will never be a player like Ronny Franchise again. Ronnie showed offensive ability early in his career, he's the 4th all-time leading scorer in history. At worst, we'd be losing a Rob Brind a'mour
