Still Pensblog After All These Years

First post in the history of The Pensblog: September 9, 2006.

[Malkin Tent]

We aren't one to really make a big deal about it, but it is hard to believe.

After 1,238 post, countless jobbings, and some long nights, to say we are the same people that started that post back in 2006 would be a lie.

We have entered the words " two men making out" into search engines more times than we would like to remember since then.

But we are still the same people that can't listen to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" anymore because of the lyric "...just a city boy born and raised in South Detroit."

We still get mad when we see some joke Canadian fan whining on the internet or some asshole wearing a Rangers jersey.

And as much as sometimes we mail it in, or don't care,
we know somehow we will always end up back in front of the computer.

We could get all sappy and shit.
But let us just say, thanks to everyone for making the last two years fun.
Hopefully we have many more.

Now to way more important news:

From [KK]:

“He’s really excited to play in front of Nick (Lidstrom), Rafi (Brian Rafalski) and Kronner (Niklas Kronwall) and all those guys.

“He’s very competitive. He’s anxious to play good hockey.

It’s not that they didn’t play good hockey in Pittsburgh but, every time he played Detroit, our puck possession and style of hockey he loves it.”

-- Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky on Marian Hossa

[Thanks to Big K and Bobby T ]

Hossa and Conklin laugh about how slow Conklin is.

Vomit city.

:: HCMT is everywhere. [Penguins.com]

“I got a chance to speak with Mike and wish him good luck in person,” Therrien said. “It was an amazing experience to be down on the field before the game, to see all those guys, and it was great to have the Steelers open the season with a big win.”

HCMT is using plurals now? Unreal.

:: The Penguins prospects report today to prepare for the rookie tournament in Kitchener, Ont. over the weekend. [Penguins.com]

Per [LGP] here is the schedule:

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
1:30pm Practice @ Southpointe

Thursday, September 11, 2008
11:00am Practice @ Southpointe

Friday, September 12, 2008
11:00am Practice @ Southpointe

:: On that same note, [Faceoff Factor] says this year is huge for Keven Veilleux.

:: You didn't get this info from us:

NHL '09 should be in stores by Wednesday.

Big ups to the boys running our [TeamPensblog] blog.

If you signed up for both our XBOX 360 & PS3, teams check there for all details on games and shit.

Thanks to [Bill R]

Boston...more than a feeling.

Solid two years.

Can't wait to tell you guys the same thing on 9/9/10.

But hopefully after back-to-back cups.

Way to do this shit.

Happy Birthday Pensblog!

My wife's birthday was yesterday, but somehow this is more monumental.

Does this mean I have to take you out to dinner so we can have some "us time" because that's all you want for your birthday?

brndlynn said...

Happy Birthday guys! 2 years is quite impressive but Im looking forward to many more.

hossa in detroit red = vomit indeed.

DrunkArmyFan said...

Happy Birthday!
Thanks for the video. Watching that guys' tits jiggle made me asexual.

shawnawwwesome said...

...and you smell like one, too.

In other news:

Mike Therrien can't figure out why they don't mow Heinz Field between quarters.

christina said...

happy birthday guys!!

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

Happy birthday guys. Here's to many more.

Anyone else notice that Conks is still wearing his Penguins pants in that picture?

And "South Detroit" is Windsor, Ontario. Detroit is the only American city where one can look south into Canada.

JP said...

Congrats on turning two, fellas.

Hopefully Charlie takes y'all out on the town to celebrate.

dying alive said...

Happy second birthday, tPB. You've squeezed a lot of jobbing into two years. You should have had a free-for-all photoshop expo to celebrate. I'm still bitter about missing the Gretzky one.

11 days 'til the first pre-season game.

xuscbausp said...

happy birthday tpb. now go drink until you can't feel feelings anymore

Dan said...

tom brady does have bitch tits. that is an accurate portrayal.

personally, i changed the lyrics to "born and raised in FUCK detroit!" i usually sing it with my finger in the air too. it's caught on with a few people.

Mmmmmmm cake.

Happy Birthday Pensblog! You provided me with countless laughs over the years... in a good way.

LOLgwins said...

you shouldn't be hating "don't stop believing" because of a detroit reference rather you should hate it for being crappy and overplayed.

KaylaJ said...

the flavor of cake is men, or chocolate if you catch my drift

and yeah, i threw up a bit in my mouth reading and seeing hossa. but i felt much better seeing prospects are reporting

in the end, happy birthday pensblog, in dog years you're almost legal!

DrunkArmyFan said...

Would a score of 82-0 be considered a blowout?

J.S. said...

drunkarmyfan, if it's against Detroit, no.

DrunkArmyFan said...

I just can't believe that's not a record. I thought it was a typo at first.

I'm guessing Hossa is getting familiar with his new position in Detroit, that position being down on his knee(s).

I'm sure he had practice in Ottawa.

J.S. said...

Tampa Bay interested in Sundin?

The Oren and Lennie Show = Best. Comedy. EVAR!!!!

Rick M. said...

Conklin also still has his Penguins-design helmet. I guess he didn't have time to prepare a Red Wings one since early July.

Look at Hossa. He's so tempted to bash the helmet with his stick.

dying alive said...

Don't they have a mercy rule like they do in softball?

shawnawwwesome said...

@armyfan - I saw that 82-0 link, I couldn't believe it either...

Raleigh's local ABC station is on channel 11??? And that's where their "Eyewitness News" is??? Crazy stuff.

neilWorldorder said...

Conkin is wearing his pens shorts in that picture with Hossa

For anyone who was invited to the Tampa Bay preseason event on Facebook forever ago, get on there and check your messages! Tickets are going fast!

Antonette said...

Thanks for the heads up about Penguins tickets in Columbus. Being as that's where I'm based out of, that is a lifesaver.

Good years, PensBlog. I've been here for the majority of them (remember selling Whitney for cattle?) and it still basically kicks ass.

slush said...

Happy 2 Years! Lets hope there are many, many more to come.

TheFandangler said...

Per TSN...

Tampa has interest in Mats Sundin.

...I guess the show must go on.

J.S. said...

I don't know what is the most impressive thing about that 82-0 blowout.

- the 6 page box score
- that two players on Slovakia finished with 2 pts or less. One player finished with ZERO.
- the +28 that Martina Velikova finished with. Usually a +28 in a season makes you Selke eligible.
- the -34 to -39 that everybody from Bulgaria finished with
- the stat line of Anna Dzurnakova: 3 goals, 11 assists, 4 SOG, +23, and 35 PIMs.
or probably the most or least impressive, depending on how you look at it...
- the number of shots produced by Bulgaria: 0. None. The big bagel.

Box score in PDF format.

Ali said...

Happy Birthday Pensblog!!!

DrunkArmyFan said...

I just noticed there were more than twice as many goals (82) as there were spectators (37).

dying alive said...

Tampa has interest in Mats Sundin.

They're trying a new strategy this year...nothing but forwards.

DrunkArmyFan said...

I guess higher scoring games won't bring the casual fan around to hockey.

dying alive said...

Oh, and to get caught up with yesterday...

DA is obviously talking about WHOOMP There It Is.

The first song that actually came to mind was that Daisy Dukes song. I can't remember who sang it, but hopefully the earth swallowed them. The second song was Rumpshaker by none other than Wrex-N-Effex. Did I spell that right? I guess it doesn't matter.

Kudos to whoever mentioned Simon & Garfunkel, the world's first indie band. Laugh at their lameness all you want, but I challenge anyone to listen to The Boxer and not shed a tear.

akus said...

Looking at some of the penalties called,
..... delay of game, the only time Bulgaria may have touched the puck.

TWO! Empty net goals! Did they pull the goalie or just pack up and leave? On second thought, 82-0, means they never showed up. Period.

Perhaps they scored those in honor of tPB Birthday.

Hossa says,"I don't care. People can say what they want,"

fleuryous said...

Happy Birfday, Pensblog.

You gotta naked Penguin in that cake?

I love your work < 333.

And I'm not being devil's advocate, but Hossa really doesn't look good in red.

and about that Hossa link, does he ACTUALLY feel at home? He hasn't had a "team," I don't believe. Hossa will play with them this year, and then they may or may not dispose of him. A one-year contract? Ridic.

Okay, I'm done...for now.

I'm SO EXCITED FOR 9/20!!!!!!!!!!!

Julia said...

Happy Birthday Pensblog =]

fleuryous said...

PS. I hope Gill oooooowns him like he did Holstrom last year.

Oooooh, karma.

J.S. said...

Daisy Dukes was done by Deuce, and I want to say that Daisy Dukes had some sort of odd spelling to it. So I take back what I said yesterday. Although P-Diddy has released a catalog of suckage over the last 10+ years, Duice's one song (did they release a 2nd?) may have topped it.

dying alive said...

Meh, good riddance to Hossa. I knew he wouldn't be back, and he likely won't play more than a season in Detroit unless they repeat this year.

apartment hunting in metro Detroit

Soooo much potential for sarcasm there, but I'll control myself.

J.S. said...

oh wait, I have official spellings:

the group is called Duice, and the song was spelled Dazzey Duks

Is it possible that we can blame Duice for the root of intentionally misspelled words in music?

TheFandangler said...

Let's celebrate...

TheNWChica said...

Happy birfday boys! Thank you for being so welcoming to even WestCoast noobs to the Pens Nation and especially those of the female variety.

Tampa has interest in Mats Sundin.

God I hope so...Vancouver fans would love it if they took him. We're tired of hearing about his stupid ass!

Red Wing FAN Fest.

Looking at the pictures i can see why they called it FAN.
Where is everyone?

-Yzerman looks like the only player who showed up.

- USA flag pants/Wings jersey.Very disturbing.

I just read an article the other day that claims Wings season tickets are "up" from last year, though they don't say how much.
They did blame the economy for the lack of sell-outs.Yawn.

hard to believe it will only be shut down for two days.
I left Pittsburgh 20 years ago and the same old shit( re:road construction)is true 20 years later.

(Troy Hill, my old partying hang out )

Go Pens.

Happy Birthday tPB! Now for the Terrible Twos!

Congrats on the big number 2!

Great find on that Blue Jackets sale offer.

Seriously, you all should go. I am currently going with a group of 27 people!

Lets rock the joint.

They're trying a new strategy this year...nothing but forwards.

Don't you know that defense is for losers? Playing defense is just Jacques Lemaire boring loser hockey.

Rick M. said...

It's okay guys. I just got NHL 2K9 for Wii and immediately decked Hossa with Eaton and Orpik.

All is fine now.

Zach said...

im not reading through all these comments, but was i the only one who noticed conklin still has his penguins colors on his helmet?
