Miracle In Water

France's men's swimming relay team was talking smack:

"We Are Going To Smash [ The U.S. ].
That's What We Are Here For."

Going into the last 50 meters, they were owning the race, by all swimming standards.
American dude roars back and beats the French by .08 of a second.

Paraphrasing:

NBC Announcer: "The U.S. has won!"

Cut to shot of French team.

NBC Announcer: "Stunned!"

I've been impressed by the number of times that the announcers have said stunned during the Olympics.

If Samuel L. Jackson dies, a piece of me will die with him.

Thank God Morgan Freeman ended up being okay.

Don't speak of Samuel Jackson like that ... he is Gary Roberts like. He could fight off death. Pitt Hockey, first you remind me of Newman's condition (my fav. actor) and then trying to bring me down with Samuel L. talk ... dang.

Phelps never lets me down, and watch Bernard nearly cry in the pool makes me a happy person. Bernard is Phelps's bitch, now. *laughs*

SHAMWOW!

Flyer Hater said...

brnd, we invaded France. We're taking Paris tomorrow.

brndlynn said...

thanks sh0ez. that clears everyting up.

Brndilynn: Swimming history was made. It is probably the biggest moment to happen in swimming history. Phelps had a nice start. But we were getting behind France and the Aussies. We took over the Aussie's and in the last stretch. Lezak (often criticize for lackluster performances in the Olympics) is against Bernard who said the French were going to "smash" us. Bernard is edging Lezak, he's nearly a half a body length ahead and Lezak just focuses in as Bernard tightens up. He closes in on the Bernard and then wins it. Just awesome. Eat it, Rome, for saying nothing big will happen!

brndlynn said...

thank you for the play-bt-play ihk! i will look for the replays tomorrow. im guessing france had great stunned faces?

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@Flyer Hater: There goes what Bush said about being diplomatic during the Olympics *laughs*

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@brandi: Stunned doesn't depict it. Bernard definitely was crying *laughs manically*

Brandi -

Frenchman Alain Bernard swims the anchor leg of France's men's 4x100 freestyle relay. They were considered the favorites heading into the finals of the event tonight, and Bernard spouted off yesterday that the French team would "smash the US team", despite the presence of Michael Phelps swimming the lead leg of the race for the US team (and thus derail Phelps's hopes of eight gold medals in a single Olympic Games).

Phelps ran a strong first leg, but France pulled back ahead over the middle two legs and then handed the final leg of the race off to Bernard, who is 6'5" and held the freestyle 100-meters record.

Jason Lezak swam the anchor leg for the US team and was about almost a full body length behind Bernard in second place. Lezak made up the difference with an absolutely unreal sprint over the last 25 meters and beat Bernard to the wall by what amounted to eight hundredths of a second.

In other words, Bernard talked a bunch of shit before the relay tonight and he was the one who gagged away France's win at the end, taking nothing away from Lezak's effort, which was pretty much superhuman.

@brndilynn: No problem ... they might not have replays of it on youtube by now *laughs* but check nbcolympics.com and see if they have it on there ...

I'm going to head off and have dreams of this moment as I sleep ... amazing ...

I started watching the race thinking to myself..."competitive swimming, that's a little gay". The last two legs of the race I was just saying..."Holy shit ass". and then proceeded to make "suck it" motions at my TV whenever they showed the cheese and wine team.

Haha! We are behind on the WC so it's coming up right now but it's nice to know we took France's comments and shoved them back in their face.

IHK, it's long overdue. Just because they basically won our independence, those bastards think they can do whatever. Well, it's time to take a stand goddammit.

Even before the announcer said it, I thought of The Pensblog. That was an ultimate stunned moment (and I couldn't be happier to see it happen to the Frenchie douche)
