We're still wrapping our heads around the possibility of not seeing 19 on the ice until near the All-Star break. If anything it means you'll be reading Goligoski's name here more often.
Whit's a top notched d-man, but he's more important to us in the spring than he is in the fall.

It came down to the last half stroke, but Phelps picked up gold medal number 7 by a hundredth of a second over Serbia's Milorad Cavic.
The Serbian team filed a protest for a reviewal, but accepted the decision when the review confirmed Phelps win.
The 7th gold medal ties the record for the most in a single Olympics. He'll go for number 8 tonight in the 4x100 medley relay.
A Swedish wrestler left his bronze medal on the mat to protest a penalty call that left him out of the gold medal match.
The IoC decided since he wasn't all too attached to it, they'd strip him of it.
All business.

If we were to make that medal count a mile long you'd notice that Canada finally picked up some hardware.
Yeah, and Creed won a Grammy in '01. Doesn't change the fact that they suck.

Good times, love the olympics
Who the hell wants a bronze medal anyway?
Was on call last night and didn't get to watch the race live... (damn you old man desatting to the 80s...)
But seriously, in the history of stunned, has there ever been a better face that that of Phelps' mom?
PS - Cavic handled himself very well after that race. Smiled at the medal ceremony and didn't press the issue.
Good for him.
Phelps' mom is just weird.
Phelps' mommy is still too surprised when he wins. It's expected.
phelps' mom looks like ginny sak (sopranos).
anyway, that dude from sweden got robbed. f italy.
I don't know about other parts of Mellon Arena, but the loss of Whitney means that my section will be scrambling to find another skategoat to scream at.
Potential Pens scapegoats:
1. Satan
2. Orpik
3. Letang
4. Fleury
5. Dupuis
Don't forget Sydor.
With Ry Ry out indefinitely....
The Penguins will not qualify to partake in any post season games in 2009.
Top Whipping Boy replacements:
Scuderi
Sydor
Gonchar
Orpik
TANK
Satan
Pesonen

Mikey + Big Bob
Vince
I KNOW a certain First Family of Hockey in E18 that will need to find a replacement to their incessant scream of:
GET OFF THE ICE, __________ !!!!!!
Oh and Staal. Because apparently if he doesn't score 10 goals every game he sucks.
Eileen you prove a point. Everyone is on Staal because he doesn't score. That's why he has his place on the team by being a shut down center. I don't think he should get too many more opportunities to be a top line guy. He's a good defensive center and that's all I see him being on this team. He can't play wing... I'm not sure if I'm the only one that remembers that. Staal has a modest shot and can't really play the "play-making" role. I'm happy if he has another solid third line / PK domination year. If I'm thinking Selke trophy at the end of the year he was better than expected.
Satan. Book it.
Damn, people are ripping Mom Phelps a new one. I give her all the credit in the world.
Gronk will definitely have several Selkes by the end of his career.
fandan...
he's not even 20 years old yet...

Jesus H....give the kid a break!
hip...
that's the youth of the US of Whatever talking.
Mommy Phelps is awesome, in my book.
I liked Staal better this year than last. I mean I was glad to see him score his rookie season but his physical and defensive game was so much better. He'll "evolve" (sorry that was very lame of me) into a better player over time.
Phelps is a Mommy's boy and I respect that (to a certain degree.) His mom has the right to be excited and scared and shocked. Her son is a big part of her life, and he is competing on the highest level possible for not only gold and money from sponsorship but history. I would be hyper-ventilating if my child was on the highest level and competing. It's definitely better than those parents who scream and yell at refs, umps, and other parents.
I wasn't trying to bash Mama Phelps, sheesh.
Eileen, I didn't mean it to be directed towards you. I was just backing up Hip's statement.
It's cool ihk, my comment wasn't directed towards you anyway.
"Satan. Book it."
Agreed, if he doesn't look like Alexander Mogilny in the 1992-93 season, he sucks.
Dr. Turk:
I know he's only 20. Look how good he is in the defensive zone. I say exploit that early talent and develop it as much as humanly possible. We have top 1 & 2 guys and we have the ability to grow the best num. 3 in the game. The reason I said it like that is because he's too good at the defensive end of the game and that should be his and the teams focal point. The offensive side will come over time and him chipping in 20 or so goals would be perfect. In the meantime though I say he'll continue to be exactly what he's been... A great defensive forward with sky high potential. He's the type of player that you need to win championships.
I'm sure people will be right here, telling us how much he sucks, imploring us not to jump off bridges and such.

Staal is so awesome defensively that he was a -5 last year.
FH:
His line can be better...

How could the Allman brothers win best instrumental song on back to back years with the same song, especially if it was a song that was released 20+ years prior?

touche on the canada comments. You have Canadian fans of this blog! We'll pwn the US in the Winter games. And, lets not forget where Sid, Jordo, MAF, etc hail from.
But hey i guess you have to milk the few things you're better at for all they're worth eh?
@fandang -staal cant play wing? i think hes smarter than that. lets hope HCMT gives him a chance.
he should move up, taking malones spot. hes big enough to do it. his talent is 2-way and we need to test it there. i dont think its hurting detoilet that they potentially have zitterberg datsucks and traitossa on a line-only 3 of the greatest defensive offensemen last year. we need more of that higher up in our lineup. we can find enough of other shutdown guys to fill out line 3.
A lotta good alternatives to Whitney for fall guy listed above. However, the boys in D23 pride themselves on loyalty to a player. Frankly, I'm not sure how readily they'll accept someone new.
Hell, Lang had been a Cap for almost two months before the section finally stopped yelling for the Pens to pull him off the ice.
Just saw the news on Whitney. I work for a company that makes those "drywall screws" as you guys call them and a lot of the time if someone (either an athlete or a celebrity) uses our products, we see an email come out about it. I'll have to keep my eyes out for it.
with aaaaurms widopen.
@eileen - I just like to say "ripping a new one" as much as possible. I didn't mean to offend you with my comment. We share a name- I got your back!!
On call again tomorrow so I've got to get to bed now. Go USA. Go Phelps.
anyone who sings creed should be punished
Nick Aisidiaidiasaaiaia with possibly one of the best and worst comments ever.
Best because it is funny.
Worst because now I have that hideous song stuck in my head.
Another gem...
"...Ohm six feet frohm theh edge and I'm blah blah."
Vomit.
so. . .my house is all business with the olympics right now. being home alone helps!
Jason Lezak = BEAST
wooooooooooo
USA Men's swimming = Amazing!!
Phelps, Perisol, Hansen, and even Lezak are beasts.
glad that's over. i kept waiting for nbc to jinx him by saying "they're not expected to do anything"
First thing Phelps says to his teammates is "I couldn't have done it without you."
Better than any Visa commercial narrated by Morgan Freeman, by far.
PHELPS = BEAST
eight is great!
Amazing race USA! Congrats to Phelps!!
Canadian Ryan Cochrane bronze in 1500m, gives us 4 medals today!
as much as i complain about some hockey announcers, i'm just glad none of them are bob costas.
Phelps won, I haven't been this excited since I went down to the local YMCA and finished 3rd in the Connect Four tournament.
i guess the word LIVE means nothing on the west coast.
We're good hip =)
So I was pretty excited when I heard the news that Whit would be out.. I just don't like him.
Thanks Pete. I agree - they gotta job us when the opportunity presents because opportunities are few and far between. I'm still proud of all of Canada's athletes.
FH: did you get 3rd pick from the lost & found bin?
I don't remember saying anything bad about Canada. I love Canada, they gave us half of our team. But you cannot deny how well the US is doing in the Olympics.
New post, people.
Eileen, I think they are referring to the staffs comments lately (there have been a few jobs).
Team USA has been kicking ass at the Olympics, but do you (not you Eileen) really need to make fun of people "lesser" then you to make you feel more important.
You know it's bad when Fark makes fun of Canada and it's medal count.
