One of the great things about being from Pittsburgh is listening to needless reports about the Steelers at training camp.
ESPN 1250 actually broke into scheduled program today to announce Big Ben's urine was a little yellow.
One big Steeler stories going into camp was that Casey Hampton was out of shape.
Normally we could care less.
But you will see in a moment what is funny about that.
[Curto] emailed us some interesting pictures of Hampton not exactly working out.
We have a policy of not posting pictures of penguin players outside of Rink in their personal lives.
It doesn't apply to the Steelers:

Least he supports the Pens.
Hampton is probably our favorite player.

Game # 41

[ Conkblock. PENS WIN ]
3 - 0
The opening pan of Mellon Arena showed more than a few empty seats.
Those are Steeler fans tailgating.
And those may be some poor souls who didn't know the game was switched to 3:00.
.........................
FIRST PERIOD
After some business, Tyler Kennedy-Staal-Malone connect.
We didn't see the Kennedy goal straight-up because they switched to the camera down on the boards, but it was all right 'cause we saw the fan reaction.
[Ben Cole]
1-0.
1-0.
The Pens picked up right where they left off the other night.
Sid comes in, jobs, gets it to Whitney. Rebound out to Malkin.
2-0.
The Panthers had a couple chances, but no dice.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
SECOND PERIOD
A couple minutes into the second, ConkBlock City came center stage with some solid saves
after some homeowner drove to the cage.
after some homeowner drove to the cage.
The last two minutes had the Pens getting some chances, but nothing.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
THIRD PERIOD
The Panthers realized they couldn't keep their chokehold on the game of ice hockey if they wanted to tie the game up, so the third period started with some wide-open hockey.
As the game hit the homestretch, Errey almost blurted out the magic word.
He knew what he was doing.
Immediately afterward, David Wilkes Booth had a golden chance to beat Conk, you know what this is about.
Conk walks into a bar.
Jobs some dude talking to a girl.
Takes the girl home.
The game was disappearing fast.
Then Bing hit Army on a breakaway. Army farts.
Sid steals the puck, to Malkin, back to Bing.
The clock runs out.
Game.
Sickening.

"Pittsburgh has a great team, great people, great organization. I had to compare the two teams, and there's a little better chance to win the Cup in Detroit. I had a great time with Sid and playing on the power play with Geno [Evgeni Malkin], but the team in Detroit is something special. I know it's a short term, but we never talked about a one-year [deal] with Pittsburgh. We just talked about a long-term deal. I totally believe Detroit has the kind of team that can win it again."

Happy Twenty FIRST Birthday, Sidney!
And I am the second to wish Sid a Happy Birthday!!!
Happy BirFday Wiz. I agree with you...
Philadelphia is a city of ass-pounders.
@Turk -how long have you been waiting to say that. haha nice one though.
happy bday sid.. something something fourth.
I know this is a hockey blog, but...
One of the most memorable Steelers moments in my college career (ie, the past four years) is of Casey Hampton. This ranks even above randle el being the super bowl winning qb. It was during a game like 3 or 4 years ago, regular season, against the Jags. There was a qb sack and Keenan from goodburger fumbled. Casey Hampton, instead of just falling on the ball, bends over to try to get his sausage paws wrapped around it, and some dude just pushes him over from behind. I swear, watching Hampton's fat ass topple over as his hands flailed for the ball as it bounced between his legs is one of the most comedic memories i'll ever have.
i forgot to mention one terrible towel at the bucco game. i think that was the no-hit jinx.
To_Tase_A_Predator (@5:10)
May I be the SEVENTH to wish Sid happy birthday?
(Eh, lameblog. Whatev.)
Great post guys. Those motivator pics are amazing. *blushes humble-y*
5:10 am and I can't sleep. Maybe I'll just stay up all friggin night and go to bed early.
happy.... oh.
Happy Birthday Steve. I'll do a shot of Crown (uck) or Jack D (double uck) in your name tonight.
Check out the ass on that chick on the Casey Hampton photos. "Smokin'"
Great motivators...CLASS is awesome, btw...nice job!
Dammit. I didn't sleep a wink last night, and ended up watching Emperor's New Groove at 6 am. That's the last time I eat coffee ice cream before bed.
Sorry for the inane posts this morning, but there's really nothing else happening.
Um... top 10 Buries It moments?
Wow, no love for Stephen S. coming in second place in Puck Daddy's photoshop contest in the post today.
Sid, drinks are on me.
That chick's ass is amazing.
Steller Post Fellas, good to see you're not letting yourself go in the off-season (see Hampton, Casey).
Happy Birthday, Bing. Now you can legally drink champagne out of the Cup no matter where you win it.
It's my birthday too.
happy birfday sid
also nice to read a sports blog where the name "brett favre" isnt mentioned
that stupid bitch did jinx the pens... if crosby comes to your house, just give him the benefit of the doubt
There was really bacon grease in those cups Hampton was playing beer pong with...
Anyone else notice that Casey Hampton's head is the size of a Volkswagon??
I loves me some motivational posters.
This football news article in which the guy moved from one team wearing green to another, I haven't seen more disruption of the work day routine due to watercooler discussion since 9/11.
too soon?
Happy Birfday Steve!
@ paul
The best Casey Hampton moment was during the superbowl run against the colts. Casey broke through the line and actually chased down Manning. Just watching him run 15 yards after someone half his size was funny as hell. He took off like a fat kid that just missed the icecream truck.
The Nedved video should be posted everyday.
hey cblog- I haven't been around since before FA days. I hope everyone is having a good summer.
May I say that Keith Jones is still an incredible douche? No wonder he was a Crapital.
Happy Birthday 21st Sid! My Toast to You
The torch of unfunniness has been passed from Free Candy to the new motivational posters.
so i'm sitting here wondering what i used to do before facebook and thepensblog.
sid, even if you never see this, happy birthday dude.
Ken Wregget=Beast
fh has been smoking dryer lint
It's rumored that Ken Wregget f'ed your mom in 95'. He had nothing else to do before the short season started.
Headline in the Steelers Quick Hits section:
Rocket Rashard.
VOMIT. Population of Montreal collectivly pukes and Maurice Richard rolls over in his grave.
Also. Casey Hampton=Money.
Dude's there to BE fat. Why's he got to run 100 yards anyway? That's what the fast people are for.
Tomlin=Dumb.
HCMT would have given Big Casey a sandwich instead of a telling to.
"Headline in the Steelers Quick Hits section:
Rocket Rashard.
VOMIT. Population of Montreal collectivly pukes and Maurice Richard rolls over in his grave."
Commence suicide now.
-1 to the staff for not posting the Mike Lange version of the Nedved goal.
damn fh, what's with all the hate today?
+1 to Staff for posting SOMETHING with Gary Thorne.
Ahhh...the glory days of televised hockey, when there were fighting hockey robots on fox, ESPN 2 was basically the hockey network and NHL2Night existed...
As a fluffy girl myself, Casey doesn't need to run...he's got people to do that for him. ;)
Woo hoo, my pics are front page news on tPB.
Happy Birthday Sid.
Rocket Rashard?
epicfail
please don't let that name stick, please don't let that name stick...
Was that game locally televised with Lange on the call? The version I have on the DVD set is the ESPN2 broadcast with Steve Levy doing PBP.
And by and large, the DVD set has the local broadcast where it was actually available.
Does anyone know how much the river fairies are from Station Square to the Stadiums?
Hossa's wiki page is kind of funny
Pops, the game was done locally...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLdh2yxXg7I
And it's not true that they always use the local broadcast because Lange and Edzo did the 7th game against Buffalo but they used ESPN's broadcast with Thorne.
at least big snack has a superbowl championship.
Duly noted, FH.
Joe Reek(ie)s like balls.
The girl playing beer pong with Casey = best shape of her life.
Happy Birthday Sid :)

Newscastor from Winter In the Sun Game #40 (from a few posts ago) > beer pong girl
Last night I was watching my friend Michelle get extremely drunk for her 21st. . .should have taken a shot for Sid. Oh well. . .there is still time for that, haha.

watching the crosby goals i wonder if theodore's water bottle will land before he gets to washington for training camp
I looked and looked, but couldn't find the ass on beerpong girl. It's a 6 o'clock butt, straight up, straight down.
Dead people don't care who uses their old nicknames.
An hour between two consecutive posts, amazing.
Funniest thing regarding the Favre trade was hearing Frank Caliendo on DVE singing "Hey iiii, Hey iiii, my Brett Favre's back!" to "My Boyfriend's Back" as John Madden.
No one pointed out the irony of a newspaper media member compiling a list of top blogs, yet only giving a shitlist of the worst ones. It was a diabolical scheme.
Groundbreaking on Mario Lemieux Arena at Badger Bob Place is next thursday.
I'm glad Favre came back. I still haven't fulfilled my dream of watching that bastard cry in agony on national tv.

Puck Daddy chatted with Chris Snow, not Chris Simon, lol.
Happy Birthday to Crosby! I hope turning 21 motivates him to score like, 200pts. this season. Go Pens!
@ Jefe, not funny or original
"Puckbunny Palace?"
Eileen to write a 15 page essay on how you're an idiot in 3... 2... 1...
Puckbunny Palace would be anywhere Talbot hangs his hat i'd reckon. Yeah, i said reckon.
Mario Lemieux Gardens sounds too botanical.
"Mario Lemieux Gardens sounds too botanical."
Maple Leafs Garden FTL?
max, the filthy flyers or filthy in general?
It was on the flyers page. The first line read "A team of assholes for a city of assholes. GO CAPS!" Despite hating the Caps it was still funny to see. I added a photo shop of Hatcher in a dress. I'm very bored at work. It was removed within 5 minutes.
The extension "sets the stage for what is expected to be keen bidding for the rights to the new arena." SportsCorp President Marc Ganis said that a deal for the Penguins' new arena "could range anywhere from [$3-8M] a year." BNY Mellon "has the right of first refusal to the naming rights to the new arena". [PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/20]
Mellon would be shamCrazy to give up the naming rights...no matter the cost.
BNY Mellon Center
aka: The Vault
dr. t always kicking some science
puckbunny palace is somewhere i would hang my hat
I don't care what the new name is, the name is and will always be The Civic Arena.
I always thought Casey Hampton looked like Mr. Potato Head.

I missed you all!! *gushes* Monday up until now at my camp w/o electricity in the woods on a mountain top = not fun.
How come all this love for Sid, and Geno's birthday wasn't that long ago? No love for Russians? (P.S. Happy Birthday, Sid, even thought I find it highly unlikely that you would be reading this)
Sorry about Bubba, Staff. Cats are the best animals ... they practically take care of themselves and are always there when you need 'em. I still miss my deceased cats.
Brett Favre is officially off my like list ... bastard.
Casey Hampton is pretty cool at hockey games ... he knows what's going on ... he's not stupid, just heavy, which is what he should be considering his position (but losing some weight is necessary, dear)
Steelers pre-season game tom. and the start of the Olympics .... WOOOO!!! Summer is not going to be as boring ... but I want my hockey back.
I remember this game because it was the day after my birthday. I saw TK at Nakama that night and told him good job on the goal. I guess he didn't hear me haha.
Happy Birthday Sid!

@ Flyer Hater: The Black & Gold, of course.

By the way flyer hater, I actually think Puckbunny Palace is pretty amusing.
if i knew everyone was sending in their motivational pics, i would've chipped in, but here's one
thanks to JS for putting this on another board since i was lazy and didn't save it anywhere on my PC>
@Flyer Hater: Hmm ... maybe the red and black. I don't like the white ones, so I narrowed it down ... I would choose the yellow and black over the red ones but I don't know your wardrobe ... do you have enough clothes that match the yellow/black? If so go with them.
I did a nice edit of the Cryers wiki page. I think I'm going to do that all night for other teams.
and the AHL FINALLY breaks out its schedule this season and on Halloween i'll be at the AT&T Center down the road to watch the Rampage vs WBS Pens!
Please stop your disruptive editing, such as the edit you made to Philadelphia Flyers. If your vandalism continues, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.
Mwahaha.
Eileen, like 5 minutes ago I just erased the entire page and wrote, "BRIERE LIKES MEN"
It was up for a good 3 refreshes.
I don't understand why they delete facts.
Ooh, I might just have to go see the Baby Pens when they play in Hartford on Jan 24...
I'll get to see the Baby Pens when they play my home team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, on November 21st. I've got season duckets so I'll be there and can give you an early season report.
I wouldn't say Big Case has a head like a Volkswagen.
Now if you said his head looked like a bowling ball, I'd agree. I've never seen a head so big and perfectly round.
seriously, the new Gore pics? solid.
I broke the Big Snack story first. I'm taking credit.
apparently wiki didn't like me adding that #81, P.B. Charlie signed on as a center to Philly's roster. What do they mean "no such player"? There's pics of him in NHL 09. I saw it with my own eyes.
Kanata, Ottawa = fail, but I couldn't go back and edit it to Ontario in time. Oh well, it lasted 8 min.
flashblaog just boned me.
Sick.
FlyingLoather, Maple Leaf Gardens sounds like a place full of despair, where throngs of people wallow in their sorrows...
I could be wrong, but I think jobbing wiki may have been one of the first jobs on thePensblog. Never gets old.
I WILL climb the inevitable Lemieux statue that will be outside the new arena, like a kid on daddy's shoulders at the amusement park.
"I don't care what the new name is, the name is and will always be The Civic Arena."
Fuck yes.
Wiki Flyers
Every time I've mentioned the arena here, I called it the Civic Arena. She's a grand old opera house. *Raises a glass...*

Stoosh is the only one I've seen make funny motivational posters. The Lindros and Cherry ones are gold.
It would be totally badass if we COULD name the new arena after Buries It or just call it Civic Arena again, but corporate sponsorship of sports arenas is way too lucrative. The only reason Detroit's arena is still named after an athlete is because modern civilization is too scared to expand within the city limits.
I understand that teams like the Pens and most others have to get corporate sponsorships because of economics but the Leafs should always be playing in Maple Leafs Gardens, the Habs should always be playing at the Forum, and the Bruins should always be playing at the Boston Garden, not the TD BankNorth Garden.
Barf.

Hill District nears benefits agreement
There still is one person not satisfied with the agreement...could it beeeee?..hmmmm I don't knowwww...Jobber of the week?!?
State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Hill District, said he doesn't believe the Penguins put "anything significant" in the deal. He also complained that negotiators failed to get any commitment for development in the Hill above the 28-acre Mellon Arena site.
Jake Wheatley would win a Casey Hampton look-a-like contest.
