For the record I was being quite facetious when I suggested Scuds cap his was 3 bucks, not 3 mil.

I would just feel better if we had a jobber guy down in WBS like Nas last year who could come up if need be.

I think he problem with waiting for an injury and then making a move is that sometimes you get held hostage and have to overpay for someone.

Just a thought.

Staff is on their game with back to back firsts. Unreal.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

It's going to be hard keeping Sydor and Scuds with salaries and such ... Sydor has the advantage of the NTC where Scuds doesn't which makes him more of a possibility of leaving ... do we really need to get rid of them though? What if someone does get injured and a player isn't performing to his level? I know they are costly, though ... why did we do NTC w/ Syd anyways? I guess, he can perform better next year ... he wasn't that bad this year and he could improve ...

Julia said...

Woo I'm wayy excited about NHL 09 probably more than any girl should be

I agree that Sydors value doesn't justify his 2.5m...right now.

But, if you trade him, Eats or anyone else goes down...the Pens 1st option in WB/S is: GoGo? with his 3 games of NHL experience?

Also,I'm not ready to ink Letang as being dressed for all 82 games, either. I hope he doesn't suffer thru the dreaded Sophomore Slump that seems to plague young d-man...

66 got me into hockey when I was 4
Paul Coffe turned me on to playing D
I really liked Zubov in a PENS jersey
Kasparitis back when he was a beast and murdered everything that moved
Jimmy Pak just because he was kind of a joke
Tommy B was a hard ass goalie and much respect for doing the babysitter and then getting stabbed in the leg by his wife for his sin
I could probably go on all day. I grew up during the back 2 back. I've been to over 200 games. I even got myself a PENS tattoo on my shoulder. If we won the cup this year I was going to get the cup tattooed on my other shoulder with all the years that we won/will win.

Max Power said...

I still sport my Kevin Stevens jersey with pride.

Colin said...

For me, I started watching hockey because of 66. He was just insane to watch, but I think I started playing hockey / goalie after watching "The Save" by Franky P.

"The Save" really did change my life.

I still have a black Pens "diagonal" jersey with "Naslund 29" on the back.

I was hoping he would come back so I could sport it.

Max Power said...

Hey everyone eriks back! My day is now complete!

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@Colin: Either that or our minds are focused on hockey and the Pens *laughs*

I think Mario Lemieux is going to be nearly everyone's answer of why they began to love the Pens and you can't blame them. Mario was my first hockey hero ... I liked the teams from the very early 90's but I don't remember them because I was born in 90. I think my transition from hockey fan to hockey lover was because of Darius Kasparaitis. I always loved defensemen, they will be my first love. They never get enough credit for anything and are always clutch. Kasparaitis was one of those players I always watched. I remember so much of my hockey love being focused on him and I remember always getting really excited when he hip-checked anyone. Plus, he was alittle bit of a bad-ass and I thought he was the coolest thing since Lemieux. His OT GWG against the Sabres sends chills up and down my spine; I remember doing the Penguin belly-flop after he did it and getting in trouble. Actually, I still do it, especially after a certain amazing win with Sykie scoring the goal to end it all. Kovi and Straka were really big to me too. I remember getting excited when Kovi was on the ice and me and my brother jumping up and down because we loved him. Straka was a beast.

@carroll: I'm a lover of Slap Shot until the end *smiles* Other movies I like are Remember the Titans and Miracle ...

Also, I heard that song ... it's awesome! I think I posted it a while ago here *tries to think back but memory is horrible*

And here I was thinking of just sticking with '08. What a fool am I.

I'm glad it looks like they added the delay of game penalty. I get tired of people playing online just shoveling the puck out of play to catch a breather. I imagine that if they added that, they probably have penalties after play dies momentarily. That means no more arbitrary slashes. Best thing to do after plays is whistled is skate over and slash away wildly at any opponent.

hockeyfan0012 said...

something i just noticed on nhl 08...if you go to "create a team" and go to pick the city they are located in, they have pittsburgh spelled wrong

Hey everyone eriks back! My day is now complete!

If it wasn't for the solid quality of the staff and their posts I would have been long gone.

The reason why everyone hates Penguins fans is because they behave like they're watching 'N Sync.

These "fans" are ready to discuss anything between, oh I don't know, teen pregnancies and making out with Malkin's translator. Said girls would never be fans of ice hockey if it wasn't for a certain Harbro collector by the name of Cindy.

TheNWChica said...

I know you're still talking because I can see your lips moving but all I hear is blah blah blah blah.

Carroll said...

sportsmovieblog - I also liked Slap Shot, Youngblood, Mighty Ducks (from when I was younger)Rudy and the fighting movie "Best of the Best" with Eric Roberts.

I never saw "Miracle". *ducks*

Erik - you are finally right about onething - Sid did bring hockey to the attention of many female "fans". However, you are wrong about the female fans on this site only being interested because of how "hot" the players are.

Carroll said...

@ihk - you might have posted the Sid song before. I know I got it from another site though.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@carroll: You need to see that movie ... but I pretty bad myself, I haven't seen Youngblood *hides*

Does it really surprise anyone that the person that influenced me in hockey is my screen name here or that Mario lemieux influenced me? Not really ... me = not dynamic with my hockey heroes ...

snickerdoodles said...

Today's top story:

Erik, the world famous commentor/hockey genius in C-Blog, was traded to the Washington Caps message board for: an old can of Clear Pepsi, a 1968 Timex watch that took a lickin and is no longer tickin, and a shoestring that Ovie may or may not have looked at. A can of Pringles was also offered, but some Cap fan had eaten them. The chips, not the can.

Sid did bring hockey to the attention of many female "fans". However, you are wrong about the female fans on this site only being interested because of how "hot" the players are.

Bullshit. The day Cindy comes down with a career ending injury you'll be long gone as quickly as you can count to three (sorry, make that one in your case). It's true and you know it.

TheNWChica said...

So, because Stevie retired and Shanny left is the reason there were so many fans dressed as empty seats at the Joe the last two seasons?

You "make fun" of us for not talking hockey so let's discuss some hockey.

What team do you support and what do you think of their offseason transactions?

I will be waiting for your intelligent answer.

Sorry to feed the troll but it's very slow in here today.

In the play below, please note that names have been changed to protect the identities of the characters.

Trouble on the Corner

Act 1: The Shiner

Scene: a cramped, fetid kitchen somewhere in the US of A.

Erok's Mom (Bea) and Erok enter.

Bea: Erok, honey, sit down. Let's eat now; I can't imagine where your father is.

Erok: What's for dinner, Ma?

Bea: Hot Pockets!

Erok: Oh boy, Hot Pockets!

(Door opens and Erok's father, Erok Sr., enters holding an ice bag to his face)

Bea: Oh my word, what happened?

Erok, Sr.: Ugh...I was ummm...waiting for the bus after ummm...work and ughhh...some guy wearing a Penguins jersey hit me in the face for absolutely no reason at all.

Erok: Hot Pockets!

...and...scene!

In Act 2, Bea discovers that a lot of her clothes are missing. And the clothes that aren’t missing are all stretched out and smell like Erok, Sr.

@raybin & ihk, I went skiing with Scottish friends a few years ago...we drove from Calais to Chamonix with a haggis rolling around under the driver's seat. When we arrived, they cooked it up, dumped whiskey on it, set it on fire, read a poem (Ode to a Haggis, I believe), and ate that bad boy.

I couldn't get past the color of the beast. It looked like the sun-cooked groundhogs you see on country roads this time of year here in the 717.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@M. Vanderlasser: The texture and color are probably the worst things about it ... the taste is okay but if your going to throw up, it's because of how it looks and feels ... a couple girls almost threw up when they saw it and one almost did when she took a first bite.

"Said girls would never be fans of ice hockey if it wasn't for a certain Harbro collector by the name of Cindy"

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that's not the reason I like hockey. Of course Crosby is phenomenal, but I actually don't find him as attractive as most girls do. I watch it for the huge energy of the game in general and the fact that our team plays with such heart and enthusiasm. Call that "gay" or what you will, but that's how I see it. I don't watch for the guys--and no, I don't munch the rug. I watch football and basketball, baseball sometimes, but none of them are as high-energy and exciting to watch as hockey, granted I do really enjoy watching them all.

Just my two cents.

And I really like the sports movies "Rudy" (yeah, sentimental, I know, but I love it), and Hoosiers. Both are SUCH great movies, because I like seeing underdogs getting their due...which is probably why I was so happy with the outcome of the Pens' hockey season this past year. WOO.

BTW, does anyone think we can reach a point where sports games get TOO realistic?

I mean, this new game puts a realistic emphasis on defense. Ok, but we play video games to ESCAPE reality.

I don't really want to play too much defense when I play video games. I just want to fire the puck on net 50,000 billion times and have final scores of like 7-4. The closest I want to come to defense in video game hockey is checking the crap out of guys.

It is for this reason that I felt the Blades of Steel that I downloaded from the Wii store was 10 times as fun as the NHL 08 that I bought for PS3.

Or you could just play "Rock the Rink" for PS1. That's my little gift to you sports video game players out there. Rock the Rink = best kept secret in hockey video games.

I don't even find sid attractive, but I'm bored so why not humor erik's sterotypical views.

somechic said...

I liked the classics. Like Blades of Steel on the old nintendo!

TheNWChica said...

@kaspar: #1 is my favorite. Hee hee!

Alright....I'm gonna blow this pop stand for a bit but shall return.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

BTW ... no one uses Bugsy ... he's my signature *smiles*

Which one should I use, though?

My friend has a Gronk icon because she adores him here here ... so someone could use that ...

*evil laugh* I love being a bitch! Wooo!

somechic said...

Then again, I'm a dork and Excite bike is one of my all time favorite videos games

Carroll said...

Excite Bike was probably one of my favorite games ever. EVER

Dan said...

for the nintendo lovers
enjoy

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@Dan: Your link doesn't work ...
And did Tony Little throw you over the top? *laughs*

I don't play a lot of sports games because I'd rather play the sport ... I play it and then look outside, don't finish the game, and go outside.

somechic said...

the only thing that could make it better is if tony little was shirtless haha

Carroll said...

ladies - just don't get upset when the men of cblog/staff bring back the puckbunny photo.

ihk - I think the one you are using now is great. I promise I will leave Bugsy for you. *smirks* I would rather have Sid!! I know I am currently showing Stamkos but that was because Eric said I would stop being a fan if Sid got hurt. So this is my next choice...

I will leave Geno for Sooska.

Nobody take Whit or Dr. Turk will get pissed!

Dan said...

oh no that website is gone, my life is over!!!!!!

me = fail

I Have Kasparaitis said...

Wait! Someone needs to use the Free Candy picture or this won't be complete as well as a picture of Mad Max and Geno ... *laughs*

@carroll: I'm trying to find a picture of Whit for Dr. Turk ... damn it, Whit, take it off for the sake of this and him!

stokes said...

I have a feeling after my last post, Free Candy, Whit and Talbot aren't gonna stay my friends on FB *laughs*

I'm going to swim for a while ... maybe I'll cool off a bit, I hate the humidity.

Carroll said...

"....so I will be driving like Ricky Bobby,Its my prerogative like Whitney’s Bobby,Im skating on Blades like Sidney Crosby”

I went to watch the Lil Wayne vid and it said it is no longer available. :(

erik, after countless posts that you have contributed here, i have not read ONE that you have been postive. Its all put down/negative/trash talking shit. If this blog gets Your ass uptight, WHY read it??? I seen the teen pregnancy/Malkin making out- talk also. It was at 1 in the morning, 3 or 4 people were talking, who cares what they were talking about. Its not like it was in the middle of a SCF game and the talk turned to that. If that bugs You so much, i pity you.
You say, You only return here because of the quality comments from the staff, it DOES NOT mean You have to post.
All you do is whinebitchwhinebitch, that makes you a whiny bitch.

On to better things!!! 87 days till hockey!!!

Sorry, but i like cake, probably because i can bake a mean cake, but suck at making pies.
If i am going to eat a cake/pie it will be homemade.

Hmmm, i got shoes older than Sid, so he is not the reason i started watching hockey. I watched the Pens when they wore blue/white. Had season tickets years ago. Seen the Syl Apps,Paul Baxter. Kehoe,Peter Lee. Pete Maholivich< is he still alive?> McSorley, Matt Millen,Orest Kindrachuk.

I bought a Pens shirt (#25) and wore it to the games. Kept stats and recorded each game, never missed listening/watching an away game.
Good Times.

I love "Remember The Titans" I cry each time i watch it.
"Radio" is another favorite.

Dungeness Crab and corn on the cob was on my dinner menu tonight.
Had Moose tracks ice cream with Cool Whip ( each time i say Cool Whip i think of Stewie on Family Guy)

Stewie Griffin: ooh, you've got some pie. Can I have a piece?
Brian Griffin: Uh, ok
Stewie Griffin: Hey, pass over some of that Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: What?
Stewie Griffin: Well, you put Cool wHip on pie.
Brian Griffin: It's Cool Whip
Stewie Griffin: That's what I said, Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Cool Whip
Stewie Griffin: Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Cool Whip
Stewie Griffin: Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Why are you putting so much emphasis on the H?
Stewie Griffin: What are you talking about? I'm just saying Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Say whip
Stewie Griffin: Whip
Brian Griffin: Now say Cool Whip
Stewie Griffin: Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Cool Whip!
Stewie Griffin: Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: Cool Whip!
Stewie Griffin: Cool wHip
Brian Griffin: You're eating HAIR!

Yeah, Dan! I am enjoying the shit out of it. except that i'm not that good without an actual Nintendo controller in my hand. or using my right hand for the D-pad instead of vice versa....

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@carroll: I'm glad you found the Talbot picture ... you have seen the Free Candy video where he's getting interviewed by Savran (made by Joose), haven't you?

Someone take a picture and upload it ...

Also, I decided he only looks creepy because of his hair if his team picture was like his other ones, he wouldn't have looked so bad ... that and a smile ...

@Stokes: It has Ninja Gaiden? *IHK is now leaving c-blog ...*

@akus: I mentioned bear claws because I'm craving them right now ... yum.

TheNWChica said...

Aw...Carroll took Maxie. If I can find Free Candy, I'll take that one.

I imagine I'm late on this, but how did Sergei Fedorov get a 1 yr 4 mil contract from Sweaty Teddy L?

I'm guessing he's blackmailing him with pics of a Teddy/Erik/shaved sheep three way.

My day was going pretty well and then I checked the message board. Nothing is more entertaining than Eric being jobbed repeatedly.

Perhaps that should be an intermission segment at the Igloo. Have Pens fans job Eric. Maybe have Penguins players throw some pies at him while everyone laughs.

Carroll said...

cyn- you add it in your blogger profile. Go to edit profile, photography - add photo from computer or web. Then select photo, then make sure to save changes to your profile at the bottom.

hope that helps.

akus said...

cynique You have to download an image/pic to Your computer than upload it to here.........

me=cavewoman and I CAN do it, so easy a cavewoman can do it

J.S. said...

cynique, click your name. It should take you to a seperate page. Towards the bottom of the page, there should be a listing for "change picture" or "change avatar".

Think the size limit is 150x150.

I might be wrong on the specifics, but I think I'm in the right ballpark.
