Cash Money

Not a whole lot going on.

We could post about a whole bunch of things.

But when a Rapper mentions Bing, you have to shut things down.

Lil' Wayne is "skating on blades like Sidney Crosby". [1:12 mark]
Which apparently is a reference to automobile tire rims.
Yeah, we speak jive.

Not quite on par with [ Gretzky's song ]

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Salary cap woes forced the Flyers hand in letting team captain Jason Smith walk out the door without so much as an offer. Smith signed a 2 year, $5.2 million deal with the Ottawa Senators.

The Flyers are over the cap ceiling by about a million dollars, but will get a break by placing injured defenseman Derian Hatcher and his $3.5 million dollar contract on the long-term IR.

::

With papa Bettman threatening to ground Brian Burke or Kevin Lowe if either throw any more verbal barbs, the biggest drama right now is the offersheet war between the Blues and Canucks. [ TSN ]

Last week the Canucks signed Blues RFA David Backes to an offersheet, which St. Louis quickly matched.

Yesterday the Blues responded, signing Steve Bernier to a $2.5 million offersheet. The Canucks matched the offer. Vancouver had acquired the rights to Bernier last week for draft picks.

Unfortuantley 'nucks GM Gillis says there's no ill will between the two front offices.
Thats not what a man with 6 Stanley Cup rings would say. Man up and protect your house.

At the very least insult the mans intelligence and/or franchise. If for no other reason than to see Bettman put on his Dr. Phil 'stache again.

::

[ Scott Burnside ] breaks down the entire Eastern Conference team by team. Solid read.
Or maybe we're just saying that because he says the Penguins are on the rise.

@max power

I just started a pretty big record photography project for a museum collection. It's a simple, almost bare-bones operation because I'm working on a limited budget and the pictures don't need to look professional, they are just for documentation purposes. All I'm using right now is 2 250w photoflood lamps and a Nikon D50 digital camera with an 18-55mm lens.

My question is, as far as my lighting, what would be the best type of bulb to use and what, if any, different kinds of bulbs can I use in my lamps? I was using tungsten incandescents and I was having trouble getting my colors right, it was giving them a yellow sheen. Is this my lights, or do I need to tweak my camera settings?

Like I said, I'm learning as I go, so any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. My email address in is my profile if you don't want to go through cblog. Erik might get pissed if we discuss anything other than the Penguins.

I'm shooting mostly objects. This collection spans a large scope of things from small coins and pendants to large pieces, including a few paintings and other framed pieces. For the most part, the lights are focused directly on the object via key anf fill lights, but I have experimented with redirecting it and diffusing it.

My main issue right now though is bulbs. I need make an order and I want to make sure I'm using the best ones for the job.

notreallyadilemmablog - fellow cbloggers, I need some advice on how to best deal with family members who are telling me I need to let go of Gary and remove my wristband, which I've been wearing since it arrived in the mail last Fall. It hasn't come off once -- not even for my cousin's wedding (that was an interesting argument with my mom).

My mom and sis are pestering me about it. I keep telling them that while it is partly not wanting to let go, the wristband actually signifies something more than simply the WWGRD phenomenom. It is a reminder of how special this past season was and I'm not at the point where I'm ready to say good-bye to the season. When the puck officially drops on the 2008-2009 season, that's when it will come off. I think that's reasonable, right?

Bulleted cblog time:

1. Burnside = Clown. Tampa trending up? Just because they overspent on Malone/Roberts/Recchi? Or is it because they replaced a decent coach (Torts) with Mullet behind the bench? How about what will turn out as the best signing (for only the first 40 games) in Vrbata? Or could it be because they signed a backup netminder who's so old that he won the Jennings with Moses?

2. Pie rules all. Cake is too dry, takes too long to make, and can easily be ruined.

3. Burgh-hater Joe at OffWing decried the WSJ positing Bing as the #1 NHLer by stating that Ovechkin was "the NHL's current superstar" of the league after winning a Hart and Art Ross. Oh yeah? Well, has the hottest rapper in the game mentioned Ovie in a reference to 24" rims? No. FAIL.

4. Another Washington FAIL = letting Cookie come to Pittsburgh, but keeping Fedorov. I coach the kids of a lot of Caps fans down here in MD (in fact, one of them gives me his tix sometimes--one row behind Pat Sajak). Nearly every one of them felt that Cooke was a great addition that would more than fill the role Pettinger left. Now who do they have to play tough alongside Matt Bradley and Boyd Gordon on the 3rd line?

4. I kinda like staff waiting until 9AM to post. That way I don't have 300 comments to catch up with when I get into work.

5. Flyers not keeping Jason Smith is going to haunt them. I just don't see that blue-line stopping the more talented offensive teams in the East like the Pens, Habs and even Rags.

6. WWSD wristbands. Do it.

Jason Smith wouldn't make a difference. I daresay that letting Smith walk and shuffling Derian Hatcher to long-term IR is going to work as addition by subtraction on that Philadelphia defense. Those two were the kind of players that if a team wanted to keep them in the organization, make them assistant coaches, because they had no business being on the ice in an actual NHL game last year.

When is Shero going to get around to extending Talbot's contract....and increasing his salary so maybe he'll stay a Penguin? Come on...he's one of the best all 'round players we've had and should be one of the core players we build on in the coming years.

Raybin said...

Random musings:

The more I think, the more I like the Satan/Fedotenko signings.

Before last season, Satan had only scored less than 25 goals ONCE since the 1996-1997 season. He can't help but bounce back playing with Sidney Crosby.

Speaking of Sid, was it ever determined who will be his other winger? Do they give Dupuis another go (mistake) or does Shero pull off a signing or trade (DO IT)? Other than Dupuis, I don't know who you could put up there except Staal. But he was so good last year as third line center. Guess we'll see.

Fedotenko's only scored more than 20 goals once since the 2000-2001 season, but with Malkin and Sykora...he'll be fine. Still, it's pretty clear he's a stop gap. Wouldn't be surprised to see Satan stick around for another couple years though.

Thinking it over you could surround Sid with Satan and Fedotenko and give Dupuis a shot as second line winger.

Pretty clear from Burnside's column that the Atlantic will steamroll the rest of the Eastern Conference this year once again.

How funny would it be to see Rathje back on that blueline? And seriously, Philly, Ossi Vaananen? Coburn and Timmonen aren't enough. Smith at least could be thrown out on a second or third pairing and not look completely like an orange cone.

I guess Philly's betting Danielle/Simon/Kramer/Carter will score enough, and hope Biron stands on his head to win a 5-4 game.

Thanks for the wristband advice. It's staying on. My mom will have to get over me not doing everything she says -- it's not like this is the first time that's happened.

As for cake v. pie. As a child, I loved, loved, loved any and every kind of chocolate cake. As an adult, and in particular the past ten years, I've been more of a pie fan. My grandma always makes me an apple pie when I come home to Pittsburgh and won't let my dad have a slice until I've done so. My absolute favorite pie, though, is key lime. Spent some time in the Florida keys and fell in love with key lime pie.
