Not that I hate on Ben (well, maybe-sorta), but it's good to see there's other people out there who aren't putting Interceptionberger in the same class as Mario as far as being that immortal Pittsburgh athlete. As far as I'm concerned, he's not even in the same class as Roberts 07-08.

With that being said.... I'm excited for both the football and hockey seasons to get moving. If I had to choose one, we know which one I would pick. I'm not posting on a damn Steelers blog right now, am I?
I'm sure I'll feel differently come the first week of September, but right now the NFL seems so boring, corporate and overexposed that I can't bring myself to give a rat's ass about it. Usually I'm jonesing for some Steelers football by now, but this year alls I can think about is them Pens. Guess that's what playing a couple games in June'll do for ya.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Pens and Steelers split the airtime this fall.
The Steelers are still number one, but it's hard to deny the Pens are growing fast, especially with the kiddies.

When the season comes back around, I'm either at a friends house or my house in front of the TV as soon as kickoff starts. But when you mentioned corporate and over-exposed, I couldn't agree more. I mean I don't want to seem like I'm hating on the Steelers, but I'm not exactly counting down the days until opening day kickoff. To me, the Steelers are the 1A team that occupies my time until the NHL season starts. Once the two seasons overlap each other, it depends on the Pens schedule.
I've grown completely tired of the Steelers and football in general. Maybe it has something to do with the constant barrage of "What did Favre text message" and "Does T.O. need professional help" topics shoved down our throats by Mike Greenberg and all the other jokes at ESPN 24/7 365. A part of the reason I love hockey so much is because it's kind of a cult. You really feel apart of an exclusive club being a die-hard hockey fan. You have to search for news, search for when the schedule comes out, watch a blurry online feed of TSN to see where Free Agents are headed. It's kind of cool.

I could care less about the Steelers ever. When I was a kid, I loved them. Kevin Greene was my favorite player. When they got rid of him to Carolina, my love switched to Carolina as well. Then I loved TB. Then when the Titans formed in 1999, they were my favorite team. And it's been that way ever since.

I've never understand why there is a large portion of Penguins fans that have such a furious hatred over the Pittsburgh Steelers, almost as if it's some sort of penis envy or something. I don't get it.
Can't you be a fan of both teams? I am. It's not hard. It's actually quite fun, especially when one has won a championship in the previous two years, while the other has played for one.
And hating on Roethlisberger is weak. The guy is fourth in NFL history in terms of yards per pass attempt and has had a passer rating over 98 in three of his four NFL seasons. The Steelers don't sniff the playoffs or a division title without him in 2007.
Someone needs to do a "knucklehead" count on that shitty article. It isn't even shitty based on content.... Someone needs a fuckin' editor, man.

dr turk, that's why i love mondays during NFL season, you hear all the new injuries. its like either the team dr was wrong about the player having spinal fractures, or a miracle happened between then and sunday. and i love how most are "questionable" no matter what the injury until like an hour before the game, then you learn the one with the pinky injury is on IR for 4-6 wks but the one with the broken back will play.
Poor Smiz, it's summer and he's bored. If he wants to talk knuckleheads, why not talk about Ben the diplomat, or Wie not signing her scorecard...duh??

I don't let the media's coverage (or over-coverage) effect my feelings towards that team, mostly because I ignore the sports media because they're filled with Bob Smizik's and John Fedko's that have less knowledge about the teams they cover than the "knuckleheads" that shell out $70 for tickets every week/night.
So if KDKA, or whoever, over-exposes the Steelers or the Penguins or Freddy Sanchez' mole, I don't care, I don't pay much attention to it.
I have season tickets for the Steelers, and I went to Detroit for game one of the Stanley Cup Finals. I love both teams, and if you asked me right now which one I loved more I don't think I could give you an answer.
The Steelers have their (more than) fair share of idiot fans who aren't pleased unless they win every game 84-0, but let's not paint Penguins fans as the peak of ultimate fandom. Just sit next to the fucking guys that spend all night screaming "SHOOT THE PUCK" when the defenseman is carrying the puck out of his own zone, or pounding on the glass screaming "HIT SOMEBODY! JUST HIT SOMEBODY!"
It's just a shame the two seasons aren't spread apart, perhaps we can petition one of them to schedule their games over Pirates season.

my dbacks won to take sole possession of first place in their division.
up 3-0 in the ninth, the dodgers hit a solo shot, and then an rbi double to rally and make it close. after a couple of fights in the stands where i was (it took several cops yanking a resistant lady out of the seats. LA joke.), the pigs settled it down like the dbacks pitching settled it down to win.

And in other news, it looks like I actually will be getting to see the Pens in person for the first (and maybe second!) time ever...I've been talking to the friends that I was tentatively planning to roadtrip with to a Pens game if they got semi-close to Omaha this year, and since they're coming to both StL and Denver we've pretty much decided to do both. Let's hope nothing unexpected pops up.

"Roethlisberger just seems to throw picks at the wrong time" is some of the most uninformed and anecdotal criticism I've heard. But, I mean, I guess I'll just take a page from Adam's playbook and try to still like both teams. That is allowed, correct? I'm a football fan first, but the NHL is number two and this is a great website to follow the Pens through. But you guys really seem to have a John Holmes level hard-on for Steelers bashing. Roethlisberger is easily a top 10 NFL QB, probably top 5.
I also agree with Adam that you can't just generalize fans like you have. Watching the playoff games at the local Pittsburgh bar (I'm in Ft. Lauderdale) meant dealing with a lot of "shoot the puck!" and "PENALTY!?!? WHERE'S THE PENALTY!?!?!" every time someone fell.
