Cruel Summer

Gary Roberts and Ryan Malone are no longer Penguins.
It hurts, but it was going to happen either way.
It went down three days early and Shero picked up at least a 4th round pick. 3rd if Malone signs.
Solid transaction.

:: [ G-Dubs ] tipped us off to a post over at [ Eye on the Media ] about an incredible auction.
Get ready to cash in those bar mitzvah bonds.
Someone over at [ eBay ] is auctioning off Weezer's Sega Genesis from the 1995 blue album tour.
With it comes a handful of games, including a very worn NHL '95.
Says the band:
Everyone would play NHL 95 for hours as we rolled along in the bus, and when things didnt go well, the console got punched! But it survived!

We missed Wingblog last night, because we are jokes.
Stephen S. was the only Staff member on site.

Thankfully ShOez recapped the events.:

Wingblog Recapblog

I'm not the best of writers, but I figured I would give recapblog a shot since neither Derek nor Adam could make it tonight. I'm not witty, so don't have big expectations. Hah.

You can't begin this recap without first thanking the girl who made it possible. Eileen rules for setting this up and creating such a fun event. What a solid move.

As for me and the girl, it was an hour-long trip to the Robinson area as it seemed to be the same for most of the others, too. j.s. had a two hour trip and lucky Stephen only had a ten minute cruise. It was well worth the time, gas, whatever. This was crucial.

We arrived 20 minutes early and sat in the parking lot listening to some of the most awkward music I've heard.

Some sort of political modern rap or something. I don't know. No one knows.

The clock on my stereo turned 6 so I figured we may as well go stand out front and see who shows up. No one was there. I worried that I somehow managed to go to the wrong one. After 10 minutes, we went inside to find brndlynn and j.s. already chilling in the entryway waiting for people. They spotted us by our Pens shirts. j.s. already had his beer in hand. He was prepared. They took us four to our table of 13. We were then joined by coffeytalk and the ringleader, eileenover. Graphics guru Stephen soon joined us and the conversation really started going. We soon got the call that Pensblog Adam was not coming. Despressionblog. To continue the sadness, the first talks were of Bugsy and Roberts and their departure from our beloved Pens. johnny v. soon joined us after he dealt with construction on the parkway.

Charlie was spotted.

Joose was also dealing with the construction. Someone else joined us for a little while with their girl but I can't remember his cblog username. My apologies. Somewhere around this time, Stephen started nerdblog and pulled out his sketchbook filled with the Pensblog Mascot. We decided that it was time to discuss about a possible name for our mascot. Within 15 seconds, we had decided that the only option was to call him Dick. There you have it.

Dick.

The StUHshes showed up right before monsoonblog. Monsoonblog left Joose stranded in the parking lot for several minutes before she weathered the rain and made it inside. Wingblog in full effect. Upon her arrival, Stephen enhanced nerdblog by pulling out his Macbook. Only a dedicated graphics man like him would come prepared to wingblog by bringing a laptop. What a solid play. Then it was time to be stunned. He brought out Pensblog Jerseyblog with some amazing designs that possibly have a bright future. One in particular. I will let him and the staff discuss about all of that later.

::::::

Pensblog note:

Stephen did more, we will release them with the details next week.
Now back to ShOez:

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

We formed The Pensblog Council after realizing we took it upon ourselves to decide on the mascot's name and which jersey design we liked best.

Somewhere around this time, wilsmith made an appearance and talked with us for a little before returning to his group of friends. Also at some point, Johnny v. took it upon himself to make a toast to all those fellow cbloggers who did not get a chance to make it to wingblog and we all toasted with him.

Copsblog

Quaker Steak realized that, like the rest of the world, no one wanted to watch the Mets and Yankees. After a short period of no TV at all, Quaker Steak found it best to put on the only TV show that needs to be shown in a family restaurant. Cops. The episode began with some hooker being jobbed by the cops. Then our lives changed. Pittsburghblog. In what ended up being a solid move on QS&L's part, some joke got majorly jobbed by a police dog in some dump of a Pittsburgh neighborhood. Blood all over his shirt. They caught him on foot quickly.

The dog pulled a Mike Tyson on his ear.

Joke = stunned.

The final segment featured some beanpole of a jokette in some suspicious vehicle in some back dirt road alleyway somewhere in the city. No idea what was up. She needed to buy a bra though. Grossblog.

QS&L then breaks our hearts by turning on the Pirates game. They were playing Tampa Bay. Coincidenceblog. We were stunned.

We then got our food and silence fell upon the table for the next 20 or so minutes. The conversation soon picked back up. Everything from the Pens, to food, to music (especially the crap playing in QS&L), to Youtube, to Guitar Hero, etc was discussed over the next hour and a half. At one point, me and Stephen managed to isolate ourselves by bringing nerdblog to full effect. Solid. One of the highlights was this video:

What a play by the ref to break up that fight.

Around 10, me, the girl, and Stephen headed out. Stoosh reports that everyone else stuck around for about another hour or so. My memory is beginning to fail me as it usually does. I think I covered mostly everything. If not, find out the rest of the details in cblog. Last but certainly not least, here are the pictures from wingblog thanks to Stoosh. Enjoy!

Hope everyone enjoyed the post! We wanted something written up. I know I'm not the wittiest person, but hopefully this kept you entertained! Wingblog 2.0 soon to be announced. Hopefully more of you can make it!

-sh0ez.

::::

Thanks to ShOez for that.

Whenever the next wingblog is planned, we will let everyone know.
And we'll be there, bet your life on it.

I searched through 26 pages of Google Image results trying to find a "council" picture with at least 11 people, with half men and half women. That one was on page 26. It actually worked quite well with our heads, I thought. Ha ha.

LOVE IT. Thanks shoez for typin' that up and thanks eileen for makin' it all happen. and thanks stoosh for photodocumenting it. i brought my camera but failed to use it.

Nice job Sh0ez! Someday I'll get out there for a Wingsblog.

So is our Pengi friend's name Dick or was that just the top suggestion?

sh0ez said...

@ chica: I'm pretty sure it was an official vote. We all felt like dicks just going right ahead and saying it was official like that without passing it through Staff or other cbloggers, though. At least I did. Ha ha. Pun intended up there, too. Dick seems appropriate.

I thought Cops came on AFTER we ate (not certain), and I arrived before the Stooshes. haha They got there after the monsoon ended.

eileenover said...

We should consider Dave & Buster's for a get together also.

sh0ez said...

Ha ha. I was like, man I didn't want to put anyone with the pink suit. Time for me to explainblog. It came down to you or Brandi. And I tried both ways. Your hair and hers fit better this way. Ha ha. I can be a perfectionist. I'm sorry I stuck you with it!

sh0ez said...

@ joose: I knew I would get things out of order. I don't think it really makes a difference. That's the worst part about having me do it is that I don't remember when things happened. I was gonna ask someone, but I figured screw it. Ha ha.

Joose said...

For the next Wingblog, we all need to have coordinating blue key neck strap thingies like in the picture. That would be SWEET.

KJ said...

so, not only did i miss wingblog, i missed cops?! is my life even worth living anymore?? (bangs head)

but great recap shoez, i'm glad you guys had fun!

Joose said...

Sh0ez

I agree that the order of events doesn't matter. It's the time we shared as a whole that is significant!

sh0ez said...

@ joose: Sort of like Hello My Name Is tags but better because they are laminated and on neckstraps.

Joose said...

I couldn't remember the name for them, but then Google refreshed my memory. They are called "lanyards." Weird.

eileenover said...

If you guys want me to set up another facebook event and call ahead for the next Wingblog, I'd be happy to do it. I like organizing things.

Well, the birds will probably be conversing soon outside my window, better hit the hay.

eileenover said...

Yeah I'm off to bed as well. Maybe tomorrow we can start planning some future c-blog events. Goodnight.

Jonny Veesdoorwall said...

Sweet, we have a secretary volunteer! Now we just need someone to take minutes haha jk shoez you did an excellent recap!

Joose said...

FYI: I would never wear a lanyard, unless I was being a complete goofball for a very brief period of time or putting together some sort of Halloween costume that is either a high school football coach or a referee.

TheNWChica said...

If you do get customized lanyards would I be able to get one even though I can't make it to Wingblog?

I feel a little alone sometimes since I'm out here and miss out on pretty much everything.

Joose said...

I think I am the only one who wasn't nervous, which is weird. If Sh0ez and Michelle wouldn't have been there, than I definitely would have been (probably).

penstone410 said...

i think its actually really cool that many of the cbloggers that went are actually admitting they were nervous.. im sure i would have been too, but it sounds like it would have been for nothing cause everyone seems just that awesome =)

sh0ez said...

@ eileen: Do it. You performed flawlessly. I also forgot to mention that your great work earned you a Stephen Slesinski original!

@ joose: I forgot their name, too.

@ penstone: I looked into custom ones. Minimum orders of 100 pieces at pretty much all places, meaning minimum cost would be over $150. Ugh. And we wouldn't rid of 100 of them. You can get blank ones pretty cheap. Hmm . . .

@ johnny: It's okay. I think we were all a bit nervous. Ha ha.

sh0ez said...

It seems you can get 25 of those lanyards for $25. Then like 25 badge holders for a few bucks. Then we could make our own badges. Ha ha.

Finally, an idea I had an cblog came in to fruition.

(although it's NOWHERE near as good as J.S. coming up with WWGRD. That = still unreal)

J.S. said...

bng, but I still can't take full credit for that.

If it wasn't for staff running with it and taking the time to go through with the wristband idea, it would have only been an inside joke on here and LGP. I gave them a quote for 100, but who would have ever thought that the total bands sold would have been (and staff, jump in here if I'm wrong on the total) over 1500?

Stoosh said...

What an awesome recap!

I've had the WWGRD wallpaper up on the Castille de Stoosh office computer for a long time. It's now been replaced with Pensblog Council.

Joose is right...we were the last ones there. In fact, we pretty much drove the whole way in from Aliquippa with the storm that hit, which made what should've been a 20 minute trip almost twice as long because there was so much water on the roads and I was afraid of turning the Stooshmobile into a hovercraft.

As it's been discussed...both Christine and I were nervous, too, because we were meeting almost all of you for the first time. I feel bad because that's part of the reason I didn't handle our introductions to the group as well as I wanted to. We never went down to the other end of the table to say hi to Joose, Jonny V or Shoez and his girlfriens, so I apologize to you guys for that...we didn't mean to come off as rude or anything.

Glad to see that everyone made it home safely last night, too.

@ Eileen - Dave & Busters is an awesome idea!

brndlynn said...

@ eileen: if u need any help planning anything just let me know. i was wondering if we should vary wingblog to other places as well or stick with QS&L.
@ shoez: solid recap. the council pic made me lol. i can die happy knowing that i made it into a tpb ps.
@ stoosh: how is it that you never made it into any of the pics. epic fail.

Stoosh said...

@ Penstone410 -

Once everyone got settled in, it turned into one big c-blog conversation. The only drawback was that they had the music up a little loud, so it sometimes made hearing the conversation a little tough. But you'll have that in any setting, I guess.

I don't know about anyone else, but Nancy Stoosh and I were so excited/nervous to meet everyone and had all these things we wanted to talk to everyone about...but once we walked in and sat down, the nerves took over for a little while and our minds kind of went blank.

@ Brndlynn -

I ended up taking all the pictures and never took the waitress up on her offer to take the pictures for us so I could get in on some of the pictures as well. Mistake by me...I forgot she mentioned it. When I got home last night and realized I only took like five or six pictures, I regretted not taking more. Again, maybe it was a bit of the being nervous thing.

If we do Dave&BustersBlog for the next get-together, many more pictures will be taken.

I think last night was awesome because once everyone kind of came out of their shells a little (kind of like Jonny V was saying), it turned out to be more fun than I expected it to be. If all c-bloggers are like the group we met last night, we would all be a very fun group to hang out with. You all seem exactly like many of the people Christine and I already call our friends.

Dan said...

hmmm doing some soul searching. is it ethical to boo the players who left for being greedy? obviously gary is not one of these players.

J.S. said...

sabrejets, I didn't, but I think I did mention last night that I almost considered it. Being that joose has to wait for the monsoon to slow down before she showed up, and that it rained for another hour or so after that, it probably better that I didn't. Plus, I didn't get home until almost 1 and that stretch from Delmont to New Alex was a bit of a blur.

Stoosh said...

@ Brndlynn -

cbloggers are alot like my non-hockey friends only you guys get me sense of humor (or lack thereof) alil better then they do.

Exactly.

I guess we're lucky because my friends could be divided up into C-blog friends and non-Clog friends, but you could very easily mix the two groups because 1) most of my non-Cblog friends are bigtime Pens fans (not that that's a prerequisite or anything) and 2) we all share the same semi-practical, goofy senses of humor.

Everyone last night was a lot of fun to be around. Christine and I were talking about it on the way home and we said that if someone couldn't have hanging around with that group, they'd have a hard time having fun hanging around with anyone.

I'd hold off on the booing. As far as I know, there hasn't been any figures released at to what Malone was offered.

I'm not going to boo Bugsy. This is his chance for a big payday, and I hate to say it, I might (big emphasis on MIGHT) do the same thing if I were in his shoes. Although there is a difference between collecting that proverbial fat cash and taking a little less to play for a team that might be back in the cup finals in the next few years.

(this is the third place today that I mentioned a quote from Jay and Silent Bob strikes back.)

brndlynn said...

@ stoosh: i have alot of the typical 20-something "lets go get drunk" friends who dont really care about hockey and dont understand my (healthy?) obsession with the pens. last night was a nice break. i was able to say "free candy" without someone asking for a piece of gum!

@cblog- I wish I could have gone to wingblog.(thanks for the toast to those of us who could not be there) I think it's great that cblog has become a community of friends and will someday be a family. Adversity (UFAs and a loss in the SCF) creates a tight knit group.

@sh0ez - I enjoyed the recap. But when I saw "copsblog" and COPS I thought GOODGODGARY they got themselves arrested! good job.

Dick is an excellent choice. hee! ;) why? dr turk's reasons buried it like 66. and as for the voting, sabrejets has it right: a quorom and the right call=no problemo.

kitty video - money. my cats do that all the time. wrestle. fight. vomit. sort of like free agency.

and finally, before I go fight with and then vomit on my laptop: UFAblog. These guys do nothing that we would not do - hope for and seek a better pay day for the work we do with our skill set and talents. no difference except the amount of money. none. most of us have changed jobs for money and perceived opportunity.

Sabrejets said...

On booing these guys:
No they aren't Pens anymore, but you can't blame them for trying to make money. Free agency has really messed up sports for the fans, especially in the small markets.

In the old glory days you could count on the guys on the team being "the team" next year too...

In baseball It's hard to see the Pirates be a developmental team for everyone else. It's hard to do anything but hate the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers etc. ESPECIALLY when the media tells you how wonderful it is when they win. It is as though the big money teams are supposed to win and the small market teams are supposed to be like the Washington Generals going up the globetrotters, and we're supposed to be interested.
I hate free agency but don't begrudge the players...

I remember when Leyland left Pittsburgh he was frustrated with trying to build a team here. At least the Pens compete, and Pensnation (as cliche as that is) continues to grow. The Pens have wide appeal outside of Pittsburgh.

End of rantblog...

Hmm ... my Dad took his good pick and chainsaw, so we have to resort to hand-tools. My "big strong" brother got 2 scratches on the tree, and I got a huge chunk out of the one part ... I'm cutting it at 2 points so it's easier to move. I wonder how he does his job and how he's going to be an engineer if he can't figure this out ...

We do not boo Malone ... in fact, I might have a bit of a problem when we play his team ... Because I cheer for him to do good and he's my fav. but I don't want him to hit my team ... this isn't going to be good.

@ Prozach -

Are you within driving distance of Mellon Arena? If so, you might want to check PenStation at the arena. I believe they're still open from like 11AM - 3PM on most weekdays.

One thing I love about NHL teams is that they make pre-lettered jerseys available at the arena for pretty much every player. If I want a jersey of one of the lesser-known players, I can get one.

For some stupid reason, if I went to a Pirates game and wanted to get a jersey pre-lettered with a lesser-known player, I'd be S.O.L. I wanted to get a Nate McLouth jersey last year because he's been one of my favorite players since he came up with the team a few years ago...no dice. I think they had Bay, Sanchez, Jack Wilson and Adam Laroche. Beyond that, I'd have to order it off the website, have it customized and wait for it to ship.

I'm sure you could either buy a blank Pens jersey there or take a jersey you got somewhere else and get the lettering/numbers done....

@Stoosh: That reminded me of something I saw on the Pens site ...

Pens sale

and just because he's from Pittsburgh ...

Murovich

@prozach: It's near Gate 1 ...

yea maybe, ha but like i said, im not too worried about it until i have enough money for one.

How does this effect the trendy "Tampa Bay North" handle, that some folks attach to the Pens? (and will continue to do so despite the wonderful debunking by tbp a few posts back.)

I will still wear my Malone jersey and wwgrd wristband, probably not when the Pens play the 'ning though.

This is weird.

I'll reserve judgment until the dust settles.

Wingblog looked really fun. Good job!

Yeah, and I have to go to work. . .again.

jerseyblog - still hoping to get a Talbot jersey after I get back from vacation. Pre-vacation, jerseys are a bit of an investment. . .especially when I have to order online.

I was thinking about getting thsi jersey when I got some extra cash. You can customize it. I just don't know who I would want from that era. Kehoe, maybe? Think this jersey is a good deal?

sh0ez said...

This jersey is made for you, ihk.

sh0ez said...

Oops. That's a kids jersey. Ha ha. Natural hat trick?

last years regular season schedules were announced july 11th. sooner than i thought. i cant wait to see this seasons. and hopefully we will know most of who is on our team by that time.

i dont wear a watch but i could totally be pimp with this one.

@Sh0ez: Kaspar was on his way to have his number retired ... I mean, if Gronk didn't take it, he would be up in the rafters *laughs* JK

I would probably buy it if it wasn't for my stupid family ... then again they have probably saved me from losing every cent I have on Pens/Steelers gear ...

I just realized I have a raffle ticket for a signed Whitney stick from the 1st of June! NO!!

Looks as if the Lightning signed both Malone and Roberts, or at least are damn close...

Stoosh, I felt bad for not making my way to the other end of the table and introducing myself to everyone, but i'm sure none of us will be nervous next time.

jefe, I remember in my toast saying washington state, arizona, and denver, and everyone else added texas and ottawa and ohio.

Shoez, you can go with Pronovost, Hahavolich, Kehoe, or big Dave Schultz (the enforcer). I want to get Greg Malone, i wanted a Malone jersey for a while now, and it would be pointless to get one now. They wore the same number too, so they had that going for them, which is nice.

I guess that's a good price, u figure 75 bucks for the jersey, and customizations are usually 65-70 bucks. It looks like they're sticking it to you on the shipping though. Try shopping around a little bit

The secret to overcoming any nervousness you may have before meeting Cbloggers is to get a little buzz going and you won't give a crap who you meet! That's how i did it at tailgateblog. We just walked around handing out Free Candy until i saw BNG.

Looks like c-blog is slowing down, where oh where is flyerhater to save us all? He's the ginchiest.

@Stoosh
jerseyblogs:

Is the Honus Wagner company still in business on 5th (or is it Forbes?) down by PPG place? Got my first jersey there in '86 and they will customize. If they're still there (which is a big "if" considering how long I been away from the 'Burgh...)

Ah, you have a point Eileen. Sorry!

Yeah Dr. Turk. I was thinking the same thing. The reason that Malone was not resigned here is because Shero is not stupid and he's not into overpaying guys. Malone will be overpaid. I like the WW$$D.

Hey, whatev.

One more try on my PS...

18th Stree Primantis is quintessential Pittsburgh and would be an excellent choice for the next meeting and I would love to get there...

Sabrejets said...

Yeah, attending Duquesne in the
80s it was go to Station Square, Marios, the Decade or Peters Pub in Oakland, get hammered and hit Primantis in the strip to soak up the brew with a giant sammitch at 2:30 in the morning. It is no doubt, still a tradition with D.U. Students...

@hip

I'm pretty sure I sent you an invite to Wingblog on Facebook, but if I didn't I apologize. Next time I'll make sure you know about it.

wilsmith said...

Next time I'll be on time, and I will sit at the table for more than 15 minutes.

stokes said...

@ Sabrejets: If you are a Pittsburgher that drinks, going to Primanti's after a long night of drinking is almost a way of life. It has been done many times by this Cblogger and friends.

and if you think that Primanti's is nasty, you should see it on the way back up....
