Jealousy, Eileen. That's what I'd think is might be, for the most part.
Whether opposing fans want to admit it or not, they see the Pens for what they truly are - the next great NHL dynasty in the making.
I remember reading what John Buccigross wrote about the Devils in his 2006-07 season preview. Namely, the Devils should appreciate the division title they'd win in 2006-07, because the Penguins were coming and it was going to be the Pens' division for the foreseeable future. But I don't even think Buccigross anticipated the Pens coming together this quickly. And the sick thing is that this is just the beginning.
The Wings fans look at their team and they have to be proud at what they've all accomplished. But there are a handful of core guys there who are watching the window start to close, while the Pens are just now beginning to throw open the window on their time. They know this is the case. And while they probably have some comfort in knowing that they have perhaps the best front office and scouting staff in the NHL to see them through the transition, the transition away from the Lidstroms, Drapers, Osgoods and Maltbys is coming nonetheless. And there's probably some uncertainty there.
What voox and some of his other A2Y cronies might not be able to appreciate is the way that "Team Pittsburgh" came together as well this year. They endured a somewhat slow start and then suffered injuries to key personnel that would've crippled 95% of the rest of the franchises in the NHL.
What they might not understand is how the other core players stepped up. They might not understand how Evgeni Malkin made it HIS team when Sid wasn't around to help shoulder the load. They might not understand how Ty Conklin made it HIS net. They might not understand how Kris Letang - in just his second pro season - came in and helped stabilize a defensive corps with his solid overall play and puck-moving skills. They might not appreciate how this team continued to win despite key roles on the team being filled by minor-leaguers. Not prospects, but career minor-leaguers like Chris Minard, Nathan Smith and Connor James.
Pens fans scoff at the attempts of these fans to convince us that the Pens are intimidated by the Red Wings or that they haven't seen adversity. This team had every chance to fold up when Fleury and especially Crosby went down, and most fans probably would've forgiven them if they had. But they didn't. In fact, they played even better.
They weren't intimidated then and I have a hard time believing that after everything they've been through this year, they're even remotely intimidated by the prospect of being down one game to none against the Red Wings.
Kronwall broke Malone's nose, a fire alarm at the hotel broke the Penguins nappy time at 01:30 (mil-time mofos, it's memorial day).
What's the over/under on the heads Kronwall will hunt today? 2...3? If he gets Sid, does that count for 1 1/2? Should we count lost teeth?

You give good puck-moving D like Detroit has any space to make a breakout pass, and you've waited too long. It seems like the Wings D are making the passes that the Ottawa/Rangers/Flyers D couldn't. Dallas had some success with the 2-man dump-and-press, particularly when they threw it opposite corner for a driving winger. The Pens have a size advantage. They should use it.
It sounds obvious, but I think they just need to get one to open to floodgates. Morale just doesn't seem to be existent at this point.
The radio intermission brought up the shots thing too. The Wings aren't really trying to set up quality shots every time down the ice like the Pens are trying to do. They keep throwing the puck at the net and a few go in. The Pens need to start playing that type of playoff hockey. They won't dominate this team like they have the last 3, so they can't expect a picture perfect goal every time. Time to start throwing things in and crashing the net.

Check the first replay the showed, not the second or third where you can't even see Scuderi's face. Whatever Detroit player it was, it ricocheted off Gill and hit Scuderi in the face. On the third angle they showed it looks as if it's Gills stick, but if you look closely, Scuderi's whiplash is a split second before Gills stick arrives.
I'm really surprised that Fleury let those two in, especially the first one. Second one was more Hall's mistake for throwing the puck back behind the net without looking first.
But Marc-Andre had better get it together quickly...he's gotta be flawless now.

Lurking Detroit fans - I now know how it felt to be the Philly fans watching the Pens in Game Five of the ECF. It looks like there are ten Red Wings out there at times.
I think we got some chances on the power plays, but we're just not getting the bounces right now.
We need to find a way to match the Wings at even-strength. Dump & Chase isn't working if there's no chase.
They need to simplify their game and just start shooting the puck. The one problem with Therrien's system is that it too often works for quality chances and doesn't allow as much for instances where they can just throw the damn thing at the net and get some dirty goals. Detroit is doing a good job taking time and space away from the Pens. Therrien needs to come up with something different.
Defense hasn't been all that bad. Whitney on the PK terrifies me. Fleury probably should've stopped at least one of those goals, but we'll see how he comes out. He's shaken off worse than this.
It's not over yet...not by a longshot. This team has proven before how quickly it can cut leads down. One goal at a time.

I don't know PofRuu, but it wouldn't surprise me. I suppose the only thing that matters is how many goals each team has at the end, so if it takes 90 shots to win, so be it. I'd imagine they could have done that in a multiple OT game.

It seems like every time a puck is sitting in the slot, the Wings get to it first, regardless which end of the ice it is in. The Pens need to win a few more of those to limit chances on D and to create a couple more on O.
I really don't care about who high-sticked Scuds right now. I care about our team actually scoring a goal. They need to stop passing and shoot the damn puck. They're not supporting each other behind the net and that needs to change.

Why talk trash about shots? It's 3-3 this period now that the Pens have gone with a more aggressive forecheck. That would bother me. Not to mention that the Wings haven't had a shot on net in about 7 minutes.
