Parade Planning?

We linked some blog yesterday that was talking about planning a Wings Cup parade.
Pretty harmless. The guy's wife is cheating on him as he makes blog posts.

[ Wings Parade ]

But now this turd has heard through his gayvine that city officials in Detroit are already talking about next Tuesday, June 3rd, as being a potential parade date.

Newspapers have been given the heads-up on the parade route.

Winning two games in your own backyard apparently means the series is over.
Get real.

photoshoppers, attack

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Sure wish we could hear what Mark Madden had to say about the parade garbage.
Unfortunately, the man you love or love to hate has been suspended. [ Jobber article ]
-- Thanks to Flyer Hater for the find --

It's been mentioned many times before. Everyone has their own feelings about the man.
It's good to hear hockey talk, no matter what. We've jobbed him in the past.

But there's one place Mark Madden should be during the Stanley Cup Finals.
Most fans would dream of having a radio talk-show host whose first love is hockey.

For Madden Haters out there, don't take offense.
The man has paid his dues and boosted ratings when terrestrial radio should be dead.
To take him off the radio during the Stanley Cup Finals is a disgrace.

Then again, who knows?
Maybe he was just gonna say the Pens are done.
Or maybe he could see a silver lining that we could all grasp.

But no. Thanks to a personal vendetta that Bob Smizik has,
Mark Madden is not where he should be during the Stanley Cup Finals.

It all started when Madden said something about Ted Kennedy
that Smizik thought would offend someone who is 85 years old.

He wrote a column in the PG about it...
someone who probably doesn't even know who Madden is read the piece...
and the rest was history.

We couldn't read Smizik's entire article [ here ]
because we fell asleep halfway through it while jumping out of a window.

Go Pens

Fuck them. Let's destroy them. If this doesn't motivate the Pens I don't know what will.

Since I made a post in the last thread without realizing there was a new one, here it is again.

I thought of something else in the car today to keep us in a good mood. It's originally a car game, but it works here too. Think of every song you can with "love" in the title and replace it with the word "knob".

So the wings hold serve in THEIR building, WOW! That's quite an achievement!

Game Plan:
Well, what we can do is make sure Flower's not getting screened and push towards their crease. Osgood was having some issues when we went into the crease (reason why he shoved Malone.) Flower needs us to be defensively responsible ... we have been pretty good on PK, but our PP needs to take the load off the team ... they need to produce. That's making us frustrated along with stupid penalties. I don't remember who said it but they were talking about putting shots on net no matter what. Make Osgood have to go for every puck, which will unnerve him. Weird angle shots to wrap-arounds, anything to get Osgood antsy and nervous. He's going to have to react if you throw shots on net. He might react too quickly or we could fake him out or just get him so nervous that he won't make the saves he's expected to. I'm thinking the biggest key is to get into Osgood's head because if you have Lidstrom on your team, you won't be able to get into his head as easily. Also, when Malkin is pushing through the middle, we need our guys coming either directly behind him or the sides. He's drawing all the attention ... he's got three or four guys on him, why not exploit that? If Sykie comes flying down the side after Geno's got them down the center, he could pass it to the sniper and he could fire on net. Also, Osgood might be keeping his eye on Malkin more than Sykie and if he's coming up to help Malkin, he might go unnoticed and catch Osgood by surprise.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

Why, oh, why do other people post nothing constructive here? Paulinmiamibeach, no offense or anything, but I don't care if you have a girlfriend and neither do the people making fun of you. They are calling you out because you have nothing better to do than post on Pens site and talk to us about our bias, which makes no sense. A Penguins blog having a tilt towards the Penguins, what world do we live in? (please, note sarcasmblog) You need to understand that no one here takes you seriously, especially after the plus/minus conversation. I'm sorry, if you are a hockey fan and all, but that needed to be said. Coming on here isn't going to change anyone's opinion especially the way you treat us. I know no one on your A2Y site gives a damn about our opinions wither, so it's mutual.

Oh and Paulinmiami: Chica's a girl ...

When has Madden ever been PC? He was on NHL Live and basically made fun of the Steelers ... the man is who he is, I don't like him but at least he attempts to make talk hockey. Plus, it's the Kennedy's ... they have such a titan grip over anything I'm surprised he didn't get paddy-whacked. I didn't think that the comments were anything near needed but you pretty much know what you get when you have Madden.

PaulinMiamiBeach said...

@IHK, I covered this earlier, but perhaps you weren't around. These folks fit some classic definition of trolls, for example:

The Mutt. Alternatively known as Dogs or Yapping Dogs. Mutts are pack animals characterized by their loud barking – vociferous, repetitive, usually ignorant and irrational criticism of anything and anyone they do not like. Mutts frequently become obsessed with a few or even a single poster with whom they disagree, often for purely personal reasons. Like a dog gnawing at a bone, the Mutt will attack the object of its ire over and over again, making a fool of itself in the eyes of those who understand such childish behavior for what it is.

PaulinMiamiBeach said...

Paul -- but why are you still on here now? To talk about Kiss?

I won't attack you. I don't know you. I'm not much of a fan of the gay jokes either. And I can even admit that, after a game or a series is over, I even like to visit opponents' boards myself sometimes to see how people are reacting and responding.

Anyway, it must be terribly difficult to muster the bravery to visit this site when your team is up 2-0. And I'm sure you're not a fairweather fan. I'm sure you were all over thePredsBlog comments section when Nashville tied it up at 2-2 last month.

Or last year -- why don't you link us the comments you were making on Ducks' message boards when they knocked you out of the playoffs last year? Why don't you cite for us the valid, statistical questions you were asking of those guys then.

I'd rather see those posts than pictures of your uber-hot Canadian girlfriend, because they'd be even more amazing to me personally.

Or just go way back in the time machine and send us copies of the witty messages and statistical difference explanataion inquiries you were penning in 2003 when the Ducks swept you out in the first round.

Those would confirm that you're not just a front-running jackass with nothing better to do than make daily visits here while your team is up in the series.

Paisley makes the funniest songs like "Ticks" and "Celebrity."

I can't listen to Carrie Underwood too much, if you listen to country radio, you'll understand. They over play her so much, I want to vomit. Yes, she has good songs, I get it, but after listening to "Jesus, Take the Wheel" a million times, I'm hoping Jesus drives me into a ditch ...

@eileenover

I'm with you on Madden. He's a fool. His first love isn't hockey: his first love is Mark Madden. Well, that and pissing people off in order to get a rise out of them and to profit from it.

Look, I understand the frustration that Peguins fans feel about the Steelers, their fans, and their media coverage in Pittsburgh. But a lot of us (I daresay) are Steeler fans too, and don't feel a need to choose sides.

And Madden attacking the Rooneys and Bettis and Ward, and all of his nonsense in that regard? Just silly.

Plus most sane people frown on calls for assasination of public figures.

PaulinMiamiBeach said...

What was your question, though?

my question was this: Zettererg, Datsyuk, Crosby, Malkin, and Hossa all had about the same point totals going into this series, but Zetterberg and Datsyuk were ahead of them by at least 10 in +/-. I was hoping some Pens fans could tell me what the difference is in their on-ice performance that caused that discrepancy.

after trying for quite a while, and meeting nothing but bs from most here, someone finally actually engaged the question and came to the conclusion that a lot of the Pens' points came on the power play, which of course doesn't figure into +/-. also, the Wings shorthanded goals figured into some of Zetterberg's extra +/-.

Doc Steel said...

This Madden situation is one of the few times I disagree with you guys.

I'll admit I don't really care for Madden, but he's listenable, and certainly knows his shit when it comes to hockey. He should be on the radio during these finals.

But he doesn't deserve to be.

Just reading that article is a small sample of all the times Madden needed to be fired. The only reason ESPN keeps him around is money.

They don't need to be the United Nations, but there comes a time when you can't let the little boy do whatever he wants. I'm glad the station is showing some backbone. Like Smizik said, though ESPN needs Madden, Madden needs ESPN just as badly.

Love the Smithers comparison, though. I hate Smizik.

eileenover said...

Thanks Matt. I agree with everything you said.

Face value is $232 for the pair of seats in section D7, row C, just over the redline on the "Pens shoot once" side of the ice. They're pretty good seats really, for D.

Face value is just about all I want from cblog -- that plus the transfer fee it will cost to send them via e-mail. And if you use paypal, I'd really prefer to go that route, because there is no delay in exchanging money and tickets that way. (I mean, I trust you guys 'n at, but . . . .)

debrisslide said...

@ paul - I'm not a stats expert and I'm not 100% sure how +/- is definitively calculated (forgive me) but what I noticed watching the Pens is that their "star" players aren't ALWAYS scoring. I noticed a very wide variety of Penguins scoring in the playoffs as opposed to a few people from the Wings getting the big goals. Also, goals against. . .I think we can all agree that Detroit's star players have a certain level of consistency and their defense has been hardcore. They're usually scored against when the big names are on the bench. When the Pens are scored against, it seems to be a bit different. To me, this says that Detroit has a core few guys with raw talent and the talent in the Penguins is spread out more evenly with first, second, third, AND fourth lines that are capable of kicking ass, but no line that is flawless. Hm?

But I might just be talking out of my ass. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I do have $125 I think, eileen. If I don't I can get it. Hopefully...

matt in dc said...

@jyo -- I suspect we'll hear crickets chrping for a while before we get an answer to that request for links to Paul's snarky comments made when his team is behind.

Or maybe Paul's job last year at this time just was not so "computer oriented."

@dying alive -- no, I do have a good job. I'm a country music critic.

(Actually, I'd have been totally in your camp on the country music question up until a few years ago. Now I think it's more accurate for me to say "I hate Nashville." I'm so impressed and in tune with your music list, and I guess I'd say that -- if we must use labels -- someone like Neko Case or Jenny Lewis could fit into the "alt country" camp with bands like Hem and Wilco and other decidedly non-Nashville, American music.)

The Big K said...

Hats off for the best photoshop of the year.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@jyo: I haven't seen Vassar in concert ... he seems like he would be good for concerts ... If you like country, you gotta like King George ...

Kenny runs everywhere on that stage ... he touches so many people's hands that I'm surprised he isn't sick most of the time ... Pat Green was really cool, he took people's cameras and took pictures of the band and stuff. Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn rock at concerts.

@letsgopsu: I go whenever my friends take me, so twice is the least amount of times I go ... And they will kill you if you have them at least twice every year since you were a small child and eat other foods that are prone to clog your arteries as well ... the Fries will be the fat that finishes clogging of one of my arteries ...

racheleyos said...

so the tickets are like 125$ each??

eileenover said...

Yep. If anyone seriously wants to go, I'm all in.

letsgopsu said...

@ IHKaspar

Well, they aren't the sole culprit then, so don't talk about them like that.

racheleyos said...

HMM.... i should have $125.00. i'm gonna check my account online here.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

My friend sits in Section C and hers are up to 600 and something dollars and hers are cheaper than other people near her, which is near $1,200. He's throwing a real good deal ...

@letsgopsu: I have nothing but sincere love for my potato patch fries ...

Jawsh said...

Hey guys, here is an article from Scott Burnside ripping into 66 for not giving many interviews.

Joke.

66 can do whatever he wants as far as im concerned. Mario saved this team more times than Burnside has slept with his mother. (To be fair, as far as I know Burnside has only slept with his mother once.)

dhudzin said...

If eileen passes, I should be in. I left a voicemail with my friend about the tickets, but he's working right now. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Jawsh said...

Sorry here it is>

Flyer Hater said...

Good, I can't wait to see ESPN Radio go completely down the shithole without Madden. Are they seriously going to advertise those two no-talent hacks Junker and Crow as their main draw? Get fucking real. Ted Kennedy committed involuntary manslaughter but we can't make fun of him for that? All hail Sirius.

matt in dc said...

Great price? What can I say -- I make some money on eBay sometimes, but I might be the only half-assed amateur ticket broker on there who tries to follow PA's scalping laws about premium prices.

And I'm not really a broker or anything -- just a fan who feels bad taking too much money from other real Pittsburgh fans when I sell tickets.

If I put them on eBay after all, I might make more money but I also might be responsible for letting in two Wings fans.

(Though I have to admit that I was going to attend the game with a friend of mine who is from Michigan originally. He is a real Wings fan -- though, unlike Paul, he is not fascinated by relative +/- comparisons.)

@dying alive - speaking of Michigan and +/-, are you into the band +/- too? They're from Detroit. Maybe it is a city-wide fascination after all.

letsgopsu said...

@ eileen

I can make $125, but I don't know when I'm getting away from work. They said I should be done by 5 or 6, but the word should worries me.

racheleyos said...

I wish I had a better jobbbb ughhhh if I go to the game I'm gonna be a broke bitch. parking =$12.00 Gas=$15.00

matt in dc said...

@fkyer hater -- "We" can make fun of Ted Kennedy all we want, but we are not corporate radio execs with advertisers to please. If they suspended Madden for making an assasination joke about Bush or someone else, it'd be just as much justified -- by which I mean that they can suspend him whenever they like if they feel like he's prone to hurting their bottom line more than helping it once he goes past a certain poin.

eileenover said...

Where did you live Rachele? Cuz we could meet up and take one car. Plus I don't have a big problem paying for gas.

Parade? Don't you mean the Downtown Dash? If crime is as bad as I have heard, this will be the first parade to run it's route in under ten. I can see it now.. the wingdings having the ceremonial passing out of the bullet proof vests....putting poor Lord Stanley in a bulletproof glass case ala the popemobile....chelios bitching because he forgot his morning glass of prune juice....the few fans that show up throwing octopi at the wingdings...pavel scaring toddlers with his triangle shaped head.....osgood diving into the "crowd"(it's hard to have a crowd with 5-6 fans)....zetterburg wondering how to spell zetterburg...paulinmiamibeach dressed as Al the octopus...sounds like good times! Mark your calendars and make your reservations NOW!! That would be the do not miss event of the DECADE!!!

@Matt: He prolly sticks around here waiting to get kicked off the site like he has during every other series this year. Do a quick google search and you'll see he has been trolling for a few series now. I guess he didn't know about the Gore before this year so he couldn't have asked about stats while the Wings were being swept out in previous years.

racheleyos said...

I live on the other side of Pittsburgh from you. I come from Monroeville and onto the parkway. Meh!

eileenover said...

Hmm well letsgopsu if you tell your boss you're going to the game I'm sure they'll let you leave in time. Someone please go with me!

PS - I'm newly obsessed with Phil Vassar. Glad to hear his concerts rock it too!!

matt in dc said...

@eileen and rachel -- with apologies to dhudzin for sort of changing the rules in midstream, I think you guys are still first in line, even though you are a bidding group. Is that cool, Dave?

Eileen and Rachel -- please e-mail me at mattfwood at yahoo.com and we'll talk particulars. (I'm headed home right now from my good job, so I may not respond for the next hour or so.)

Staff, you didn't mention yinz were on a podcast with Eddy Spaghetti ... good podcast, though.

@Flyer Hater: That's why you are a c-blog hall of famer ... I don't think Madden would have been in such trouble if it wasn't a Kennedy, that being said, Ted would be in jail if he wasn't a Kennedy as well ...

Glad to be of service Hip! I highly recommend seeing Phil in concert if you have the opportunity. I have seen him 2-3 times in small concerts and twice at CD release parties. He seemed to favor the Boston area for his release parties when I lived there and you could get the new CD with an autographed booklet and a short concert for something like 10-15 bucks. That was just him and a piano with a very small audience. Very cool.

Might as well jump into musicblog, since we've been rehashing the same diving/refs/so and so sucks comments for the last 24 hrs.

Kiss - OH-VA-RATE-ED! Living in a town who's terrestrial stations tend to play Kiss (among several other favorites), nothing they have done has impressed me. Not "RNR All Nite", which is an absolute bore on GH3, not "I was made for loving you", not "Lick it up", nothing. Nothing post-makeup or pre-makeup. Could be that I grew up on a different type of music, and I'm not say that they're not talented, but to this day I can't get into em. However, to their credit, they can market like nobody's business. Nobody can remain successful for that long without a good business plan.

Cash - Didn't start getting into him until the American Recordings series. I only wish I would have followed him earlier. Having only listened to those CDs for the first year before he died, I then realized I have a ton of catching up to do in the Cash catalog. I've caught myself doing this for self-amusement a few times: play "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer" in a bar with a jukebox....back to back. After about 5 minutes, pay attention to people's expressions. It gets even better when the song starts over again after 9+ minutes.

Outside of Cash, J.S. doesn't do much country.

@j.j., good points on underwoodblog.

If I go this route and turn c-blog into "What are you currently listening to?", it could get ugly. Ah, screw it. I'll do it once...maybe 2x. Right now, it's Pennywise - Society.

Another one of paulspack chimes in. I thought he was alone on this one!!!

Here is another definition he falls under:

The Contrarian Troll. A sophisticated breed, Contrarian Trolls frequent boards whose predominant opinions are contrary to their own. A forum dominated by those who support firearms and knife rights, for example, will invariably be visited by Contrarian Trolls espousing their beliefs
in the benefits of gun control.

Sound like anyone we know???

Contrarian Warning Sign Number Four: Accusing the accusers. When
confronted with their trolling, trolls immediately respond that it is the accusers who are trolls.

Paulinmenonmiamibeach follows suit with this: thanks for proving you guys are Mutts.

Wow, this guy could be a case study for a psychologist studying internet trolls.

JYo said...

great insight. You should be a threat to take over Don Cherry's job any second.

Unfortunately, if he dressed like Grapes, we might not notice a difference, at least judging by the type of "analysis" he brings to SportsCenter in the US.

Pensgirl said...

Eileen I think Lukey Ravenstahl was the jinx - if you see him outside the building tie him to a lamppost and don't let him in!

eileenover said...

Will do!

JYo said...

I love USS Gill but I think he has been the weakest

The problem is, if he is out, get used to Jokestrom and Rented Mule setting up camp in front of Flower. It looks like Gill doesn't even have to put in much effort to move Jokestrom wherever he wants to. I don't know if anyone else can do that. Maybe Free Candy, but still, he is only one man. If anyone sits for Sydor, I'd make it Scuds. He has been solid, but he doesn't move bodies like Gill and he doesn't move pucks like LeGame.

letsgopsu said...

I'll tell Lukey that Malkin would make a better mayor, and he doesn't even like to give interviews in english...

paradeblog-every team in the finals of a sport does start some planning for a parade/celebration...BUT you do NOT let it basically become public. i remember one year here in SA the plan was laid out in the paper going by what had happened before. BAD IDEA! spurs went on to win, but fans were not happy about that kind of crap at all when the players from the other team got wind and started talking about it

countrymusicblog-growing in TX i'll admit it, i like it. but i'm more into the older stuff than the stuff of today that sounds too much like wannabe crossover pop with a twang guitar included. totally agree with whoever said that carrie underwood song about assualt is just stupid

boredomblog- i'm soooooooooo bored.

matt in dc said...

Pat Labute -- Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

That must have ranked among the all-time top 10 comebacks.

Right up there with "Ha ha."

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@jyo: Yeah, I know. Gonchar has been pushing people around lately, but he's not as physical. LeGame moves the puck beautifully and has great speed. Free Candy has great skating prowess as well ... Scuds has been playing the best out of the him and Gill, which upsets me if he would sit. I'll give it a while to see how everything goes. Therrien knows his team.

Kat said...

@ihk

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. You'd think having a D-man that moves the puck as well as Tangers would be what we need at this point. I don't see how putting Sydor in is going to help us any. We need to be faster not slower.

letsgopsu said...

I don't wanna see him sat, but if Sydor plays, Letang is the best option to sit on the bench. Gill is important in getting people away from Fleury, Scuds kills penalties, Whits has been playing well, so odd man out is Letang.

I just read this:

Shock jock Madden fired from station

Tuesday, May 27, 2008
By Bob Smizik, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Controversial talk-show host Mark Madden has been fired by ESPN. The decision was made at the network's corporate headquarters in Bristol, Conn.

It comes five days after Madden made an inflammatory statement about Sen. Edward Kennedy.

"We've taken Mark off the air pursuant to our contractual rights," said Josh Krulewitz, the network's vice president for public relations. On his radio show Wednesday, Madden said the following about Sen. Kennedy, who days earlier had been diagnosed with brain cancer:

"I'm very disappointed to hear Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts is near death because of a brain tumor. I always hoped Senator Kennedy would live long enough to be assassinated."

Madden was last heard on his show Thursday, the day before his comments appeared in the Post-Gazette.

I can't believe they canned him. I'm sure he'll get another show. I mean Don Imus did, and what Imus said was way more offensive. Madden got lamed by overly PC media. I guess Disney couldn't have anyone controversial under their umbrella of cotton candy and rainbows.

I wouldn't want any of those guys to sit. . .especially not Free Candy. Maybe Scuds. The thing is that out of all of them, he's the one who is most often SKATING HIS ASS OFF. I think his effort is the most admirable.
