House of Whore-ores. PENS LOSE.

OVERTIME

[ NHL.COM RECAP ]

The Rangers have come out of nowhere the past month or so to make a name for themselves.
They are coming together at the right time.

They were a desperate team in this game, and they got it done.

The Pens wanted to win.
The Rangers had to win.

As far as the Rangers postseason hopes go, their defense is solid as balls.

Unlike the whiny New York Media, their fans, and their team,
we aren't going to run the Rangers down, like they run the Penguins down.
All you can do is appreciate the hockey that went down Monday night.

Chris Drury is clutch, and clutch is everything.
But the Pens got a point, on the road.

Two games left.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

ANTHEM

[Ross S]

[Nick C]

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

FIRST PERIOD

If you didn't see the fans in the stands, you wouldn't even had known they were there early on.
Everyone in New York was most likely looking in the mirror and saying how awesome they were.

Things weren't physical early on, but that was gonna change.

Ruutu and Laraq-Timus Prime started mucking things up, and then the Rangers came alive as well.

[Captain Dummy]

Some solid back-and-forth hockey started taking place, except the Pens couldn't sniff the Rangers net.

Enough was enough.
Ryan Malone and Client 16 dropped the gloves.
Last year at this time, we would say that's a good trade-off.
But Malone did what he had to do.

No word yet if [ John Dellapenis ] is going to write a post
about Malone maybe diving after the fight.

The BlueJokes were the first team to take a trip to the box, when Pedro Gomez trips up Malkin.
The ensuing power play almost mattered.

After that display of mud, the Rangers were given their chance when Larauqe douches someone a second too late.
Somehow, that Rangers PP was more uneventful than the Pens' was.

Job job job job job.

Listening to Eddie Olczyk for this game was maybe one of the most annoying broadcasts of the season.
He was 31-64 as a head coach. His expert analysis means nothing.

Period ends.

Pens got one shot in that first period.
MAF was getting the job done.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

SECOND PERIOD

Why do intermissions always feel longer on Versus?

It felt like a brand-new start for the second.
Something just felt different, but it wasn't.

After the same kind of play from the first, Nigel Jobs was sprung on a breakaway out of nowhere.
MAF turned it away with ease.

It was still all Rangers after that.
Jagr got knocked down by Orpik. Probably the best non-call of the season.

The Rangers still kept coming, Big Ben striking 1:00 and 2:00 behind MAF,
with MSG about to explode.

Things started to get interesting when a scrum at the Pens net after a faceoff resulted in the Penguins going down 5-on-3.
That's pretty unprecedented for a team to go down two men when there's a scrum like that, but whatev.

Coach Therrien, your thoughts:

“On the 5-on-3, we watched the video. We can’t find the penalty,”
Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. “I don’t know where it came from.”

No word yet if [ John Dellapina ] will pen a column about how the Penguins dove on the way to penalty box and why it is Mario's fault.

Malone kicked off the Pens PK by going nuts, but eventually the Rangers got it down into the Pens zone.

And then it was controversy time.
Jagr unleashed a shot that popped up into the air.
Scott Gomez swung at it. 1-0.

The refs immediately signal no goal.
Time to go to the War Room.

The War Room was running on all cylinders, and they came up with the right call.

Scott Gomez swung at it, but Rob Scuderi, in trying to knock the puck out of there, hits Gomez's stick, and the puck plinkos off MAF's mask and into the net.
Solid work.

After that goal, it looks like the panic button was pressed, or maybe it was the experiment button, because HCMT threw Malkin-Crosby-Hossa onto the ice.

Well, they eventually drew a penalty.
That power play went to the wayside again.

And that was it.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

THIRD PERIOD

The Pens came out flying in the third, with Malone-Staal-Sykora almost putting one home.
The Rangers came storming back, then the Pens, then the Rangers.
Good hockey.

Jarkko Ruutu got sent to the box for a high stick.
Fedor Tyutin bought the call by snapping his head back.
[ John Dellapenis ] is already working on a column on why that penalty was actually Sidney Crosby's fault.

The Rangers couldn't get it going on the PP.
And Michal Rozsival gave the Pens their own PP, because he is poop.

This was it. A huge man advantage on the way.
Unreal job on the PK again by the Rangers.
Chris Drury was everywhere on the kill. King Henrik looked unbeatable.

Father Time's train was pulling into Penn Station underneath MSG with 10:00 left.
But never mind.

Jagr was coming through center ice.
He looks up and sees the van.

After Jagr gets run over, Brandon Dubinsky gives Orpik the how's-your-father.
This creates space.

BGL makes a sick pass to Talbot, who was on onside:

Thanks to Joe K, Brett W, and to Sean from [Going Five Hole]
for sending the video

Malone drives the net and gets it over to Max Talbot who bangs it home. 1-1.
Talbot's celebration is what life is all about.

rahhh

Orpik wasn't done, hitting Nigel Jobs on his next shift.

As the third period hit the homestretch, we receive word that Brendan Shanahan had a lower-body injury and may return.
That's the nice way to say he got his period.

The Pens almost got their own plinko, when a shot by Malkin almost floated the biscuit into the net behind King Henrik, but no dice.

[Justin G]
Maybe one of the funniest photoshops we have ever received

What a goaltender. No question about it.

Why do you have a Sidney Crosby?
Because he makes opposing players do stupid things, like getting a stick up in his face.
Sean Avery tries to crosscheck Crosby's throat, but his blade eventually found Bing's cheek.
That's a penalty every day of the week.
The gall of Crosby. He bought that one, man.

With less than 5:00 left, the ensuing power play had the chance to alter someone's week.

Crosby was boo-free all game.
It took Crosby getting a stick in the face for the MSG clowns to start booing him.
It just doesn't make sense.

That power play felt good, but again, it was thwarted by the Rangers.
Give it up for them. They're fighting for their lives.

As the game dipped to under a minute left, The Big Three simply took over.
Just tenacious work along the boards.
Malkin was eventually set up with a nice chance, but no dice.
Hossa's pass was money in the bank.

[Nate R]

With about 30 seconds left, Malone drives to the net, with no regard for his own life.
Sykora almost knocks it home.
Marty Straka gets the puck out, and then a weight machine fell on his face.

The game was headed to overtime, and the Rangers got a huge point.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

OVERTIME

24 seconds into the OT, Gonchar had to grab ahold of Jagr.
Maybe he didn't, 'cause this isn't 1999, but still.
Can't blame Gonch. OT is where Double J has made his living.

During the first half of the kill, Talbot made an unreal diving play to take the heat out of a hot kitchen.

But you just knew it was coming.
Unless MAF had supernatural ability, he wasn't gonna see that shot.
Chris Drury is deadly.

Game. 2-1.

STATS
  • Rangers: 20 vaginas
  • Talbot: 1G
  • MAF: 25 saves

MISCELLANEOUS
  • We don't know much, but we know that dwelling on this game is meaningless.
  • Rangers/Pens would make for an unreal playoff series.
  • Avery is paid to fight. Malone is paid to score.
  • Avery is also a douchebag.
  • 100 points. Two years straight.
  • One point away from clinching the division.
  • Versus graphics are wayyyyyyyyy too big.
  • Orpik is a beast.
  • Happy April.
  • Kudos to all the commentors for defending C-blog.
  • WWGRD.
Nothing special for April Fool's Day.
The Ranger fans coming here to gloat will satisfy our Fool Quota for the 2008 calendar year.

My life is complete after seeing the Henrik Dough Boy photoshop. Thank you. MSG ice = Ritas water ice. It looked like players were getting sniped all night.

I'm not even sweating this one.

But in the past 48 hours we have learned that HOT DAMN the Rangers are playing some defense.... and Lundqvist is good too (I guess in Sweden you can just toss a "v" after a fucking "q"). Sure he only had to stop one shot the first 27 minutes of the game, but I'm sure that one save was amaing....

Good thing about this game: If the Rangers win, it lessens the chances that we see these douches in an early round playoff series.

Fleury's insane. Former MAF doubters = Newly christened retards. And I should know because I at one point doubted the man, therefore I am now retarded.

Finally, congrats to the Pittsburgh Buccos!! They got their first of 65 wins tonight!!!

Glad my DVR choked on this game and didn't record it. I have the tv programmed to reject any and all hints of vaginitis. MSG is overflowing with it.

Shanny's lower body injury?? I guess Avery forgot to take his teeth out before going to work.
D'oh! Stupid Avery.

How much for client 16 to take out Lundqvist, too?

jackedlobster said...

what is wrong with our powerplay..with the talent we have, we should be scoring 2 goals per powerplay...instead we don't even get shots off

Stoosh said...

Take a look at the Nigel Dawes breakaway photo.

Check out the dude in the white shirt just above the "G" in GEICO, who apparently didn't get the memo that he was at a hockey game and not a three-hour microeconomics lecture.

That very well might be that "Christopher" douche who spent the better part of three hours crapping all over himself in the Gameday thread trying to argue with the rest of c-blog. Given all the vast knowledge he dropped, he's definitely the type to be sitting there with his hands folded, bored to tears during one of the most exciting plays in hockey.

JACKEDLOBSTER - Thank the Rangers and that soul-sucking SOB Tom Renney for shutting down the Pens power play. He's got them playing that collapsing defensive scheme were he practically tethers a defenseman to each post with a five-foot lead.

When the Pens were setting up, their defenseman play incredibly tight to Lundqvist. In effect, it almost sets up a wall of bodies in front of the net to block the point shots, and because the Pens wings are already starting a bit wide, the Rangers defensemen have an easier time corralling rebounds and dumping them down the ice. Renney's system does a good job of eliminating second chances.

They basically do the same thing on even strength, probably because their defensemen all blow when it comes to moving the puck, so they can't afford to get into a run-and-gun game. Instead, they play that collapsing defense, take away all the opposing team's chances, hope to capitalize off a few obligatory power plays or turnovers and then sit back and win 2-1.

The key to beating the Rangers is getting the first goal and then forcing them to actually skate or, you know...play hockey.

Talking about the powerplay not scoring is like beating a dead horse. That has been a problem since last year. You kind of learn to accept it.

Ranger fans sure can come up with some good nick names."Cindy Crosby" for example is pure gold.

Oh well, they are still fighting for a solid spot in the playoffs.

Anybody else catch how many times Edzo slipped in that he was fired by the Pens?

It's just really awkward.

I either mentioned this in gamedaychat or here, but Edzo's constant blabbering of his old position reminds me of the kid who once dated the prom queen and was dumped after two weeks.

Three words: get over it. Last night's game was almost painful to listen to, thanks to him. No wait, it was painful to listen. Thanks Edzo, thanks for nothing.

Second, the Double J photoshop is life affirming. 1995 WWF represnt!
If I can get a Diesel or Mabel or Hakushi reference, I might die of a stroke.

Lundqvist is a maniac.

Fleury = Zeus.

How about BGL decided to rejoin the NHL after taking last six or seven weeks off. His hit on Mara and pass to set up Talbot's goal made the guards outside Buckingham Palace crack a smile.

Rangers fans masturbate in their own soiled pink panties while dreaming of Maccauley Culkin in "Home Alone"

I will say I've learned something from them though: apparently it is impossible to high stick Sid. Indeed, it seems that nothing one does to the man should draw a penalty.

I realize that seeing him skate in and around four of your players like they're orange cones used for practice drills can induce jealousy, but try to have some dignity. A good first step would be to find a real team.

Hard to be disappointed with yesterday's game. Two points would have been nice, but since the team forgot that they played three periods instead of just one, it could have been a lot worse.

MAF is so solid these days. I've always been a supporter and it's nice to see him come into his own, because if there is one thing I love to do, it's say "I told you so."

Pensblog staff: regarding your Stats - Rangers = 20 vaginas. As a woman & hockey fan I am insulted. I know at least 20 tough 75 year old ladies from Wilmerding that would don their red hats, unlace the Rangers blue pajama tops, gag them and toss their whining asses into Turtle Creek (with a smile, I might add.)

LeGame sitting out a couple games might pay dividends in the playoffs...everyone remember what happened to Geno 'Amber Alert' Malkin v. the Sens ???
Maybe HCMT is just going back to his 'rotating defensemen' bit which he never really used in the 1st place.

Whitney not being mentioned in todays [solid recap, once again] post...that could be a good thing, right?...I thought he played a solid game last night [not as solid as the Rags d & their GAA, but pretty close], much better defensively than most of the season.

Hall & Roberts potentially back in the lineup in a few days: anticipationblog

but, who would draw the short sticks?? Taffe? Laraque?

Would it be wise to upset team Chemistry this late in the season? [although Gary invented the science known as 'Chemistry' and all fields associated with it]

although MSG is the 'mecca' of all arenas...you'd think they would've been able to create better camera positions to view more than 2/3 of the icesurface or construct the seats so that row 1 is not half way up the glass. Anyone else notice the lack of any intensity on our powerplay during this dry spell? All five our guys seem to be lazy and just going through the motions. This is when we need to be hungriest, because not many 5-on-5 goals are scored in the playoffs. We still only look for two plays: The Malkin Destructo-Blast and the snap-pass to Whitney. I'm sorry, but Whitney is not putting that away this season, I saw we get LeGame back out on the 1st unit to open up the slapper from the other point. Teams are just guarding against Malkin and Gonchar one-timers.

or something similar...come playoff time, I think 2 good units would work better most of the time...under dire circumstances [being down a goal late] would I use the ├╝ber-unit...

Sidney the Buttfucker said...

Hi guys, I'm back!!

Did you all miss me??

Ok, listen, I wanted to drop in just to kind of apologize for some of the comments I made last night.

Here's the deal. I have absolutely nothing against the Pens or against Crosby. After Sunday's game, one of our beat writers (Dellapenis as your blog so cleverly names him, which, I must admit, made me laugh) wrote a blog post mistakenly indicating that Crosby was never hit with the stick, as well as commenting on the officiating in general that game, which you have to admit did favor you guys, just as yesterday's tended to favor us. So this guy posts this blog entry (which, let me add, is just that, a blog entry, meant for Rangers fans, it's not like it was a newspaper article that was distributed everywhere.) and all of a sudden, as us Rangers fans are mourning the loss, a whole ton of Pens fans appear and basically just litter the entire blog with insults about us, our team, that beat writer, etcetera, etcetera.

Needless to say it was really, really fucking annoying. In my eyes, there was absolutely no reason for the "invasion". It's a Rangers blog, meant for Rangers fans, why should you guys even care what it says?

Anyway, I was still rather heated yesterday, so I decided to come here and just post some of the most outlandish things I could possibly come up with in a moments notice, thus my nickname, which I know at least some of you find comical.

Bottom line: I have no "beef" you any of you, with your team (which is scary as hell, btw), or with Crosby himself. Obviously all the criticism of Crosby is due in part to jealousy, but I really do think there is a general sense out there that the league lets him get away with more than the average player, the perfect example in our eyes would be the play on Sunday when Jagr was called for a penalty for holding I believe (or it might've been hooking), and when VS showed the replay they showed Crosby standing behind Backman in front of the net, and Crosby was literally repeatedly crosschecking Backman while the ref stood behind them both and looked on, only to turn away and instead call a penalty on Jagr all the way across the ice.

But I digress, that was an example of what makes people so angry, it's not meant to start a whole new round of shit here.

So anyway, I apologize if I offended anyone, my purpose was simply to have those that invaded our blog Sunday know what it feels like when an opposing fan comes into your blog after a loss and gloats about it.

Best of luck to you all in the playoffs. Maybe we'll see you in the Conference Finals.

Flyer Hater said...

^Still a joke. Don't buy it.

The Seeker said...

I replayed a portion of the game just trying to find the penalties that lead to the 5 on 3 and still can't figure out how we got them.

If you call Whitney there for roughing, there should have been at least an offsetting roughing on one Ranger. Similar scrums happen all the time without anyone ever getting called. The hooking call is a complete phantom call out of nowhere. It seems it was decided AFTER the scrum was broken-up even though it would have had to have happened before that...yet no official's arm was raised???

I'm not whining, but when you consider how the Rags fans cry about the Penguins getting phantom calls (even though we don't score on the ensuing penalty) I just had to check it out.

Flyer Hater said...

Seeker, the reason that Whitney had to rough someone up in the first place was because that blind baffoon Devorski didn't blow the play dead when Fleury obviously had the puck frozen. So Whits is just trying to do his job because a ref is incompetent and gets penalized for it.

Give me Koharski any day.

Sidney the Buttfucker said...

turkleton, wow, are you really that bitter and immature?

here I am apologizing, yet you have to continue to throw out insults? and you really wonder why some of us were angered by what you guys did Sunday?

as for the "getting in", we need 2 points in three games, two against the Isles, one against the Devils. Or if the Caps lose in regulation tonight, we're in. We are in.

The Seeker said...

Your "beat" writer is a fucking moron.

The jerks that attempted to come here were no better. They couldn't even make a valid point.

Yeah I know FH.....I guess what I'm trying to say is that there was plenty of roughing going on by both sides that they should have offset or just not been called at all.

That's hockey and 9 times out of 10 there's no call at all in that scrum.

seeker, that is exactly what you're a sad individual.

whatever, I can see I'm dealing with a bunch of children.

fuck you, then.

Maybe I'm wearing rose shaded glasses, but just let the guy apologize. ;)

Thanks for the SB info, Dr. T!

My 2 cents-
I think we have a lot more pressing matters to worry about than this guy, whose team "may or may not" get in the playoffs. Let's get down to business.

STB

The reason no one is going to accept your apology is because you don't really apologize. You say "I'm sorry I came over here and yada yada yada'ed, but..." and then you make a subtle case about how it was justified, thereby not really apologizing at all. And if you really think you're argumentation is vastly superior to the "children" on here, why do you even bother returning?

m. vanderlasser - SB is really not a place you go to eat, but rather drink before the game. Or after if you are really hard core. It's usually packed on game days so get there early if you want a seat.

I can remember going there when we were in the heat of the arena battle and just thinking how awful it must have been for the owners of that place. If the Pens had left Pittsburgh, there would have been so many businesses screwed. Including them and the 5th Ave Pub.

Let's Go Pens!

I agree that it's no Steelhead, food-wise...but if you want something other than pizza or spending $$$ for some chicken fingers at the Steelhead...the Souper Bowl & their grub isn't that bad as an alternative...their Ruben is good, IMO [although, it seems like their prices have gone up a bit as the season has progressed]

I don't think it was the Crosby stuff that made anyone here mad. We're used to that, though it never gets any less retarded. It was the ridiculous bashing of Lemieux that drew the vast majority of the ire.

The guy is revered among Pens fans. Kind of like Messier or Richter or whoever in the hell Rangers fans revere. He has saved our franchise multiple times, none of which were the fault of the fans, despite the clever insinuations otherwise.

The guy didn't just whine about the Rags not getting the calls. He took shots at the entire Pens franchise, how it is run, and our most beloved player of all time. Yet Pens fans aren't supposed to respond to that because it's a "Rangers blog?" The internet is free space. If you're going to write something, be prepared to defend your point or don't have a comments section.

Of course, since the guy backpedalled faster than Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France, I guess he wasn't all that prepared to defend it.

But whatev. I don't think anyone here is crying over the "invasion." The cut-and-paste guy was annoying, but that was mostly because he couldn't even take thirty seconds and come up with something witty.

I love when Edzo talks about how he coached the team and then how he was fired. I laughed ... really, Edzo, we know. All that time, I suffered. He kept talking up all the guys that were there when we played, well, you didn't draft them and couldn't coach 'em.

@j.s.22: I know everyone steals that "Cindy Crosby," but a girl's can be named Sidney, too. And well, he is the best player in the world so while you attempt to make fun of him, he'll continue winning and being better at life than you.

What happened on yesterday's blog? I check today because I never go on Penguins websites on gameday, and idiots attack. Did the Rangers fans just learn of Gore or what? I love how the one guy kept reposting their GAA and asking why no one responded when Seeker did. I guess, he ignored you. Why are they complaining about nothing? They won ... I don't go on Rangers sites and bash, but now, I'm up for it. So, Malone lost a fight ... he was probably blinded by the orange glowing off of Avery at the end. Man, what a fag. Avery fell on Malone and claimed victory. Wow, feel proud, so that's what he learned from the hookers when they tried to push him away. Got it. What was with that Sidney butt kid? Does he realize Crosby was checking half their team? Why do they think that we think we are entitled to the championship? I mean, we are in the run, but doesn't mean victory. Who are the has-beens and no names on our team? Gonchar is actually a potential winner for Norris, he isn't going to win because of someone on the Red Wings, though. Okay, I saw a guy on their team who looked heavier and had a mustache. I had no idea where he came from, room to talk. I love that he said "You're all so pathetic, sad people." I usually think of people as pathetic who have to justify their team's win against us by going on an opposing team's blog to say our team sucks. Dude, you = pathetic. Why were they dissing Talbot's goal? It was great, and everyone did their job on that play. It was well executed. Was it because we tied the game and forced them in OT? I don't understand ... I guess you can't fix stupid. "Dru put the nail in the coffin." You won it OT, didn't you? You didn't win by 4 or 5 points, just 1. Me acting as Ranger fan ... "Oh, we are really in 4th, but it says in the standings fifth." Well, I guess they should be saying, "Well, I am really smart, but I haven't graduated from elementary school yet." Shut up. We get it, your team won. Dance, celebrate, do whatever you Ny'ers do. Don't bother me when I don't bother you.

I'm so sorry I wrote that entire thing. I just got really pissed off at imbeciles.

Slapshot is the best movie ever created. Paul Newman is the best actor, only Gary Roberts could give a better performance. Dr. Turkelton, you are genius. And of course Stoosh, who is a C-Blog Hall of Famer.

Coffeytalk, I haven't told you, but your name is awesome. I have been too busy discussing other things and haven't mentioned that. Coffey and SNL = Gold. Much better than my dorky name.

Why was Letang a healthy scratch? He has been amazing and I missed his awesomeness. Maybe, Sydor should sit if MT doesn't want Whit to. BTW Flower is awesome!

@ Joe: If that isn't true, I'm betting there will be murders at the PG building from angry fans.

Have a happy April Fools Day (considering I still see some...)

In Malkin (And Malone) I Still Trust!

thanks for the apology, although really it was only that "christopher" that was being completely ridiculous. if i didn't want people to trash talk anonymously, i wouldn't hang out on the interwebs. pretty simple.

also the beef with the blogger was that he bashed lemieux for no apparent reason other than rangers fans would lap that shit up. everybody who is a pens fan expects jealousy of crosby, but lemieux more or less saved hockey in pittsburgh and is off limits.

Don't accept any apologies...it's April Fools Day!!!

sounds like the perfect set up if you ask me!

I refuse to call STB by that name so from now on, I'm calling him On Messier's Dick.

So OMD, you come here and apologize in a very self-serving way an then moments later say, "seeker, that is exactly what you're a sad individual.

whatever, I can see I'm dealing with a bunch of children.

fuck you, then."

That's why noone took your apology serious and why I rightfully called you a joke, joke.

Somehow I deleted both comments when i meant to only delete one.

Anyway, i, ALSO, missed tPB yesterday and apparently missed a lot. I might read it all, i'm not sure, but from the sampling i read, everyone did a great job of defending tPB. Great job!

WWGRE? (Where Would Gary Roberts Eat?) The Souper Bowl, that's where. That's all you need to know about it- other than where it is at.

If you're interested in winning some stuff from the Pens or want to tell them would you think about the broadcasts, go here.
