Gary Roberts = Stunned

KDKA reports that a Ron Cook column in Tuesday's Post-Gazette will say that Roberts has had a major setback in his rehab of a broken leg.

He has torn ligaments in his ankle, and may be out until March 27th, or may not return at all.

That sucks.

What also sucks is that the Flyers got Vinny Prospal from the Lightning for a minor league defenseman a 2009 draft pick and a bag of pucks. I was actually kind of hoping that the Pens would pick him up because he fills that need for a goal scoring left wing for Sid. He is pretty cheap at about 2mil a year but the downside is he is a UFA after this season. Whatev, he is gone now.

And Forsberg went back to the Avalanche? After all the talk of him not coming back at all. Waste of money.

I just hate The Flyers.

I THINK that Fedko said that Fleury is starting tomorrow. Either way, he started jobbing Fleury already.

Fuck you Fedko. Choke on vomit.

wwgrd? i would cut off his leg and attach a bionic on and then the entire league would be on eggshells. for all we know he could potentially grow a new one. may the wicked come alive for when he returns he will show them what hell is all about. viva la roberts! everybody say a goodnight prayer.

In the words of Clay Davis: "Sheeeeeeit".

Somehow, someway, I can not accept this. Roberts is not going to be out for too long. He is going to be running unsuspecting defenseman through the end boards long into May and June. He is. I just know it.

I dont know how i'm going to sleep tonight. I'm more excited than an 8 yr old at christmas! Even if the Pens don't make a move, this is always exciting.

Now that Roberts may not return for the season, does that free up his money? I am not sure about how that works.

IF SO, does this become a "fortuitous bounce?" Excuse me for blasphemy, but if it frees up some cash, then maybe it is a good thing to sign someone that they "need"?

i could be an idiot also...who knows?

stokes: You're not an idiot but that is pretty blasphemous.

I understand the CBA pretty well but I don't pretend to be a legal expert on it.

Anyways, players on the IR (like Roberts has been) DO count against the salary cap. Only players on the long term injury list (like Mike Rathje is for philly) don't count against the cap. Getting designated as a LTI is kinda tricky and pretty rare, I believe, I doubt the Pens would bother since Roberts is a UFA at season's end and he's pretty much counted against them the whole season anyhow.

Pittsburgh's bigger issue isn't fitting under the cap but staying under the team mandated budget. I could have sworn somewhere that they're currently operation a couple million under the maximum payroll they want to be at, so they should have the thumbs up to acquire more salary if they need to.

So maybe the timing of this isn't so bad. But the news really is shocking.

Thanks Hooks. I didn't think it would free up cash, but i wasn't sure. I apprecaite it.

I'm definitely going to say my prayers tonight so GR doesn't hunt me down and kill me with his mind bullets.

Hindsight being 20/20, i guess it shouldn't be a surprise because you really didn't hear shit about him. From Cook's column, it sounds like some doctors dropped the ball. Im not a doctor, and i'm not asking for their heads, but man, does that SUCK.

I want to see shero pull something off, I'm just not sure what.

I think we can afford to give away some draft picks for a rental player.

It's a cover. Gary Roberts is needed by the Feds for some top secret work. James Bond kind of stuff.

I'm surprised that Ron Cook even wrote the article about Gary.

He must have drawn the short straw on who gets to write about Alan Faneca and what a shame and who cares.

I hate the Post Gazette.

I am pleased to report that Gary Roberts has pitthockey on his "to do" list.
He wouldn't kill me. I am too cute.

Sleep with one eye open, pitthockey!!
