Second Fiddle

We'd complain about the lack of Pens coverage by the Pittsburgh media in reference to the start of training camp, but it really is a dead horse.
  • KDKA did have a nice interview with Lord Therrien.
  • WPXI covered Rick Walsh trying to makeout with a Steeler.
  • WTAE doesn't even exist.
In the end, it is easier just to pretend that everyone who doesn't care about the Pens is eating poop.

Speaking of poop....

Yahoo breaks through with another horribly written article. [ Yahoo ]

"The Penguins ran through conditioning tests Thursday at the South Side facility where the Pittsburgh Steelers practice. Not surprisingly, some Penguins gave into temptation and picked up some footballs and began tossing and kicking them on the Steelers' indoor practice field."

"We've got some skill that's exciting," forward Maxime Talbot said -- and he wasn't referring to football.

The writer needs to go back to Journalism 101.
That wrap-up is why people cut themselves.

Speaking of people cutting themselves, journalism, poop, and the Steelers,
CW had some Steeler show on.

The girl that works for Steelers TV will go down as one of the worst broadcasters in the history of television.

Says who, you ask?

Patrice King Brown and Ron Newcomer.
That's who.

Gotta like the red shoulders on the away jerseys.

And we finally get a look at the Oilers jersey.
GM Kevin Lowe wants to sign the elbow bands to a two-year deal.

It really doesn't feel like it, but the Sharks, Sabres, and Oilers are the only teams remaining to officially unveil their jerseys.

We have heard that they may be showing the preseason games.

Whoops. No St. Louis preseason game there.

Send an email to this address if you are interested in going:
icebowl2008@yahoo.com

This is the email that the people coordinating the trip for Pens fans can be reached.
So far, they told us that about 200 people have confirmed.

  • The early plan is, they will be renting a bus to go up there, maybe even two.
  • You will need to tell them how many tickets you need as well.
  • They are also working on setting up a PayPal account to order the tickets all together, to save money on group tickets.
Now, that is the hazy part. Because apparently the Sabres are being shady.
No one is sure if they're just waiting for the official announcement, or if they're just being dicks.

Needless to say, if you are interested, contact that email.
There is also a [ MySpace page ]

You'll be hard-pressed to find a Pens fan who doesn't like Darius Kasparaitis from his days as a Penguin.
He lives forever because of Game 7 in Buffalo.

However, these videos may change your life.
Watch Kaspar wait for the referee to turn up ice and then proceed to douche Mario.

This next one doesn't look so bad because
a) Jagr sees it just in time to mostly avoid it.
b) a lot of people hate Jagr.

Regardless, Lemieux was all smiles after Kaspar scored in Game 7.

I am just flabbergasted at the lack of coverage of training camp by the local media. I can't believe it. It makes me so angry. Yadda, yadda, yadda...

There was a pretty decent article written by TPB's second-favorite post-gazette columnist. Lots of quotes from our favorite man-crush, encouraging stuff.

i didnt know it was possible to turn a hockey article into a football article. what a joke.
but speaking of yahoo, anyone interested in a pensblog fantasy hockey league?

good god, massive nhl preview up at tsn.ca

small typo on the pens page

+/- Leader: Jordan Staal - 168

whoops.

oh here's another typo

"By acquiring Laraque last February, the Penguins have an enforcer who will make teams think twice about knocking around No. 87 - and the team will have his services for the full 82 games."

what?

If you do not love Kaspar, you're a joke....Jobbing people is how he made a name for himself and Mario clearly gave him a cross-check to start the whole fiasco. No one messes with Mario, but clearly #11 isn't afraid. That alone shows he's worth his stripes.

More Pens fans than Sabres at the Ice Bowl? Realistic possibility, count me in.

Sprint Center is pretty nice but I'm glad that it isn't the Penguins' home... or there would have been murders.

Haven't heard anything about an exhibition game in KC this year but those things are mud. They never had any players I'd ever heard of and, obviously, St. Louis is always the "home" team and the Penguins never come in to be the "away" team.

I did see a cute family all dressed in Penguins jerseys there one year, though.

Let's go Pens!

Can anyone give the low-down on the difference between the NHL Network and Center Ice?

Is Comcast offering both of these? Or is Center Ice going away?

The Hebrew Hammer said...

NHL Network coming to comcast...WOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nathan said...

The NHL Network is similar to the NFL Network or NBA TV; the Center Ice package features the local FSN/RSN feeds of (usually) the home team, but it's just the games themselves, with no extra NHL coverage. I have the Center Ice package, since I can't exactly get FSN Pittsburgh in Richmond.

And anyone headed to Raleigh for the Pens' opener on October 5, I'll be in section 304, Row J. They're getting smarter there, I finally got heckled two years ago, but I've been going to see the Pens there since about 2001.

LET'S GO PENS!

so, i like this more than center ice. you get the channels all the time so if you want to watch the pre/post game you can. and its like $12 a month so its a little cheaper over 12 months than center ice is.

the media friends of the steelers will not mention the penguins until they make a playoff run this year.

Ah, but I don't have DirecTV. Can't plant a dish at my apartment complex. I know that the games themselves used to be blacked out on the sports channels, but that was before the lockout, so I don't know if the blackout rules have since changed.

Jonny V said...

Jay, you whine too fucking much. Shut the fuck up about media coverage already. I'm sick and tired of reading your bitching about Steeler coverage every time u fucking post. At least register your name so you're not anonymous so i know to skip over your incessant fucking whining.

Hey Jeffry,

I live near Philly and tried to get just the sports package only to find out that Comcast blacks them all out in my area. Therefore, I had to get Center Ice and now the only games I don't get are when Philly and Pittsburgh play each other and in that case I just go to the local bar to watch.

Jeffry said...

i never had a problem with that on the sports package. maybe im stealing it or something?

Um, pretty much what u just did there? It's a PENGUINS message board, with training camp finally fucking underway, with plenty of storylines concerning the team, see my first post link at top. And this douche keeps posting week after week complaining about the local media's Steelers coverage. Suck me sideways if you're offended with my comments and/or language. Let the Steelers go. Expecting Pittsburgh to not be gaga over the Steelers is like expecting Lindsey Lohan to not mimic Scarface's climactic scene with all the coke. She loves the stuff. A lot. Let us not speaketh of this stupid fucking topic anymore, and just enjoy the fantastic voyage the boys are going to take us on. We'll think of finding relevant articles like a treasure hunt, with the treasire being the satisfaction that there is, indeed, positive print in existence of our team of flightless water-fowl. Like several have mentioned...drop the puck !!!!111!!
