Being this is really our first full season to get a crack at previewing teams, we decided to contact other bloggers to have them tell the stories of their respective team's season.
We will be running a team per day, possibly two teams, all through September.

..................................................................

First up is Roy Mahlberg.
He runs Wild Puck Banter, which is as solid as it gets when it comes to team blogs.

Division: Northwest
2006-07: ( 48 - 26 - 8 ) 104 points
Playoffs: 7th Seed
Finish: Eliminated by Anaheim in first round (4-0)

Leaders:
Marian Gaborik -- Pavol Demitra
( 30G - 27A - 57P ) -- ( 25G - 39A - 64P )

Niklas Backstrom
41 GP: 23W - 8L
1.97 GAA

The Wild's season, as per most teams, depends on the health of their superstar.
With Marian Gaborik in the lineup they're a legit Cup contender. Without him, they're a borderline playoff team. If he stays healthy, he'll near the 50 goal mark and garner some Hart conversation. He makes the Wild their only serious scoring punch and without him
they fall.

Nothing significant has been added in terms of incoming players, with perhaps the exception of Petr Kalus, a young forward who came over in the Manny Fernandez trade from Boston.
Kalus and former first round picks James Sheppard and Benoit Pouliot will contend for roster spots this fall.

In goal, I can see Nicklas Backstrom starting 60 games and backup Josh Harding playing around 20. Backstrom should be solid and give the team a chance to win nearly every night. Harding is this team's future starter, albeit 2 years away.

Look for the Wild to win the Northwest Division this year and make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

................................................

Pensblog Take:

The Wild aren't going to be a team you pick on NHL08 to impress your friends.
But believe it -- this team is as solid as it gets.
Gaborik only played in 48 games last year and still scored 30 goals.
Their defensive system is what life is all about.
Niklas Backstrom may be a breakout goalie this year.
His GAA last year was lower than Lance Armstrong's semen count.

We aren't big on making predictions, but it will be fun to see how big of jerks we look like after the season.

Official predictor of Pensblog, Nostradamus, says:

Wild will finish 4th in the West and make a deep run into the playoffs.

Some of us remember that teams other than the Pens exist in the NHL and like to actually, you know, know something about them.

I give at least a shit and a half about it.

I thought that clown saying the Wild would make it to the Stanley Cup finals was the biggest joke until I saw these comments.

Barrasso35 said...

I know this has nothing to do with the Wild. I know this, okay, but holy fuck balls... the sheer douche-a-tude of this picture defies the laws of physics.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you John Fedko (with moustache) and Ron Newcomer.

Got DAMN!

And already this comment train is ruined. Good post gentlemen, I enjoyed it. And we all know Kenny has the hots for Debra Burke.

PittPensFan said...

That is, until Tommy B saved it.

I don't even know where to start.

This link should work

hahahahhahah oh man I didn't even see that pic..

Honestly we might have to start running Ron Newcomer blog

Wild are making west finals

Why were my comments deleted? I made no inflammatory comments towards anyone here. I was just expressing my opinion. I guess in Third Reich blog that's not allowed. Sorry to Himmler and Eichmann. I'm sure you guys have no idea who those two are so look them up.

Ming the Merciless said...

or u can lick my balls

PittPensFan said...

The staff are not Himmler or Eichmann. They are Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, protecting the people from those who wish to sabotage.

wilsmith said...

^ Fact.

Staff said...

Hey Kenny,

Your comments were deleted because you are trying to sabotage every post for no reason at all.
I think you got your thoughts off, with your first post, but then you kept going.

You are entitled to say whatever you want, but when you step over the line, and just relentlessly try to job, it is getting deleted.
If you don't like previews, simply do not read them.
If you don't like the content, write on your own blog.

I am not judging you at all, and we always welcome your feedback.

But just because you are pissed off, don't come in here, and try to pick fights and start trouble.
It is not fair.
And it is not happening anymore.

I know this is a tired act everyone.
But we are done putting up with this.

Peace

Those shorts are very creepy.

PittPensFan said...

Add "on.html" to the end of that URL. I don't know what happened to it.

Hooks Orpik said...

staff, you got the Wild winning atleast two rounds in the playoffs this spring? Wow, that's bold.

I guess anything could happen but still. Bold

Staff said...

Hooks,

I think I have talked myself into them.
Reading all these previews, people are convincing.
I just think that their goalie is sick..

I cannot wait to use this comment in may, when we are recapping predictions

Staff said...

Hi everyone.

Kenny Melvin finally sealed the deal with us.
So we will be changing some things up with commentorblog, so we can phase him out of our lives.
So bare with us.
Thanks,

Pensblog

Wow it's a shame one douche can have this affect. F him

Don K. Show said...

Is he why the comments got whacked in the other section?

Don K. Show said...

and I'm still standing by my comments that Ron Newcomer is only an alias for former Pirates pitcher Lee Tunnell

Jeff said...

No comment on anything except:

I'm hoping I get to pose with Ron Newcomer for Christmas.

Hebrew Hammer said...

Wow Ron Newcomer is definitely my new hero. If you can get a picture with both Steigerwalds at the same time, you're all right in my book.

Staff said...

Yea Melvin snapped.
We hate to do this, but he is making people miserable.
There is always going to be jobbers.
Which we don't mind.
But he was out of control.
We are working on something else that will still not let Melvin in ever again.

rachel said...

Don, KM is the reason why the comments are gone for the previous post. I do see the resemblance of the two.

Jeff, don't we all want to get a pic with that stud, haha.

Staff, thank you! He was starting to really bother me.

Stoosh said...

Pensblog staff,

I didn't see any of what happened, but "Melvin snapped" is enough. Pretty much everyone here tried to be cool with him after his last two or three meltdowns. Let the clown continue his hate-mongering and asinine Hitler-isms on his own blog. Thanks for cleaning this up.

canaanregulatesblog said...

omg. that mark malone picture is effin incredible.

::writes 'awesome mark malone shorts' on a list of things to get while out and about::

Three Stars said...

Time for the traditional South Park reference: "Oh my god, you killed Kenny! You jobbers!!"

Anonymous said...

We'll miss you, Kenny

Staff said...

I feel better already now that melvin is gone, and we have a better idea we are working on.

Adrienne said...

I find this Ron Newcomer a frightening individual. Damn.

I'm scared for the Penguins jersey release :( If they raped our jerseys as badly as Tampa raped theirs, I'm going to be a very sad panda.

Lloyd said...

Can i get an addendum to the TPB take on the Wild? I would like to know where they will finish in the Northwest. I'm making a sheet with all the predictions for the upcoming season.

rachel said...

Adrienne, negative thoughts do not help ;) Is anyone going to the jersey release at the Mills?

Staff said...

Lloyd,

We are going to say second.
It is going to blow up in our face

Three Stars said...

They're not changing the colors or the logo. As long as the new jersey looks vaguely recognizable as a Pittsburgh Penguin jersey (and from the leak, it does) I'm fine with it.

Lloyd said...

Thank you kindly, I'm just putting this all in one place for future 'blow-up-in-face'ness.

I'll either post a link that will always be updated or just provide you with a new pic every time it is updated.

AdamG said...

I don't mean to pile on but I'm glad to hear that this is the last of KM on PensBlog. He is honestly the reason that I rarely comment or even read commentor-blog anymore. Keep up the good work gentlemen.

Ming the Merciless said...

Stoosh, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Canaan, i think the thing that completes that Malone pic is the old gym-teacher looking posture he got going on.

And honestly, does anyone really think that the jerseys that were leaked aren't going to be our actual jerseys?

Barrasso, is that your actual license plate? Fucking represent!

And next to the draft, this has been the best day of the off-season so far.

Ken, i'm not gonna call u names, or drop expletives, but dude, if u read this...Really work on your people skills. I made a joke a week ago about u becoming another Remy from Higher Learning, but in all seriousness kid, I don't wanna hear about u doing some dumb shit. Get your priorities in order, get through your last year or whatever of school, and find a path in life. And instead of trying to piss people off, try making them laugh instead. This world's fucked up enough.

glad to hear commentorblog may be returning to normal. shit has definitely gotten out of hand 'round here.

and i'm loving the team previews...even if it only means we're about a month away from hockey!! finally!!

and for a laugh....Ron Newcomer has a myspace page (naturally...)
http://www.myspace.com/ron_newcomer
_photographer
sorry i don't know html to link it

Don K. Show said...

Nice going people, you crashed The Ron's page, or at least sucked away his bandwidth for the month. :)

top three teams in the west...Detroit, Colorado, Minnesota, chicago might be a surprise this year as a close 4, but anyways look for those teams to dominate the west.
