Dave Lewis has been added to the L.A. Kings coaching staff.[LA Times]

Frankly, it is good to have him back.

The Top Five injuries in Penguin history [Taking One For the Team]

Ron Francis's foot injury in 1996 is really put into perspective.

Paul Kukla makes a list of players that bring him out of his seat.

A 99-cent double cheeseburger somehow did not make a list.

Best one-on-one offensive player - Pavel Datsyuk

Best assist man - Sidney Crosby

Power-play Specialist -- Ilya Kovalchuk ( can't argue )

If You Need One Save -- Kukla wants Marty Turco in net.

Best Guy You've Never Heard Of -- Igor Grigorenko
( Kukla is the definition of a homer. In his case, it's Detroit. )

The Best Home Crowd -- San Jose.
( Our vote goes to Ottawa. )

Serial Killer Blog

Jeffrey Dahmer was a douche. No question.

But the bigger douche was John Balcerzak:

John Balcerzak is a police officer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and president of the Milwaukee Police Association. In 1991, he was fired for having returned an injured victim to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Balcersak and his partner Joseph Gabrish discovered the victim, 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone, after he had managed to escape from Dahmer's apartment. Konerak was a Laotian who did not speak English. Dahmer found the boy with the police and convinced them that the boy was his 19-year-old lover. Two African-American women, Sandra Smith and Nicole Childress, were convinced that Sinthasomphone's life was in peril and tried to save the boy. However, Balcerzak and his partner chose to believe Dahmer and allowed him to keep Sinthasomphone. Dahmer later sexually abused, killed, and dismembered the boy.

Both officers later appealed their termination, won, and were reinstated with back pay. Balcerzak and Gabrish were named "officers of the year" by their local union, the Milwaukee Police Association, for fighting a "righteous" battle to regain their jobs.

Then in 2005, he was elected president of the Milwaukee Police Association.

Really?

I loathe the day that google fails to return a fresh new picture for you to use! Which by all accounts might be soon! :)

Any truth to the rumor that the Kings will only have white jerseys this year? I hear Lewis has that in his contract somwhere.

``Kukla's weak and definitely a huge homer. I think if you know hockey, you know who Igor Grigorenko is. Even if not for his play with Team Russia in World Juniors or World Championships then for his bad car accident.

My pick for best player you've never heard of: Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller that signed with Anaheim.

``The passing mention of JS Aubin was enough to send make my blood pressure spike. Good God he was atrocious.

tip of the hat for the tolkien reference! :)

aside from the obvious, one additional thing that has me looking forward to the start of the new season is no longer being subjected to that horribly depressing photo of sid, geno, and staal!!! i understand why it's there, but i for one am TOTALLY looking forward to this time next year seeing that section filled with pictures of the penguins on their respective days with the cup!!!

Hooks Orpik said...

Yeah, if you haven't heard of the Caps Nick Backstrom, you don't know what's going on.

For Christ's sake, the Pens almost picked him over Jordan Staal last year.

wilsmith said...

aye, ryan.

If you were there in 2006, you might remember me as the guy yelling at the police to get to back of the line at about 4am.

Canucks new jersey: gross.

Absolutely brutal. All they did was put the new logo on the old jerseys. Gross.

Regarding serial killer blog - I heard a radio interview with a guy named Fred Rosen. He recently put out a book on testimonial from people that survived serial killer encounters and attacks. Some were gruesome. The book sounds amazing.

I watched the Fedko pranks again today while on a conference call. Good Laffs.

Fedko pranks are a good time no matter what the occassion. I was in a shitty mood this morning and watched the "Barry Bonds" call 3 times and that seemed to do the trick for me.

People need to be a little more open-minded.

Aside from the giant "VANCOUVER", I like it. The green and blue is far superior to the maroon and blue or whatever garbage they just got rid of.

wilsmith said...

And we should take a page out of the book from sports fans abroad and show up in only the colors, toting anything with the team colors that you can wave. oh, and never, ever, under any circumstances shut up.
and why dont we have a song to sing before each game, like Ah Leah?

half the fun of watching european football is watching the crowd.

Loserchris thanks for that clip. Believe it or not I'm a huge Liverpool fan and I get chills everytime I see a clip like that.

great title on the entry guys

Stoosh said...

wilsmith,

I see stuff like that Liverpool clip and it just makes me jealous. The fan bases of many of our sports teams - particularly the US-based ones - pale in comparison to that, despite the fact that many of our own fanbases claim to be such knowledgable, great entities.

Look at the Steelers. Can you imagine the collective crowd at Heinz Field ever coming up with something like a song on their own? American sports fans have been broken down into zombies who gawk at the Jumbotron and have to be told when to cheer and what to cheer (the best Steelers fans ever come up with is "Here we go Steelers...here we go"). And too many of them use the game as an excuse to do nothing more than drink and get beligerent.

I see stuff like that Liverpool clip and I realize there is something that runs deeper with those fans than just about anything you find here. NFL fans are a joke compared to fanbases like that.

I think the closest we get are what you see in college sports. You may see it among certain pro sports teams (Yankees, Red Sox for example) and I think you see it among the Canadian-based NHL teams. You see it even more in Canada when it comes to their national teams (I wish US hockey fans gave 25% as much a damn about our team as Canada gives about theirs).

Like I said, compared to that, fans over here are pretty much just desensitized zombies.

Melvin you are not a Liverpool fan. You heard your savior Madden talk about the Reds and now you think you're cool. You're not.
