All We Have Is Now

So, let's take a trip down memory lane...

--- Dateline ---

May 3, 1991. 11:05 PM.
Scott Township
The Penguins drop the first two games of the Conference finals in Boston.

George Striker has to be talked out of his garage.

--- Dateline ---

May 19, 1991. 10:58 PM.
Station Square
The Penguins lose Game three of the Stanley Cup Finals; North Stars go up 2-1 in the series.

Steve Mezinski has to be talked off the Smithfield Street Bridge.

--- Dateline ---

April 25, 1992. 11:15 PM.
Mt. Washington
The Penguins get blown out 7-2 at home; fall behind the Capitals 3-1.

Lucy Wong has a 13-hour-long stand-off with police after refusing to remove herself from one of those hangover things on Mt. Washington.

--- Dateline ---

May 27, 1997. 1:09 AM.
Some Virginia Hotel
Marv Albert is arrested for forcible sodomy and assault.

What do all these people have in common?

Their situations were worse than ours...
And they got out of it.

Expect for Lucy.
She got hooked on angel dust and overdosed in Carrick in July '99.

Maybe it is the six-year layoff.

But is it time to hit the Pens panic button?
The answer is no.

We all need to start showing some guts.

People are talking about Gonchar and his play on Alfredsson's goal Sunday night.
Let it go.
We fondle Christensen's balls all year, expecting him to bury that wrister opportunity he had Sunday night.
He missed.

This isn't the NFL.
It isn't one and your done.

Rumor has it Ben Roethlisberger couldn't make it to the Pens game Sunday night because he was arrested.

Antwaan Randle El had to bail him out.

And now the "bash Evgeni Malkin" parade has kicked off?

We don't make it habit to give our real opinions, because we just run a blog, and people will believe what they want.

But this dude from SI went over the edge.

The only thing with the initials "N.H.L." that this guy is inside is his boyfiend.
Nick H. Lachey.

"Malkin has been invisible most of the time, which is no mean feat for a guy who is a legitimate 6-foot-4 and the presumptive rookie of the year"

Especially considering he has assisted on two Crosby goals. And has a decent 4 assists.
It's a tough series.

"The bad news: He took a pair of silly, soft, stick penalties in Game 3 -- a first-period trip and a hook in the second. The good news: His English clearly is getting better, and probably more colloquial, given the way he whined to the referees after the calls"

SI subscription = cancelled.

But all this pales in comparison to the idiots lurking on the Penguins message boards.

Malkin is soft, they say.
They are dissapointed in him.

If it wasn't for Mr. Malkin, this would be Offseasonblog.
Go to hell.

Suck it.

There also is a lot of fuss about the Pens fans booing the Canadian anthem.
All we can say is that they most likely aren't hockey fans.
Because that anthem is unreal.
But perhaps their mom was raped by a mountie.
At this point, we don't know.

Would you put it past this guy?

Click this pic.
That's what we're talking about.
Special thanks to Touchdown Tom Quinn for this picture.

Quick Glance around the NHL.

Buffalo jobs past the Isles

2 - 1 Sabres.

And one game in the West.

Sharks over Preds

5 bucks to whoever can photoshop Barry Trotz into this the best

Guts - Mike Costa
Marv Albert - Todd " Big game" Lewis
Murray - Chris Y

And one final thing.
Frito Will's (longtime friend of the blog) wife swears that Ryan Whitney will be Gary Roberts (looks-wise) in 2o years.

Go Pens

Wins and Losses – Sick, Playoff Pain

When we look into your eyes
We can see ya love the game
But Penguins when we cheer you
Don't you know we feel the same...yeah

Nothin' lasts forever
And we both know scores can change
And it's hard for us to handle
Havin’ cold, sick, playoff pain

We've been through this
Such a long, long time
Seems like just yesterday...oh yeah
Players always come
And players always go
And no one's really sure
Who'll be let go today
Traded away

If you could take the time to lay it on the line
We could rest our heads
Just knowin' that you were fine
All fine

So if you wanna love ‘em
Then Pens’ fans don't refrain
Or we'll just end up achin'
Havin’ cold, sick, playoff pain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Ooh, everybody needs some time
On their own
Ooh, don't you know you need some time
All alone

We know it's hard to keep an open heart
When every team is out to harm you
But if you could make a brand new start
Therrien would motivate you
Oh, oh, oh

[Guitar Solo]

Sometimes we need some time
On our own
Sometimes we need some time
All alone
Ooh, everybody needs some time
On their own
Ooh, don't you know you need some time
All alone

[Guitar Solo]

And when our tears subside
Only heartache will remain...oh yeah
We know that you can love ‘em
Even when they’re down a game

So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold, sick, playoff pain

[Guitar Solo]

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody (<-sing 4x)
You're not the only one
You're not the only one (<-sing 3x)

Derek A...Love the 2Pac pic!

Staff...Thanks for the memories/reminders...nice to know Lucy may be gone, but not forgotten...

Michael Farber >>>> "tool"..."jobber"..."a**hole'...Smizik"...

Tiff...Guns & Roses! Now I know the Pens will win tonight!

Malkin has played decent, No complaints from me.

The series is not over. They will even it up tonight.

Watched the Sabres/Isles game last night, and by no means do I like the Isles at all, but the refs in that game were clearly for the Sabres--very bad no-calls against Buffalo and ticky-tacky calls against Isles.
Reminded me of the Pens/Sens series. Ridiculous. The refs are horrid.

EmDubs said...

I saw that guy with the "Heatley's Ferrari for sale" sign at the game. I wanted to take a picture of it so bad, but forgot my cell phone at home. I'm glad someone got a picture of it.

Its funny that people are getting on Malkin. He might have taken some stupid penalties this series, but its sort've because he's the only one out there really trying (besides MAF) and he's probably getting frustrated.

Go Pens!

Refs Stink said...

Yea I also was watching the Isles-Sabres game and the refing is pure crap. The calls that went against the Islanders in the 3rd period were a joke. The 2nd Sabres goal, at least I did not see any conclusive evidence the puck was in the net. The Islanders are right in this series with the Sabres. Also, that arena is loud!

Big game tonight!

scott said...

Malkin has in fact been invisible most of the time. He's gotten some phantom assists, and one legitimate assist on Crosby's game 2 winner, but most of the time he's been out there tiptoeing around, constantly afraid of who's going to hit him next. Sure, that could change, but don't deny the truth of what's happened so far. Ray Emery has made more good plays than Malkin in this series.

Staff said...

Could not disagree more Scott.
But I respect your point

Lets not confuse "constantly afraid" with just getting shutdown by a really good defense. Malkin has played hockey all his life, I wouldn't say he is afraid of getting hit.

Emery is a clown.

Go Pens

Loser Chris said...

If someone could just trick Malkin into thinking this is the Olympics we'd be in business. Seriously though, he needs to be stronger on the puck for someone his size. On the plus side he is one of the few guys who seems to realize that we just need to get the puck to the net and wait for Emery to screw up.

Derek said...

Guts was such a great show, but I could never figure out what really went on during the crag thing. Did they basically just run up a zip zag path hitting the buttons, or was it more complicated than that?

Malkin hasn't been great, but he's made some nice passes. His penalties were questionable calls. Michael Farber an idiot. Why would you use "Just For Men" brush in gel on your stache and then let the rest of your beard turn stark white?

dying alive said...

Did that jobber from SI seriously blame Malkin for the loss the other night? I guess he didn't actually watch the game, just checked the box score. Jagoff.

I saw the Heatley's Ferrari sign, too. Good stuff. Normally I don't think a fatal car accident is anything to joke about, but this is the playoffs. Anything is fair game.

G.U.T.S. was good, but Fun House hosted by J.D. Roth was by far waaaay better.
And great post u guys, I don't agree with everything yinz said, but u gave a collective bitch slap to everyone, a calming-down if you will. I can't even think about tonight, it's going to be unreal. And fuck the excuses, that arena better be poppin' I-beams loose with cheering. That was a weak effort last game.

Tiff, Guns 'n fuckin' Roses...that's golden

Anonymous said...

I was the one who said whitney and roberts looked alike in 20 years.. i said i whenever the pens acquired roberts..

going to the game tonight... its goin to be intense

russell lucas said...

I look for Malkin to get his first goal of the series tonight-- in OT. The law of averages says we're due for an OT game. And the insta-publishing nature of the internets means that Farber can say he's sorry tomorrow.

Dwayne said...

I was ripping on Malkin about 100 times harder than Farber was after the game. I was there, and I saw his effort on every shift, and honestly, I've seen better.

Maybe that's the problem. He set the bar so high for himself that now I'm thinking "man, what the fuck? he's useless!", when in reality he's actually doing a moderately okay job. But that's his own fault for having such amazing moments during the year and then coming back down to earth. For shame.

The Heatley jokes were in full force in E17 Sunday night. They were also in full force the whole way back to the parking garage. Someone squealed tire when a light turned green, and immediately some dude shouted "Shit! Everybody, get off the road! Heatley's coming! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"

Good times.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for posting a pic of that Heatley sign. Those 3 guys were parading around the Igloo before the game, so we probably saw them at least 3 times. You would think the same joke would get less funny after you've seen it a few times, but thats not the case. Classic.

Also, was anyone else a little disapointed with the crowd on Sunday. Don't get me wrong...it was loud and all, but I was expecting better. Maybe it was just because my seats are tucked away under the overhang @ the back of C and I couldn't really see/experience the entire Arena.

Go Pens

Anyone else not in love with this idea - seems like hitting the panic button a little bit.

Ray Emery = slang for "sieve"

Has any Game 4 NOT been huge? Impossible...I can't wait!

Sarah said...

Props on the "Guts" picture - I loved that show!
Pens bandwagoners need to lay off Geno...it's starting to piss me off. It's not like he's become Derian Hatcher, one-of-the-most-worthless-human-beings-ever.

The ~D said...

Christensen hasn't played well thus far, but I don't like him being benched. Maybe Ekman had a rockin practice.

Jason said...

I agree, geno hasnt been playing that bad, and he's been improving every game so far. His comical attempt at attacking Philips atleast showed some passion, so you cant accuse him of not trying or having his head in the game.

I hope army lays someone out again just to give you guys a reason to put that 2pac pic back up. Tremendous.

dying alive said...

AdamG, the crowd was out of control through the entire first period, I thought. When the Pens forgot to come out of the locker room for the second period, there was a noticeable dropoff in crowd noise.

The place went ballistic for Crosby's goal. The guy knows how to get the crowd back into it.

Greg said...

Malkin - Crosby - Recchi
Roberts - Staal - Ouellet
Ekman - Talbot - Armstrong
Ruutu - Malone - Petrovicky
Orpik - Whitney
Eaton - Gonchar
Melichar - Scuderi

I have season tickets and thought it was loud/ louder than anytime this season with the lone exception of when the arena deal was announced by Mario. It seems to me that some people at the games just dont give a f---. A guy that sat behind me didnt know 3 things they were the following. 1)That the senators were from Ottawa 2)That the series was tied 1-1 3)That you win a series with 4 wins

That just goes to show u that he had no business being in the arena, i think i said that a call sucked and his 5 year old asked him what it meant and he said "that is a bad word we don't use it"

Lets Go Pens

Anonymous said...

is that your guess?

Greg said...

no it is on tsn.ca

homesprout said...

I need to learn how to use Photoshop lol

Oh one more thing.....

Go Pens!!

dying alive said...

Nice to see Scuds is playing, I was worried about him after that dirty hit from behind by Rainbow Sherbert.

Anonymous said...

is it just me or has army, talbot, roberts, sid, and maf carried us this series? Army has been skating his ass off each and every game

Sarah said...

Armie is laying it down, EVERY night..you can't ask anything more of him.
I'd like to see Talbot get a goal tonight.

Anonymous said...

I thought I was just being sort of homerish getting all pissed off about the unfair officiating in this series until I watched the NYI-Buffalo game last night, the refs obviously had their bets placed on Buffalo. Why else would there be that terrible tripping call at the end of the game? Lets hope they start calling a better game for the rest of the series.

Anonymous said...

So if Malkin plays well tonight and the gonch plays average (no walks to the super bowl for an IC Light during the game) ... Will all you non "bandwagon" pens fans admit defeat in that both have played sub par hockey thus far?

Stirring the pot a wee bit for a tuesday of monumental proportions.

Steve said...

Talbot plays like he smokes crack in between shifts.

And that tussle he got into the other day was awesome. He did that little bounce step and popped that mofo right in his face, then delivered some real good shots.

Give him some credit for being psychotic. him and Army

rachel said...

I'd have to also say Army, Talbot, Roberts, Crosby, and MAF have kept us in this series and always give the best effort. And the PK has been playing well.

Tiffany said...

Dying Alive,
Totally agree with you on the Heatley jokes (not normally something I'd feel comfortable with). But since he should be in jail, everyone should have the right to bash him. So thank you Touchdown Tom for sharing that pic & thank you to whoever made that sign....you rock!!!

OMG!! Wish I could've been there.....if for nothing else, just to hear the jokes. Must have been unreal hearin' some dude say that all of a sudden. Just readin' your comment about it had me doubled over. :-)

I love every player on the team, but putting Ekman in place of Christensen now??? It makes me feel a bit uneasy...but guess we'll all see how it goes tonight. Maybe Therrien thinks we need to shake things up.

P.S. <-- Can't take full credit for the song. "theNick" from the gamedaychat really helped me out. But thanks guys!! & Driving Miss Murray was hilarious!

This just in from Patrick Eaves:

At least we're not Atlanta.

Barrasso35 said...

Penguins fans. Those words should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interest. Perhaps it's fate that Thursday is April 19th and the Pens will once again be fighting for their playoff lives, not against the Capitals, the Rangers or the Devils, but against the Senators. They're fighing for their right to live, to exist and should they win the day, April 19th will no longer be known as a Thursday but as the day when all of Western Pennsylvania declared in one voice, "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight. We're going to live on! We're going to survive!" Thursday, we will celebrate another Penguins playoff victory.

rachel said...

Barrasso35, very well said.

In the words of Sidney Crosby,
"We don't give up."

7-0 Atlanta is a joke.

This is one of the greatest pics. Those eyes have death written all over them...

Mike said...

Hey guys, Isles fan here. Love the blog, keep your heads up. There is no reason to not think the Pens can get on a roll here, it's not over till the Sens win four games. Also be glad you are not Atlanta, they may be the worst team in the playoffs. What a joke....

Anonymous said...

Islesfan Mike, Thanks for the love. With the number of jokes regarding Nolan, Blake, etc., on this blog its nice to see someone who realizes its all in good fun. Or is it? Anyway, good luck against the Sabres, I'd love your Isles to pull off the upset if for no other reason than to shut up the Sabres fans that think their team is God's gift to the Universe.
