Miracle On 66 Mario Lemieux Place

Just another jobber Monday night....

Unitl a little before 11:00 Monday night, when FSN's Rob King bet his girlfriend's uterus that the Pens deal was done.

When Rob King tells you something is going to happen, It's going to happen.

It all came to fruition when Bob Pompeani took control of our television set at 11:02 to bring us the announcement.

Mario Lemieux - 690 goals. 3 saves.

It is over.
After eight long years.
Countless sleepless nights.
The Pens are here to stay.
Words will never do this moment justice.

Grab whatever you're drinking and raise it to the sky:

This is to Mario. A legacy of greatness forever etched in the Grant Street concrete.
To Danny O, Lucky Luke, and Easy Ed.
To all the jobbers everywhere.
We may not always agree. We may not all get along.
But tonight we stand together.
We stand united.

Fight and believe and they may leave.
Don't care and you won't be disappointed...at least for a while.
And watching in your living room, many years from now, you would be willing to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies(Kansas City) that they may try, but they'll never take... OUR Penguins!
Now excuse us, we have a hockey team to support for the rest of our lives.
Let's kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy.

The rest of this post is the most meaningless of this blog's history.

...Penguins are 7th in ESPN Power Rankings...

...New Penguin Billy Joel Kwiatkowski talks about being lower on the totem pole than Ted Nolan's wife...

...Speaking of which, Teddy says Chris Simon's suspension was too harsh...

...In the story of the little rookie that could, Colorado's Paul Stastny is on an 18-game point streak...

Malkin: 73 Points
Stastny: 66 Points

...Joe D sends us all the link to the Chicago Sun-Times apologizing for their ignorant look at the Penguins.
The commenters really owned that guy. So great.

Faber Drive is NHL.com's Band of the Month.
What's that dude on the right doing.

The NHL was slower tonight than TSN reporting the arena deal.

The only game of really any importance:
The Thrashers beat the Caps.

Pens - Sabres

Things are getting better...

So I've been totally depressed for the past few months trying to get over this breakup. Then today comes along...I get done with work early. I walk outside and its like fucking spring time. I come home and own my buddies @ NHL 07 for 360...and I mean OWN. Then we go to see 300 and it is spectacular. What a great day...but then as we leave the theater we get some great new via text message: THE PENS ARE STAYING!!!

Apparently I've died and gone to heaven. I am soooo glad I over-extended myself and bought those playoff tickets and put a deposit on season tix for next year!

Rendell is still a cocksucker.

How about a little quote from Mike Lange, "Its a hockey night in Pittsburgh!!!". Thank the Dear Lord!!!

Anonymous said...

Even tho Mike probably won't be saying it, I know I will be for the next 30+ years, "It's a hockey night in PITTSBURGH."

Mario, you've done it once again. You've saved the Penguins. Here's to you, the city of Pittsburgh owes you everything! But most of all, we will do what you want the fans in Pittsburgh and throughout PA and the entire Pens Nation to do...enjoy PITTSBURGH PENGUINS hockey!!! Count on us, we will not let you down.

I'd also like to pay a tribute to the Pensblog, and all the fellow fans out there who are also avid readers like myself. It's been awesome being able to collaborate and job around with true passionate fans here, and I will continue to do so because you guys are the best...I have a feeling if it weren't for the Pensblog, we wouldn't be celebrating right now (100,000+ hits on a grassroots blog site really can make noise!)

Yeah yeah it's been said, but in the words of the late Badger Bob Johnson...

"It's a great day for hockey."

End jobber comment.

TSN has finally joined in on the celebration!

It doesn't get much better than this.

"To take away the rest of his regular season would have been plenty enough," Nolan told newyorkislanders.com Monday. "But to say he can't be part of the team for the Stanley Cup playoffs does not seem fair."

hold the press.

Thankyou Pensblog and letsgopens.com for keeping me sane the last week.

Thankyou Lemieux, Burkle, Ravenstaal, Onorato, and even that rat bastard Rendell for doing what was best FOR US and maybe not themselves for once.

It feels good to able to concentrate on the Penguins winning and losing for once instead of constantly worrying about them dieing!!!

I just got in, and all I have alcoholic in the apt is White Russian mix but fuck it! I'm gonna make like "The Dude" and down one or two of those before I hit the sack.

This group truely has something special to champion for years to come, yourselves and THE PENS! Thanks for a great tremendous resource...

Last but not least, Rico Fatastic's photoshop of "Arenamen" HAS to be the funniest thing i have seen in about 5 years, cheers for that one mate! Malkin as Brick, GENIUS!!!!

Ahhhhhhh!!!!! I can’t believe an arena deal was announced; this is so amazing!! Somewhere in the back of our minds, we knew Mario would come through for the Penguins AND the fans.....and he did. Hats off to you Mario--for making sure that the Penguins stay where they belong, in Pittsburgh. OMG, I’m so excited!!! “-“

To Karri, Ellen, and Rachel: Sorry I didn’t get this to you sooner, but thank YOU for saying you liked the song. I’ve said it before, but if it weren’t for people like you…..I wouldn’t be doing it. I have a blast and as long as you guys like it, I’ll keep it up. ;-)

Steeltown Mike, I am SO sorry about the name miscommunication. I feel like such a jobber--in every sense of the word. In my defense, and if it makes YOU feel any better, I was awake for about 41 hours that day I posted the comment. (12:50 pm on Sat. – 6:00 am on Mon.) So, if I would’ve been a bit more conscious..... ;-D By the way, I totally agree with Karri. You definitely underestimate yourself because I thought you were terrific!!

Rico Fatastic, funny Independence Day reference--“TODAY, WE CELEBRATE, OUR ARENA DAY!!!” Haha...

Staff, I always love your posts, but I especially liked the “Mario Toast” in this one. That was brilliant!!

To the fellow photo-shoppers, you are ALL so awesome!!!

Oh, and since I’m temporarily here in Butler, I’ve been hangin’ out with my friends. I talked about how ticked I was at one of them before......well, some good news on that. I’ve converted her!!!! She feels like crap for not caring if the Pens moved before, and she’s so excited (like me and the rest of the fans), that they got their new arena. ;) Yay!!!!!!!!

Back to the Pens’ new arena deal and the songs......here’s another song dedicated to all of the Pens’ fans and a song directed towards Ed Rendell. (Once again, ‘I’ refers to all of us.....’I’ just fits better.) Btw, my friend gave me the idea for the name of the song. It’s based on “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and I hope you all enjoy it. ~_~ Here’s the YouTube video:

Glorious Gainers - I Will Survive

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinkin’ I could never live
Without Pens by my side
But then I spent so many nights
Thinkin’ how Ed did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to get along

And so you're back from Lemieux Place
I just walked in to find you here
With that smug look upon your face
I should have hit you with Laraque
He should have broken both your knees
If I'd had known for just one second
You'd be back to bother me

Go on now go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried
To hurt me with goodbyes?
You think I'd crumble?
You think I'd lay down and die?

Oh no, not I
I will survive
Oh, as long as I have Pens to love
I know I'll stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
And I’ve got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive...hey, hey

It took all the strength I had
Not to fall apart
Just trying hard to mend
The pieces of my broken heart
And I spent oh, so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high
And you see me, somebody new
I'm not that chained up little Pens’ fan
Won’t say “no” to you
And so you felt like dropping in
And just expect me to agree
But now I'm saving all my lovin'
For Lemieux who's lovin' me

Go on now go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried
To break me with goodbyes?
You think I'd crumble?
You think I'd lay down and die?

Oh no, not I
I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love
I know I'll stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
And I’ve got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive.....oh...

Go on now go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried
To break me with goodbyes?
You think I'd crumble?
You think I'd lay down and die?

Oh no, not I
I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love
I know I'll stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
And I’ve got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive
I will survive

I got woken up at 5.30AM here to text messages from all my friends back home telling me we closed the deal.

Granted I was too asleep to actually pay attention to what any of them said... :x

Fucking awesome. I think I'm going to go celebrate tonight :D

Gavin said...

I'm currently staring out my office window toward the direction of the venerable Igloo and starting to dream about what the new building might look like. I guess it really doesn't matter because it will house Sid, Geno and the Penguins for the foreseeable future. It truly is a great day for hockey!

Loser Chris said...

Of course this goes down the one night I'm cut off from the internet. Congrats everyone! Now let's focus on the Cup!!!!

Elizabeth said...

I can't believe this is happening. Mario is a saint. Won't it be fun to just focus on the games and the playoffs now? Awesome.

go pens.

Loser Chris said...

"I am very glad they're staying," said Joe Corsi, 21, of Coraopolis. "I used to watch them when I was a kid, and they're finally starting to get good again."

Don't get hurt climbing onto the bandwagon Joe. Some of us never got off.

i think that they should really consider naming the new stadium mario lemieux arena. I think he deserves it.

The Pensblog definately needs to run a photoshop exhibition of what the new arena will look like.

I was just thinking the same thing! New Arena Photoshop EXPO!!! (How good does it feel to say that?)

In case you missed it, it's official...

If the state would ask me, I could build the arena myself in a week, tops. I could have it done in a day, but you know, bum knee and all....

GREAT NEWS!! I woke up late this morning and heard the news.

I wish I lived in Pittsburgh and could be at the game tonight. The place will be insane. Fortunately I will see in on tv.

I have a feeling the team will come out firing early. The Sabres are going to get rocked!!

To folks in Kansas City no need to rush to complete that new arena. Wait the Rochester Amerks are talking about moving, do you want the phone number?

Steve in Denver said...

Cheers Pittsburgh! It feels almost as good as when they won the Cups. Naturally the game tonight is NOT on the season ticket....huge injustice.

After I chug post work celebratory beers, can someone send me the # for the chick in red spandex (KC Mascot) so I can reeally rock out on a booty call? Not.

"Let's kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy."

Wow, how about I immediately recognized that as an Independence Day quote. My parents probably shouldn't have raised me on action films.

Anyhow, it's so awesome that we can now focus completely on hockey...keep the great posts coming, guys! :-)

Maryanne said...

Do any of you go on letsgopens.com? My friend told me about it and I just though everyone there was too pessimistic. Thanks in advance.

Mike M said...

Here's a question that I hope someone can help me with, and I've been on here for a few months and have never seen a mention of it.

I want the Penguins theme song. Either the original from the 1980s or the new version, which is slightly slower and uses a keyboard instead of real instruments.

When I search for Penguins Theme on any internet search program I get something that I think the Chicago Bulls used to use as entrance music (either them or PDiddy) or something that sounds like a Godsmack song and should end in NAVY! ACCELERATE YOUR LIFE!

Does ANYONE have this song, know what the song is called (is there an artist) or have any idea how it could be purchased. I'd buy it off the Pens website if they'd sell it.

Doug said...

I agree about the themes. I would love to get my hands on those.

That being said, today is the greatest day of my life. I think the feeling I have when I actually hear it tonight will be better than when the Steelers won the Super Bowl.

I see nothing wrong with having a statue of 66 in front of the new arena.

Classic Theme Song (hidden in the ringtone section of the ringtone section of the Pittsburgh Penguins webpage): http://pittsburghpenguins.mstore.xingtone.com/index.php?action=preview&id=5

New Theme Song:

If you guys go to the ringtone page ( http://www.pittsburghpenguins.com/multimedia/ringtones.php ), you can right mouse click on the page, select "View Source", then scroll through the page until you see the HTML around the ringtone of your choice. Then, after that, simply copy paste the URL inside the onclick="play_mp3_url('$$$MP3_ADDRESS_HERE$$$')" function and paste it into another browser window and you got it.

Unfortunately, it's about 10 seconds long :(

I agree with everyone's comments about sending a thank you out to Mario, however, ThePensblog staff has also played a role. They have kept us going with hope that a deal would be signed.
The crazy humor on this site and the great recaps of the games keeps us fans excited and we have voiced this excitement to the politicians and media. I want to thank all of the pens fans everywhere…you’ve been heard…loud and clear!

Thanks Tiff for the song….hmmmm…Tiffany “Sandler”…haha…

Jon…"I'm Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves...hahahaha…

Steve said...

The Pens are staying!!! Oh man this is great... That aweful fealing in my stomach has finally gone away. Now I raise my glass to the heavens and thank the Lord above. (After Mario)

I would literally kiss Mario's ass. I don't care what anyone says. How many times is this guy gonna put himself and his money on the line for this city?

I think we should petition for a massive statue of him outside the new arena!!!

Oh, and

Louis Lipps is my homeboy said...

I think a statue of 66 is definitely in order.

The Bucs have Clemente, Stargell, and Wagner, all great players.

The Steelers have one of Art Rooney, a great owner.

So since Mario is both of those, we need one of his outside the new Igloo!!!

Anonymous said...

enjoy! :)

I think the noise at the Igloo might have blown out the Versus crowd mic's when Mario came out before the game.
