Ilya Kovalchuk...

Pens play Kovalchuk and the Thrashers on Saturday night in Atlanta.
I have no idea why, but I have a feeling the Pens will win.

To refresh some people's memories:

This whole Kovalchuk thing started last year when, with the Thrashers already up 4-0, Crosby slashed Kovalchuk and got a penalty for it.
On the ensuing powerplay, this happened:

With the brass of a riverboat gambler, Kovalchuk had this to say about Crosby:

"He takes those stupid penalties all the time. He's an 18 year old kid, and he can't play like this. He starts yapping about his teammates in the newspapers ... I don't know, he should play really hard on the ice and keep it at that."
Sidney Crosby...what's your always media-friendly response?

I'm not a fighter. I'm not going to go out there and drop the gloves with him. He's a skilled guy, and he's a great player. I respect him as a player, but that's as far as I'll go."
...........................................

Hopefully, The Moose is starting in goal for Atlanta Saturday night. Hedberg didn't leave here on bad terms and is still one of my favorite former Penguins (up there with the likes of Ian Moran, Andrew Ference, and Marty Straka).

And, finally, we have heard from numerous sources that the Pens are upgrading their blue-line corps.

How about a three-way deal where Oregon gives us cattle, cash, and a small amount of provisions and we give Whitney and maybe Recchi to that "upspecified team" who in return will give the defenseman you mentioned to Team Oregon.

Team Oregon will then continue on their travel down the trail with the unknown defensemen who will singlehandedly pull them to the other side of the river.

haha, thats great with whitney. and that was very unsportsman of kovalchuk. i think in tomorrow's game, even if kovy is a bitch towards sid at all, he will be the better player and let it go. i noticed this year he's been more of a mature player

Yeah Sid doesn't talk back to the refs this year like he did last year and really has matured.

I'm looking forward to this game, first match vs Atlanta this season. Hossa looks like he's fitting in in Atlanta and I like seeing Kovalchuck's ungodly slapshot; except when it's aimed at Fleury.

And about the 'Kovalchuck point', it was pretty unsportsmanlike especially since they were running away with the game. Kovalchuck is a great player and all, but I think he did it because he felt threatened by Crosby overshadowing him as a previous #1 pick.

I have a feeling you threw Marty Straka in there for me. That is more than OK.

I'm not gay, but I would marry Marty if given the opportunity.

Kovalchuck's point at Sidney after the goal was a little irritating, and although I normally like Ilya, he needs to keep his finger to himself. He made his point, and Sidney has been much better this year about keeping his temper in control. They're both professionals, it should be an interesting game.

Screw signs, we'll have the student section scream and chant the entire time

How about a sign for the Craps game that says "Remember when Petr Nedved wasn't washed up?"

Like there were any Caps fans even at that game.
