I probably wouldn't have slept tonight if the Pens didn't pull this one out. What a relief. Excellent game to watch as the Road Warriors(TM) ran their record to 2-0 away from Mellon Arena.

In the first period, the Pens were peeing all over the Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Marking their territory by completely dominating the play for the entire twenty minutes. We're gonna give a call to Webster's Dictionary and move to make the word "Ouellet" a verb...meaning to score a jobber goal. That's all he does, and we aren't complaining. A powerplay goal for Michel Ouellet was all the scoring in the first period.

Ouellet drives a truck for Waste Management in the off-season.
...because he picks..up...the..trash...I got nothin.

The second period was the Nils Ekman Show. He finally got on the board in a Pens uniform with a powerplay goal five minutes in on a Letang-esque wrister. Alexei Yashin scored with about five minutes left to make it 2-1. Then Ekman had to serve a too-many-men penalty that the Islanders capitalized on. Then, Ekman decided to return to the box, this time on his own valition. Jason Blake, an ass, scored and all of a sudden, the Islanders were up 3-2. That ended the second...and possibly my life.

The third period rolled around, and I just felt it was a matter of time. Then, finally, it happened. Crosby working in deep behind the net, kicks it out to Malkin who banks it through Mike Dunham's pads and into the net. Pensblog Nation erupted. What a huge goal...that was only to be up-staged later in overtime.

In overtime, the Pens were given a powerplay. A 4-on-3 powerplay consisting of Malkin, Crosby, Recchi and Gonchar. It brought back memories of Lemieux, Jagr, Francis, Murphy. That quartet didn't capitalize, but later in the same powerplay, Gonchar remained on the ice and one-timed a shot that got behind Dunham and that was it...sending all 523 people in attendance home to watch the Mets in Game 7 of the NLCS.

Stats
  • Crosby: 3 A, 7 shots (No goals? Overrated)
  • Evgeni "At Least I Can Score Goals" Malkin: 1 G, 1 A
  • Gonchar: 1 G, 1 A
  • Fleury: 33 saves
  • SHOTS: NYI (36) PENS (37)
  • Powerplay: NYI (2 for 7) PENS (3 for 8)
Miscellaneous
  • Crosby was a mad man tonight. Finally, he looks like 05-06 Crosby.
  • You have Malkin, Crosby, Gonchar...you don't have to repeatedly dump and chase when you're on the powerplay.
  • Another excellent defensive performance for the Pens and Fleury.
  • We're gettin tired of praising Eaton and Moore
  • How bout when Malkin was getting shoved in OT...he can't trash talk so he just does a gangster nod.
  • Speaking of Malkin, how awesome is it to see him pumped after scoring that tying goal? I'm really glad he's not one of those foreign players who shows no emotion the entire game.
  • Was it just me, or did the broadcast tonight look like it was from the late 80's?
Things We Learned Tonight
  • FSN camera crew needs to get their act together. They cut to "action shots" at the worst time possible.
  • FSN gave up on the Sidney microphone after it fell off early in the second period.
  • Steigerwald can't distinguish players to save his life. Thank God we have Bob Errey in the booth to assure us that we aren't insane.
Islanders don't have fans; couldn't find an Islanders blog.

NEXT GAME
Saturday 10.21.06
vs. Columbus Blue Jackets - 7:30

I had to watch the Islanders feed on center ice. The Isles announcers were of the opinion that when Hunter slugged Crosby in the face, Sid was "acting" when his head snapped back. I would pay $50 to give those ass clowns the same opportunity to show off their thespian chops. To sum up, fuck the Isles. Also, a special "fuck you" to Ted Nolan for failing to recognize the fact that Crosby is awesome and his team is full of no talent fucks. We can say "fuck" here, right?

Yea, we don't care about the language. We just keep the big one off the blog posts.

So, I take it you saw the Nolan quote in the AP story about Crosby taking dives???

That's just Long Island for you.

steigy was better as a radio announcer when you couldn't tell if he was talking about the right players or not

Just to prove that I can be as petty as Ted Nolan, let me just say that Dunham's half-assed attempt to avoid repainting his Thrashers mask is a fitting analogy for the whole Isles organization (except the mask probably wouldn't had out 15 year deals).

Yea, that mask looked like he picked it up at Dick's on the way to the game and just slapped some bumper stickers on it.
